Hadrian s Campaign Essay
Hadrian was born in Rome on Jan. 2, 76. The event of him becoming the new emperor of
Rome raised quite a bit of suspicion. It is said that his uncle, the previous ruler, adopted Hadrian
while on his death bed. There is some suspicion about this because all the other potential heirs for
the position were all mysteriously killed leaving Hadrian to take the throne. After his uncle died,
Hadrian took over as the new emperor of Rome.
During the time Hadrian took his place as a royal, Rome was involved in the Parthian
War. This war was between many parties fighting for Parthian. Hadrian, however, decided to take
his army out of the war and back out completely. During the war, many people were killed.

Hadrian focused so much on the defensive side of things, that he solders training was becoming
unnecessary, and the efficiency of the armies started to decline. One of Hadrian s famous creations
was the Hadrian Wall. This was the defense barrier he built on the border between England and
Scotland.
Another significant event that took place during Hadrian s reign was a religious outbreak.
During his rule, Hadrian decided to restore Jerusalem. Through the process of restoring this lad
he built a temple to Jupiter. Jupiter, also known as Zeus, is the Roman god of the sky. Now this
would have been fine, but Hadrian chose to build this temple exactly where the Jewish temple
once stood. This is the reason for the Jewish outbreak. The Jewish outbreak lasted for three and a
half years with more than half a million people dead.
Overall Hadrian did not have much class when running the Roman empire. He started off rough
with a sketchy coronation. Then, once he took control chose to pull back his military forces
completely which seems a little coward like. Finally, the fact that he built a temple

Montgomery Eating Out
It has been a busy week and you are ready to relax, to have great conversation, and an incredible
meal. There are so many fabulous restaurants in Montgomery, Alabama to choose from, that making
a choice is difficult. The first question you might ask yourself is What am I looking for in a
restaurant in Montgomery, AL ?
Baseball doesn t stand alone when it comes to being a great American pastime... eating is right up
there near the top of the list too. Almost everybody, young, old, and in between, enjoys eating out...
and it is not always just about the food.
Restaurants in Montgomery AL offer a variety of cuisine and each caters to an array of clientele
that is all their own. Dining out can be a very personal experience, one that fulfills a certain

What type of ambiance appeals to you? Cleanliness, comfort, and decor all say a lot. The
unspoken feeling you experience when you enter the door can be a hands down win or a deal
breaker. There is a lot to be said about first impressions.
Details are part of the package. Is the seating comfortable? Being uncomfortable will not give you
the desire to linger or return. Is the decor what you were expecting, elegant, ethnic, exotic, or
appropriate for the theme of the restaurant? Is the lighting too much or not enough? What about the
temperature, too hot or too cold? Each of the above does affect your dining experience in a
positive or negative way.
Upon entering a restaurant in Montgomery, AL you want it to be clean. Simpler than that... you
expect it to be clean. Are the tables and seats wiped and set before you are seated? Are the floors
swept or vacuumed? Do the servers look tidy and professional? I hope the smells from the kitchen
fill the air with culinary delight and not odors of stale or rotten

To some degree like universal telephone numbers, the domain name system serves to give each
Internet server a paramount and simple to spell address. At the same time, the domain names keep
the truly technical IP address undetectable for most viewers..
Example: about.com, japantimes.co.jp, spain.info
How are they spelled?
1)Domain names are sorted out right to left, with general descriptors to one side(right), and
particular descriptors to other side(left).
2)It is similar to family surnames to one side, particular individual names to one side. These
descriptors are called domains .
3)The top level domains (TLD, or parent domain) is to the most distant right of an domain name.
Mid level domains (youngsters and grandchildren) are in the middle. The machine name, regularly

4)Levels of domains are isolated by periods ( dots ).

Kmart, Sears and ESL: How a Hedge Fund Became one of the World s Largest Retailers
1. Describe recent trends in the hedge fund and private equity industry and the growing overlap
between the two.
A: Hedge funds, historically, were more interested in the buying and short selling of defaulted or
near default bonds within a few weeks or months. This strategy was more of a short term, exit
focused strategy. Now, however, some hedge funds are becoming more interested in the
restructuring and long term controlling of attractive assets. Hedge funds stakes in these companies
are then transformed into equity from the arising new entity. Private equity is split up into Venture

A: Kmart was, in the late 1970s, much larger than the famous superstore giant called Wal mart
with sales 20x that of Wal mart s and roughly 850 more stores nationwide. However, Kmart s
sales stayed consistently stagnant, while Wal mart became the giant it is now. A poor supply
chain, unfriendly store layout, among other things, created a huge disadvantage versus other big
box retailers. In 2001, Kmart made a tragic decision to cut costs close to Wal mart s famous
everyday low price , but by doing so, took on huge losses and sold items well below cost. This
resulted in a lack of liquidity and the ending result of filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Hedge funds started studying the value of Kmart s distressed assets, but none had the capital nor
the confidence to amass a controlling stake in the defaulted bonds. The bonds wouldn t be sold at
par value, but they would be sold for either cash through the sale of assets or bondholders would
receive equity in the new company emerging from bankruptcy. Bankruptcy was considered an
opportunistic time to acquire businesses that had strong synergies with existing, healthy companies
of the same industry. However, when one sector is struggling to stay afloat, other companies aren t
usually able or willing to commit the cash to acquiring the failed company and thus financial buyers
step in.

