This document provides an overview of the Kiowa Apache and Shoshone tribes, including their origins, migration histories, kinship structures, political/religious structures, and issues with sovereignty. The Kiowa Apache originated from a creation story of emerging from a hollow log. They migrated across North America and practice bilateral kinship descent. Their political structure separated people by social caste and religion involved sun dances. They lost land and sovereignty through broken treaties. The Shoshone also have a creation story and migrated across North America as desert dwellers. They have similar kinship and religious structures as the Kiowa Apache, including shamans. Their land was also impacted by treaties, though one initially recognized their territory. Both tribes
