The American Petroleum Institute (API) is a trade association that represents the oil and gas industry. It establishes standards for engine oils through its Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System program. This voluntary program defines performance requirements for engine oils and licenses the use of API certification marks for oils that meet these standards. The API works with vehicle manufacturers and technical societies to establish new standards that improve engine oil performance over time as engines and emissions standards evolve.

– Compatibility with biodiesel blends