The Authoritarian Personality By Erich Fromm
In his essay, The Authoritarian Personality, Erich Fromm elucidates the two types of authoritarian
personalities: the passive authoritarian (masochistic, submissive), and the active authoritarian
(sadistic, dominant). In contrast to the authoritarian personality which is marked by one s inability
to rely upon oneself Fromm posits that the character of the independent individual is marked by
two skills: love and reason. According to Fromm, love allows the individual to maintain autonomy
whilst connecting to the world, and reason allows the individual to delve beneath the surface to
determine how things operate. Thus, the individual fueled by reason and love can participate in
rational authority a relationship (such as that between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We became employees and consumers; we came to understand that we are responsible not only for
our own welfare, but for the welfare of our fellow laborers. With individuality comes not only
conscience and accountability, but perplexity, estrangement, thunderstruckness in short, the deep
aloneness of which Fromm writes. To participate in society, one must often be complicit.
Responding to authority with trust rather than doubt provides the most convenient means by
which to alleviate one s deep sense of aloneness. To question everything, after all, is to put
oneself in a state of perpetual limbo. Prolonged uncertainty wreaks inner havoc. Passivity (with
its homeostatic rewards) often wins out. While passivity and domination is to be found
everywhere in a capitalistic society, I often look to art to examine the mechanisms by which
authority takes hold, and the ways that we struggle against it. Film, of course, is just one of many
media we use to explore our own natures, particularly in relation to authority our strengths, our
shortcomings but it is one of the most powerful. It can disseminate a point of view that strikes at
all senses. (As Jeanette Winterson writes: If art, all art, is concerned with truth, then a society in
denial will not find much use for it... ). The 2012 film Compliance, for instance, dramatizes a

A Note On Uniform Resource Locator
A URL (Uniform Resource Locator, previously Universal Resource Locator) is the unique address
for a file that is accessible on the Internet. Such a file might be any Web (HTML) page, an image

Shift Of Emphasis From Racism
Shift of Emphasis From Classism to Racism
Disasters often present to a society the opportunity for self examination by stripping away the
facade and revealing the underlying problems and inequities that were overlooked and oppressed by
the established social order. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, not only did it bring about
complete destruction to the physical landscape, but it also brought to light the social inequalities
and vulnerabilities that were present and deeply rooted in the community, which became a social
disaster. Soon in the aftermath, many attempted to define and categorize Hurricane Katrina as either
a class disaster or a race disaster. The fact that the wealthy and well off families who could afford
to reside in areas safe from the floods and those who could evacuate in time to escape the
Hurricane presented the idea that Katrina was a class based disaster . On the other hand, the fact
that the poor that remained behind and suffered the full blow of Hurricane Katrina were
predominantly black Americans contributed greatly to the debate of race based disaster. However,
when analyzing the timeline of the disaster, it appears that during the pre hurricane period, the most
prevalent issue was classism, where the poor and desolate were unable to escape the forecasted
disaster. During the period of disorganization following the hurricane, the most prevalent issue was
racism, where the discrimination between poor white Americans and poor black

Madagascar, Africa, By Madagascar
For my county I chose Madagascar, Africa. Madagascar is one of the poorest countries in the
world. In 2003 an index was created by the United Nations Development Program that measures
successes in the categories of real income, life expectancy, and education. With that Madagascar
was ranked 149 out of 175 counties. A lot of this can be due to kleptocratic rule, religion, economic
colonialism, and lack of infrastructure.
Madagascar is still very much a developing country with the average Malagasy (term for a
resident in Madagascar) making only one US dollar per day. Even though Madagascar achieved
full independence in 1960 it is still ran today as if it were a colony. While under kleptocratic rule,
the dictator Didier Ratsiraka stole millions of dollars. Which in turn led to a decline in foreign
investors, it discouraged private sector development, and discredited the governments
trustworthiness. This country is based on natural resource extraction and economies like this or
much more prone to kleptocracy. When the president Marc Ravalomananacame to in 2002 he
pushed for economic reform and tried to bring foreign investors back to the country while also
keeping natural resource extraction an important role in building the economy. These efforts
received much praise from foreign donors but towards the end of his presidency he was
confronted by Adry Rajoelina who stated he was likely to disturb peace and security .
Ravalomanana was then forced to resign due to

Federal Government s Difficulty in Adopting a Budget
Over the past few years the federal government has experienced considerable difficulty in
adopting a budget. Instead of agreeing to a budget that allows for the orderly operation of the
government s various agencies and determines the nation s annual spending and revenue
priorities, legislative and executive branches have been embroiled in acrimonious debate that
has largely broken down along political lines. The presence budgetary process was originally
created in 1974 (Keith, 1997) and there have been a number of abuses and problems over the
years since in the use of the process but since the early 2000s the process has largely failed to
serve the nation s needs. With increasing difficulty, Congress has, since that time, been unable to
smoothly adopt a budget with most budgets since that time being delayed until well into the fiscal
year and, most recently, a complete failure to adopt a budget. In the forty plus years since the
present budgetary process was created, a variety of problems have developed which have hampered
the operation of the government (Pew Commission, 2010). First among these problems is the fact
that the present system does not require the executive and legislative branches to begin negotiating
their potential differences over the budget until late in the budgetary process. By the time that the
two branches are expected to begin discussing their differences the budgetary process has been
proceeding for months and the various agencies dependent on the

This is considered selfish, considering it can cause problems for others. In his book Into the Wild

sentimental relationships and left a vast amount of them. Not only did he leave all of those
people, but he left his family as well. Chris also threw away things that anyone would be glad to

The Filipino Culture And Hypertension In The Philippine...
Hypertension is a disease that affects many people of different cultures. However, there are cultures
that have higher risks than others, such as Filipinos. The purpose of this paper is to briefly describe
the Filipino culture and their correlation with hypertension. It will discuss in further details the
need to integrate a plan for improvement as well as nursing interventions. Along with interventions,
this paper will include how the interventions will be evaluated and a way to implement a teaching
lesson to disseminate information regarding hypertension and its effect on Filipinos.

One theory that contributed to hypertension amongst this culture group is stressors, especially
when it came to acculturation, which is an adaptation of a new environment in every aspect that
includes social, cultural, psychological and even political changes (Ursua et al., 2013). Another
contribution to hypertension within this culture is lack of knowledge, specifically when it comes to
diet (Serafica Angosta, 2016). Many recipes in the Filipino culture contain high sodium. Therefore,
in addition to consuming Filipino dishes, American diet, when not taken into consideration, can
exacerbate the high consumption of sodium and saturated fat which leads to hypertension as well.
A nursing intervention to help improve this health need within the Filipino American population is
helping identify stressors and ways to reduce them. As Ursua et al. found that stress is a factor of
hypertension, especially amongst Filipino Americans and their experience with migrating to the
United States to provide for their family back in the Philippines (2014). A nurse can help identify
with the patient the stressors and discover a realistic plan or coping mechanism to overcome them.
Another intervention is patient education such as teaching what is considered hypertension, how to

The Continuation Phase Of The Maintenance Phase
Second is the continuation phase which lasts four to nine months. During the continuation phase,
planning focuses on maintaining adherence to the medication regimen and prevention of relapse
(Halter, 2014. p. 235). Interventions vary depending on the patient s coping skills, cognitive
function, availability of support systems, and financial status. Psychoeducational teaching must
be done for the patient as well as the family. If needed, referrals to community programs or
groups may be done. Lastly is the maintenance phase which focuses on avoiding relapses and
diminishing the severity of episodes that may occur in the future. Everything that has been done in
the first two stages will play a role in the maintenance phase. Another important intervention is
being able to identify triggers. Recollecting data can be done by the patient or by anyone close to
the patient such as family, friends, significant other, etc. Daily mood charting can also help
identify triggers. The following website http:://moodtracker.com has a chart that can keep track of
warning signs and triggers. Charts can include being able to track medication compliance, mood,
changes in sleep, and daily activities. Being aware of triggers can allow early intervention which
can minimize the severity of the manic or depressive episodes. Evidence based Research Papers A

TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS Technological innovations can have an acute impact on
business cycles. Indeed, technological breakthroughs in communication, transportation,
manufacturing, and other operational areas can have a ripple effect throughout an industry or an

production of an existing product using a new process. The video imaging and personal computer
industries, for instance, have undergone immense technological innovations in recent years, and the
latter industry in particular has had a pronounced impact on the business operations of countless
organizations. However, technological innovations and consequent increases in investment take
place at irregular intervals. Fluctuating investments, due to variations in the pace of technological
innovations, lead to business fluctuations in the economy.
There are many reasons why the pace of technological innovations varies. Major innovations do not

Health Care Elixir Summary
Within the article, America s Health Care Elixir, the author discusses all the various ways
Medicare and Medicaid have evolved and positively changed health care over the years
(Leonard, 2015). Medicare and Medicaid were signed into law in 1965, and since then they both
have created better care and allowed low income individuals and aging adults to receive needed
medical care. The number of individuals a part of Medicaid has increased from 19 million to 56
million over the years. In addition, the use of Medicaid has increased by providing health care to
70 million low income individuals (Leonard, 2015). The use of these two programs has allowed
the life expectancy of our population to increase by 5 years, signaling that the care provided is
effective (Leonard, 2015). Further, these two programs have removed racial segregation from
hospitals and various health facilities, by allowing a greater amount of individuals to... Show more

In addition, Medicare is allowing the trend of home health agencies and technology to take over
the need of nursing homes. Medicare only covers short term stays in nursing homes, and they
are pushing for older adults to age in place and stay within their homes (Leonard, 2015). This
alternative allows for seniors to receive medical care, as well as social services in the comfort of
their own home. On another note, Medicaid and Medicare have accounted for more health care
spending. As baby boomers age, health care spending will continue to excel. Policymakers have
been working to find solutions to this issue, while still delivering high quality care. Baby boomers
have smaller families or no children, which means they will need care from an outside source.
Currently, the Affordable Care Act is finding solutions to improve their quality and lower their
costs. In doing so, they have created the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (Leonard,

Changing The Importance Of The Destination In Homer s Odyssey
It s 6 in the morning every time we leave for Billings. Even though it s just a two hour drive, I
hate the part of waking up so early. Now comes the checking of the luggage; dog food, pillows,
snacks, in the car activities. One trip, however changed everything. I moved back to sheridan when
my grandpa got sick, and the two hour drive seemed like an eternity leaving everything I loved in
Billings. That s when the journey mattered more than the destination, when the journey changes the
importance of the destination.
One way to look at how the important the journey is in comparison to the importance of the
destination, is through the Odyssey. The whole epic is about the journey and how it changes the
importance of the destination to Odysseus. He was gone for twenty years and all that time he was
dealing with gods, monsters, the ocean, even his own men. While in the process of all ... Show more

Graffiti Is Bad
Graffiti: A force for evil
Graffiti refers to pictures or words inscribed on public property. It has been around for thousands
of years found in caves to modern buildings. However, several people argue whether modern
graffiti is a force representing good or evil. Graffiti is a negative method of portraying art due to
the fact that it negatively affects people within a community and the community itself, it consumes
a lot of a cities economy, and it is not necessary for it to be produced on public property.
Teenagers and young adults abuse graffiti which negatively impacts a community and the people
living within it, and here is how. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, young
adults...damage property for reasons of boredom, anger or revenge. Others vandalize to show
defiance toward rules, laws and authority or to draw attention to a cause . (6) In other words,
teenagers are wrongly influenced by graffiti and become rebellious towards the law and high
authorities. In addition, graffiti ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is not necessary for people to deface public property. There are alternative resources
such as canvases in which people may produce their art. According to Noel Sanchez, Artists tag
both public and private property, which becomes costly for taxpayers and business and property
owners (Graffiti as Vandalism). As seen here, paint is being sprayed on public and private property
which negatively affects the taxpayers. In addition, not even art institutions such as the Museum of
Contemporary Art in Los Angeles or the Museum of the City of New York find graffiti attractive
on their property and prohibit their premises to be vandalized (Graffiti is Always Vandalism). This
proves that even art museums would not consider graffiti attractive if their own property was
covered in it, therefore suggesting that graffiti ruins

Medications as Associated with ADHD When children are little and not feeling well, all it took
for them to give that partially energetic smile was for either mommy or daddy to kiss where they

can be as simple as a cold to a lifelong ailment like ADHD, the usage of medication can help
whether it is prescribed or over the counter. From the simplicity of an aspirin a day to help

When Looking At A Primary Source, The Analyzer Must Take
When looking at a primary source, the analyzer must take into consideration several components
that can help him or her narrow down their inferences about the source. The first thing to analyze in
depth is the Authorship. This means to look specifically at the topics addressed and the natural
biases that are relevant in the work. The tone in the subject matteris also important to see how
strongly the source may show content or resent towards a specific topic. Even certain writing
styles can help decipher an era, culture or even an individual. The specific word syntax leads to
how an analyzer would discover the purpose or rationale for the primary source. Purpose and

Obviously looking at this, the topic is based around religion or its roots are based in religion.
Naturally there is a desire to find out which religion. Now previously there are references to God
and Christ, so the author must be some denomination of Catholicism but in the fourth article the
author says rights should be exercised in a Christian and brotherly fashion . The author is very
religious and now there is clear evidence that he is a Christian. This along with all of the authors
religious vocabulary helps define the author as a very religious human. The author uses the nature
of religion to mediate the issue at hand. The issue is not religion because in the third article the
author exclaims Christ has delivered and redeemed us all . Although religion is strongly talked
about it is not the dissenting issue because the author sees that who the author is dissenting from
is still the son of the same God. The issue lies in a power struggle, mainly an economic one. In the
same article the author says it is consistent with Scripture that we should be free and wish to be so.
Not that we would wish to be absolutely free and under no authority . The Author is using religion
to back the ideology of freedom. The Author clearly is talking about authority overstepping its
boundaries. The author constantly uses the term poor man and when to referring to the poor man

Dissociative Amnesia In Psychology

So B By Sarah Weeks
The weird start
This story has a weird beginning. I thought that the first chapter of So B. by Sarah Weeks it was
going to be an introduction and all. But it was talking about dinosaur skin color. Then all these
thing started popping in my head like if the whole book will be about dinosaur skin color, why did
the author choose to start her story this way. This is why i choose to write an essayabout it. But I
found the first sentence of the story unique, Something you won t see in other books.
The first sentence was, If the truth was a crayon and it was up to me to put a wrapper around it
and name its color, I know just what I would call it dinosaur skin. It didn t really make sense to me
in the beginning. It made me feel like the book was about dinosaur skin color or something i
wonder why the Author add that part and on the first chapter. The title of this chapter was Heidi,
maybe the Author thought that heidi the main character of the book liked dinosaurs, so she should
include it in the story. I looked at one of the leads that the Author might of started the story with and
the beginning with but it didn t fit into any of them the first chapter was not all that interesting. But

Sidney Bechet Similar to Louis Armstrong a man named Sidney Bechet was a jazz musician
who was among the best of New Orleans Jazz. Bechet was born into a middle class Creole family
that accepted music as a huge part of their lives. Omar Bechet was Sidney s father; he was a flute

Caillebotte Paris Street A Rainy Day
There are numerous clichГ© statements regarding art, such as A picture is worth a thousand

Day on Fifth Avenue (1893). By first glance, both paintings have some obvious similarities, most
notable being people walking in the rain with horse drawn carriages in the background, but given
the period the paintings may have very different interpretations by the viewer. The two artists use

The streets are cobbled, the afternoon sky is cloud covered and shows a subtle gradation from
rose gray near the horizon to a cool gray toward the top, and everyone is walking under
umbrellas. Many characters look as if they are out for a leisurely stroll, shopping, or just taking

all symbolic of the late 19th century. The artist used deep colors, making the painting appear
darker; perhaps to evoke the feeling of a rainy day or that it is sometime between late afternoon
and early evening. It is interesting to note that a fashionably dressed Parisian couple (a man and a

sharper detail than others are, while objects further away have fewer distinguishing features. This

Humanity Is The Duty Of Humanity
Humanity has not learned yet Humanity cannot be defined in two simple terms. Two words are not
enough to completely encompass everyone and everything, but that is exactly what humans do. It
is the duty of humanity to learn and grow which is why mankind must formulate more concise and
clear definitions of good and evil. It is flabbergasting that the humanspecies has not been intelligent
enough to learn this lesson yet. Continuing, the current definition of evil is too relative to be the
same for every human being. Consider the question, do humanshave the right to do whatever they
can to survive? Secondly, look at Thomas Hobbes point of view on the social contractand finally
reflect on William Golding s Lord of the flies for a unique perspective on human nature in
extraneous situations. Humanity in the past has wiped out species, demolished forests, and dumped
an ocean s worth of CO2in the atmosphere. The average person would see these examples as
abominable, however, we did not at the time and they are still heavily debated topics. If mankind
cannot decide exactly what is acceptable, then why do humans try to? Humanity should author a
system in which it defines things as acceptable or not while taking into account the relativity. One
cannot endeavor to define all of humanity or what they currently consider commencible, as a part of
the duty to themselves, they must respect each other s opinions in all situations. To conclude, when

Virginia Woolf Influences
Sometimes authors lives are almost as interesting as the work they produce, and Virginia Woolf s
life is a tremendous example of this. As a woman writing in the early 20th century, Woolf offers a
unique voice that speaks both to her own fascinating life and to the historical moment in which she
was writing.
Woolf was born in 1882 in London, and throughout her life she had the opportunity to surround
herself with London s elite thinkers. She began writing early and published her first novel, The
Voyage Out, in 1915. She would go on to write numerous novels, short stories, and works of
nonfiction. Some of her most influential writings include Orlando, A Room of One s Own, and
Mrs. Dalloway.
Throughout her life, Woolf suffered from nervous breakdowns and depression, and in 1941, having

These changes, combined with the human capacity for evil that was displayed during WWI,
resulted in many artists believing that it was necessary to disregard traditional art forms and

complicate reality and how we believe that we understand reality.
Woolf s own work reflects many of the ideals of the modernist movement. Her narration is
defined by its stream of conscience quality; rather than having a fixed narrator with a fixed
perspective, Woolf goes in and out of the minds of different characters, making unexpected
connections that are not always clear or necessarily rational. This feature of her writing allows her

Patent Laws And Its Legal Justifications
About a third of the total world population has no access to essential drugs, and more than half of
this group lives in poor regions of Asia and Africa (Sterckx 21). There are many factors that affect
the accessibility of drugs to patients in developing countries, one of them being the patent system.
Patentis an intellectual property right that relates to innovations and grants exclusive ownership
right of an invention to a patentee, and protects the patented product to reproduction, using, selling,
importing, or process producing the patented product (John and Wendy 1). This paper explores the
patent law in India in relation to its legal justifications(domestic and international), as well as the
ethical considerations in relation to patent medical drugs. The purpose of the patent system is to
encourage innovations by ensuring that they are protected and utilized in a way that contributes to
the development of industries, and to promote technological innovation and dissemination of
technology (John and Wendy 1). Patent laws are territorial in nature and are not enforceable to
another country from which they were not issued unless there is separate patent applications filed
in those countries. However, when it comes to protecting medical drugs, the patent system becomes
a controversial issue, and this majorly relates to the provision of drugs in developing countries.
While patent protection for pharmaceutical products in the developing world may serve to promote

Gone Girl By David Fincher
In the way a finger leaves a print specific to the touch of its owner, auteurs stylize elements of their
works so that their creation is definitive enough to be traced back to its creator. In order to identify
these definitive components, an auteur must establish common thematic and formal elements that
their texts typically contain. In David Finchers film Gone Girl (2014), Amy Dunne suddenly
vanishes, seemingly from violent kidnapping, leaving her husband, Nick Dunne, in a media frenzy

Amy s mother and father abandoned their hopes of having a daughter that was as successful as
they desired by creating an improved version of Amy in their lucrative children s series, Amazing
Amy. Entrenched in the comparison of her fictitious counterpart, Amy lives her life fooling those
around her to believe she is an enhanced version of herself while silently dwelling on her discovery
of Nick s infidelity. The individuals that Nick and Amy become because of these childhood
influences cause them to comply with another prevalent thematic element: Fincher s men act, often
recklessly, but his women know (Orgeron et al. 2011). In this example, Nick s infidelity is his
reckless behavior, while Amy s knowing is her false appearance of ignorance, but as Orgeron
states, ...behind this static gaze lies a more complete, more complex knowledge of the American
family, its dissolution, its decay. This idea of reckless men and knowing women is also an
important thematic element in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Zodiac (2007), and Seven
(1995). Frequently presented in Fincher s films is a poststructuralist critique of one or more social
systems (present in Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network (2010), The Girl with the Dragon
Tattoo, and Zodiac). In Gone Girl, the two systems under criticism are the judicial system and tv
news broadcasting. Although initially remaining compliant with the policemen that are

Heart Valve Infection
What is Heart Valve Infection in Cats?
The heart wall is composed of three separate layers: the inner endocardium, the middle myocardium
and the outer epicardium. When the endocardium becomes infected, infective endocarditis results,
causing infection in the inner heart wall and one or more heart valves. Any generalized infection can
cause an infection in this portion of the heart.
Though the condition is rare in cats, the complications of it can lead to heart failure and death.
Prompt treatment of the underlying infection is necessary in order to save the cat s heart and life.
Symptoms of Heart Valve Infection in Cats

An echocardiogram (ECG), which is an ultrasound of the heart, will be performed. The
echocardiogram can show the veterinarian any inflammation that may be present as a result of the
infection and show how the heart is functioning. As blood cultures are only positive in 50 to 90
percent of cases, the ECG is the most important diagnostic tool in heart valve infection cases. An
electrocardiogram (EKG) may also be done. An EKG shows the electrical activity in the heart and
can show any skipped heart beats or palpitations that are occurring.
Treatment of Heart Valve Infection in Cats
Fluid Therapy
Cats who have been diagnosed with infective endocarditis will need to be hospitalized for treatment.
Fluids will be administered intravenously to prevent dehydration and ensure that the other organs
have the fluids necessary to function properly. The veterinarian will monitor the fluid s effect on
the other organs, such as the kidneys and lungs, if the heart isn t pumping properly.
Antibiotic Therapy
Antibiotics will need to be given for approximately 12 weeks in order to clear the underlying
infection that caused the infective endocarditis. A generalized antibiotic will be given until the
blood culture has identified the infectious organism and the proper antibiotic to treat

Thinking Outside the Box of Christianity Essay
Humans have an attribute that animals do not have: free will. In our lives, we are frequently
presented with many opportunities to make our own choices, but what exactly fuels and supports
our decision making? Sometimes, we act impulsively for no reason, but for the most part, we are
often influenced by various outside factors, such as past experiences, religious beliefs, or peer
pressure, to make our choices. Emil Sinclair, the narrator of Herman Hesse s bildungsroman Demian
, is an example of an individual who incorporates different aspects and beliefs of religion,
particularly Christianity, into his life. Raised in a Christian household, Emil has always viewed
religion as a big role; not only does religion influence his actions, it also... Show more content on

This was the world in which morning hymns were sung and Christmas celebrated (Hesse 3). On
occasion, he was certain that he was destined to be as orderly and superior as his mother and
father perfect examples of the light realm. However, in spite of struggling to find his inner self,
his path and hopes to achieve greatness go astray. Emil experiences his first sense of religious
doubt after he tells a lie, and as a result, he feels that he has entered the realm of evil and sin.
Unquestionably I belonged to the realm of light and righteousness; I was my parents child. But
in whichever direction I turned I perceived the other world, and I lived within that other world as
well, though often a stranger to it, and suffering from panic and a bad conscience (4 5). Keeping
a secret from his guardians, Sinclair perceives his father as less powerful and holy. In a religious
sense, Emil s feelings for his father represent his feelings for God, and thus Sinclair s image of
Him as sacred is likewise diminished by his personal experience in the dark realm. In addition,
Sinclair compares himself to the Prodigal son, but unlike the Prodigal son of Christian doctrine,
Emil does not return to ask for forgiveness. As Emil Sinclair grows older, he is presented with
distinct perspectives which differ with his religion, but instead of abandoning Christianity all
together, he selects

Analysis Of The Rabbit Proof Fence
How would you feel if you got taken away from your parents and family? The author of the rabbit

treated the aboriginal people. The forced removal of Indigenous Australians from land and family
had an impact on Australia. Today s oral presentation will discuss: the time that the rabbit proof

to view the indigenous perspective through its use of multimodal elements.

The Edmonton Police Service s (EPS) vision is as follows: To make Edmonton the safest major
city in Canada and for the EPS to be recognized as a leader in policing (Edmonton Police Service,

2040, Edmonton is an energy driven city mindful of renewable energy sources; Edmonton is a
design city, rich in urban, architectural, and environmental design; Edmonton s streets are safe to

ValuesThe values outlined by the EPS are integrity, accountability, respect, innovation, courage, and
community (Edmonton Police Service, 2014). For the city of Edmonton s values I referred to their
conditions of success which they outline as follows: organizational capacity (for example, fiscal
and human); sound management practice and process; enabling infrastructure (for example,
information technology); and, effective communication (The Way Ahead, 2018). Comparison of
ValuesObviously, the EPS find it imperative to be a professional police force that is accountable in
their actions and integral in their methods. Also, they find it important to be courageous and treat
people with respect. The city of Edmonton mentioned effective communication and sound
management practices as a value towards creating their mission. This is similar to the EPS values
of integrity, accountability, and respect. In order for both entities to meet their outlined missions
/ visions they will be required to ensure that among their employees and management there is an
effective dialogue that promotes accountability amongst their employees. Furthermore, the city of
Edmonton s value of organizational capacity aligns with EPS value of innovation. Essentially, EPS

Example Of Ambush Marketing
What is the definition of the term Ambush marketing ? In his book Ambush marketing in sports
Gerd stated that the verb to ambush is identified as to attack. Thus the sponsors consider ambush
marketing as acts and illegal thefts. Moreover, according to Meenaghan, in his opinion this act is a
practice of a competitor that interferes with the attention of the audience near a specific event and
distracts the people s attention from the sponsor. 1, 2 Being a type of guerrilla marketing, Linda
Norcross in her article in Street Smith s SportsBusiness Journam, identified ambush marketing as
the marketing campaign that takes place during the organization of a big event while trying to

3 Examples of these types: In 1984, Kodak decided to sponsor a TV broadcast despite that the

conference starring Michael Jordan who hid his Reebok uniform logo. In 1996, Puma who
provided him with contact lenses having the big Puma logo on them despite that Reebok was the
official sponsor sponsored Linford Christies the British runner. And in 2010, MasterCard utilized

people claim that it affects and threatens to erode the fundamental revenue base of mega sporting

Who Is Mcdonald s
Introduction
During this assignment, I intend to cover the marketing concept and its importance to an
organization as McDonalds. I will make particular reference of the marketing environment,
consumer markets, market segmentation and the importance of the role of the marketing mix. In
addition, I will focus on the concepts of marketing in terms of supporting their brand standards.
McDonalds is known as the world s largest fast food chain and his presence is global. McDonald
s has over 25,000 restaurants in the world., The organization, founded in 1940 by Richard and
Maurice McDonald, has now operating over 1200 restaurants, of which 620 are franchises, only in
the UK. McDonalds UK has employed over 85,000 people and over 1 million ... Show more content

Kotler argued that marketing was meeting the needs of the customer at a profit.
Marketing is products that don t come back and consumers that do (Steve Dawson, President of
Walkers Shortbread Inc.)
The right product, in the right place, at the right time, at the right price (Adcock)
According to Lansingbusinessnews.com (2015), brand standards are defined as a set of guidelines
made to help companies and their affiliates to communicate the look, feel and representation of an
organization. The purpose of using these guidelines is to transmit the same message to the target
audience, so in this way the organization s message remains consistent.
McDonald s strategy is to ensure uniformity at a global level and for this reason, all franchisees use
standardized McDonald s branding, menus, design layouts and administration system (Franchising
at McDonald s, 2008). Also, they focus on using the same manufacturing or handling methods in
order to maintain the quality of the menu items.
Brand standards are different for every organization and companies as McDonalds concentrate on
every detail, but certainly a key point in brand developing is the logo. It is arguable that
McDonalds has changed his logo many times but, surely, this can be explained by its long history
and the need of adaptability. Although the McDonald s logo was inconsistently presented, this fact
has not stopped McDonald s to become the

The Origin Of Modern Human Behavior
The origin of modern human behavior is a subject in anthropology that accumulates much debate.
Cognition is the dominant factor in such behavior, therefore raises the question, when did this
separation of intelligent or modern thought from the primitive come to daily behavior for our
genus? There are two such answers that hold experts in the field captive in debate: the rapid
imagination revolution in the European centrailized Upper Paleolithic, and the steadiness of
cognitive growth provided first in Africa during the Middle Paleolithic. Although each argument
provides supportive evidence for their perspective claims, the more naturally convincing shows this
creative revolution taking place much earlier than the Upper Paleolithic. This explanations human
cognition developing with no brisk advantageous revolutionary response, and instead by gradual
means. This metamorphosis follows the pattern of biological human evolution. My argument
combats the imagination revolution claim to the origins of creativity using specific artifacts dated
earlier than those of European restrictions. Furthermore, it is the lack of excavation in Africa and
the conditions of the terrain itself that pose problematic preservation of artifacts, unlike in Europe,
to exonerate this innovative exclusivity. These pieces of evidence in Africa exemplify a higher
process of thinking, commonly those showing deliberate means of bead and rock art used for both
personal functions of expression. If art

Characteristics Of Successful Business Leader
There is no perfect skill set for a successful business owner and the cookie cutter approach some
people take is wrong. Businesses vary, and as a result, the skills needed to own and run them vary
also. With that, there are some general traits that successful business leader should have.
1. Optimism:
You must be an optimist because, at some point, you have to see beyond the hard times to see the
better times. Optimism and confidence tend to go together. You, as the businessowner, must be able
to make it through the tough times because you have hope on getting better.
2. Able To Sacrifice:
Being in the bottom spot on the totem pole is something that you are going to encounter as owner.
Your business takes precedence over just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people start a business for self employment as they can t get along with their boss.
5. Common Sense:
As a successful business leader, you need to have the ability to anticipate problems and take steps
to prevent them. Successful businesses look to outsiders like there are rarely any problems. What
they don t see is a business owner that is keeping his/her finger on the pulse of the business and the
industry. When they anticipate changes coming, they take steps to prepare their business in case it
comes about. That preparation and willingness to change can make the difference between success
and failure. Done well and it s just about invisible to anyone except the business owner.
6. Be Organized:
Being organized is a major problem to most of the business leaders. In case you can not handle
various things at the same time, then you shouldn t go into business for yourself. There is NEVER
just one thing going on when you own business. There are customer problems; there are vendor
/supplier problems, and there are competition problems. As a business owner, you have to be able
to quickly know and understand which problems need attention first. You have to be able to
prioritize your problems and know that those same priorities may change on a moments notice.
7. Be a Leader:
People, especially your employees will always be looking to you for answers. Answers about your
products, your market, your competition and just about everything else. As the

The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth Essay
The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth
William Wordsworth s poem The world is too much with us is a statement about conflict between
nature and humanity. The symbolism in his poem illustrates a sense of the conviction and deep
feelings Wordsworth had toward nature. He longs for a much simpler time when the progress of
humanity was tempered by the restriction nature imposed. Wordsworth is saying in this poem that
man is wasting his time on earth by not appreciating nature around him. He is looking but not
beholding. We have given our hearts away (4) means that we have sold the part of us that is from
the earth (man which is from dust) in order to make other things more important than appreciating
life; such as, money or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unlike society, Wordsworth does not see nature as a commodity. The verse Little we see in
Nature that is ours (3), shows that coexisting is the relationship envisioned. This relationship
appears to be at the mercy of mankind because of the vulnerable way nature is described. The
verse This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon (5), gives the vision of a woman exposed to the
heavens. In addition, the phrase sleeping flowers (7) might also describe how nature is being
overrun unknowingly.
Wordsworth seems to foresee the inevitable, because he sees himself as one with the
environment. The verse I, standing on this pleasant lea, have glimpses that would make me less
forlorn (11 12), shows Wordsworth as a visionary who is not responsible for the destruction of
nature. In addition, the change Wordsworth is hoping for will come in the form of a mighty
revolt by nature. This is why Wordsworth reaches back into ancient Greece for their gods who
symbolize nature and strength to make the change. Proteus was a sea god who could change his
appearance to get away from capture. Proteus is seen rising from the sea, facing the injustices
inflicted upon nature, placing the cycle of life back in balance. The ability to change ones
appearance is critical in facing the variety of threats mankind might impose. The god Triton was
also mentioned as a savior to nature as well. Triton was the most imposing of the gods

Little Match Girl Re Write
Little Match Girl Re write Mrs Charlton, knew that her daughter Susan wasn t calling in to see
her today. She had told her mother yesterday that she would be going away for a business trip.
The only other visitor that Mrs Charlton knew would call would be the doctor. Oh where was
he? she thought, as she looked at the clock one more time. Not time yet she said out loud. He
normally came by around lunch time, after his morning surgery. and it was still only mid
morning. The pains were particularly bad today and she had none of the pills left. However not
to worry as the doctor would call in a prescription for her and the pharmacy will deliver a little
later. Even so she could do with taking some of these pills now and getting the persistent aching
to go away and get a little relief. Arthritis had crippled her body making it painful to move and
old age had muddled her mind and almost destroyed her hearing. She wanted to turn on the
heating? And would do so, just before she thought the doctor Cameron would arrive. Normally
she sat in the cold, covered by a blanket or just went to bed with a hot water bottle. It had never
been like this when her husband had been alive. He had looked after her and they had spent
evenings sitting in front of a blazing coal fire. Now she dared not turn on the gas heating as she
could not afford the bills. She still had her pride and didn t want the doctor to experience her cold
house. It was almost two thirty when Dr Anderson arrived and

  • 2. Hadrian s Campaign Essay Hadrian was born in Rome on Jan. 2, 76. The event of him becoming the new emperor of Rome raised quite a bit of suspicion. It is said that his uncle, the previous ruler, adopted Hadrian while on his death bed. There is some suspicion about this because all the other potential heirs for the position were all mysteriously killed leaving Hadrian to take the throne. After his uncle died, Hadrian took over as the new emperor of Rome. During the time Hadrian took his place as a royal, Rome was involved in the Parthian War. This war was between many parties fighting for Parthian. Hadrian, however, decided to take his army out of the war and back out completely. During the war, many people were killed. Yes, they were killed from battle, but they were also killed by the plague. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hadrian focused so much on the defensive side of things, that he solders training was becoming unnecessary, and the efficiency of the armies started to decline. One of Hadrian s famous creations was the Hadrian Wall. This was the defense barrier he built on the border between England and Scotland. Another significant event that took place during Hadrian s reign was a religious outbreak. During his rule, Hadrian decided to restore Jerusalem. Through the process of restoring this lad he built a temple to Jupiter. Jupiter, also known as Zeus, is the Roman god of the sky. Now this would have been fine, but Hadrian chose to build this temple exactly where the Jewish temple once stood. This is the reason for the Jewish outbreak. The Jewish outbreak lasted for three and a half years with more than half a million people dead. Overall Hadrian did not have much class when running the Roman empire. He started off rough with a sketchy coronation. Then, once he took control chose to pull back his military forces completely which seems a little coward like. Finally, the fact that he built a temple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Describe recent trends in the hedge fund and private equity industry and the growing overlap between the two. A: Hedge funds, historically, were more interested in the buying and short selling of defaulted or near default bonds within a few weeks or months. This strategy was more of a short term, exit focused strategy. Now, however, some hedge funds are becoming more interested in the restructuring and long term controlling of attractive assets. A: Kmart was, in the late 1970s, much larger than the famous superstore giant called Wal mart with sales 20x that of Wal mart s and roughly 850 more stores nationwide. However, Kmart s sales stayed consistently stagnant, while Wal mart became the giant it is now. A poor supply chain, unfriendly store layout, among other things, created a huge disadvantage versus other big box retailers. In 2001, Kmart made a tragic decision to cut costs close to Wal mart s famous everyday low price , but by doing so, took on huge losses and sold items well below cost. This resulted in a lack of liquidity and the ending result of filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Hedge funds started studying the value of Kmart s distressed assets, but none had the capital nor the confidence to amass a controlling stake in the defaulted bonds. The bonds wouldn t be sold at par value, but they would be sold for either cash through the sale of assets or bondholders would receive equity in the new company emerging from bankruptcy. Bankruptcy was considered an opportunistic time to acquire businesses that had strong synergies with existing, healthy companies of the same industry. However, when one sector is struggling to stay afloat, other companies aren t usually able or willing to commit the cash to acquiring the failed company and thus financial buyers step in. 3. ... The Authoritarian Personality By Erich Fromm In his essay, The Authoritarian Personality, Erich Fromm elucidates the two types of authoritarian personalities: the passive authoritarian (masochistic, submissive), and the active authoritarian (sadistic, dominant). In contrast to the authoritarian personality which is marked by one s inability to rely upon oneself Fromm posits that the character of the independent individual is marked by two skills: love and reason. According to Fromm, love allows the individual to maintain autonomy whilst connecting to the world, and reason allows the individual to delve beneath the surface to determine how things operate. Thus, the individual fueled by reason and love can participate in rational authority a relationship (such as that between... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We became employees and consumers; we came to understand that we are responsible not only for our own welfare, but for the welfare of our fellow laborers. With individuality comes not only conscience and accountability, but perplexity, estrangement, thunderstruckness in short, the deep aloneness of which Fromm writes. To participate in society, one must often be complicit. Responding to authority with trust rather than doubt provides the most convenient means by which to alleviate one s deep sense of aloneness. To question everything, after all, is to put oneself in a state of perpetual limbo. Prolonged uncertainty wreaks inner havoc. Passivity (with its homeostatic rewards) often wins out. While passivity and domination is to be found everywhere in a capitalistic society, I often look to art to examine the mechanisms by which authority takes hold, and the ways that we struggle against it. Film, of course, is just one of many media we use to explore our own natures, particularly in relation to authority our strengths, our shortcomings but it is one of the most powerful. It can disseminate a point of view that strikes at all senses. (As Jeanette Winterson writes: If art, all art, is concerned with truth, then a society in denial will not find much use for it... ). • 9. Shift Of Emphasis From Racism Shift of Emphasis From Classism to Racism Disasters often present to a society the opportunity for self examination by stripping away the facade and revealing the underlying problems and inequities that were overlooked and oppressed by the established social order. When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, not only did it bring about complete destruction to the physical landscape, but it also brought to light the social inequalities and vulnerabilities that were present and deeply rooted in the community, which became a social disaster. Soon in the aftermath, many attempted to define and categorize Hurricane Katrina as either a class disaster or a race disaster. The fact that the wealthy and well off families who could afford to reside in areas safe from the floods and those who could evacuate in time to escape the Hurricane presented the idea that Katrina was a class based disaster . On the other hand, the fact that the poor that remained behind and suffered the full blow of Hurricane Katrina were predominantly black Americans contributed greatly to the debate of race based disaster. However, when analyzing the timeline of the disaster, it appears that during the pre hurricane period, the most prevalent issue was classism, where the poor and desolate were unable to escape the forecasted disaster. During the period of disorganization following the hurricane, the most prevalent issue was racism, where the discrimination between poor white Americans and poor black ... In 2003 an index was created by the United Nations Development Program that measures successes in the categories of real income, life expectancy, and education. With that Madagascar was ranked 149 out of 175 counties. A lot of this can be due to kleptocratic rule, religion, economic colonialism, and lack of infrastructure. Madagascar is still very much a developing country with the average Malagasy (term for a resident in Madagascar) making only one US dollar per day. Even though Madagascar achieved full independence in 1960 it is still ran today as if it were a colony. While under kleptocratic rule, the dictator Didier Ratsiraka stole millions of dollars. Which in turn led to a decline in foreign investors, it discouraged private sector development, and discredited the governments trustworthiness. This country is based on natural resource extraction and economies like this or much more prone to kleptocracy. When the president Marc Ravalomananacame to in 2002 he pushed for economic reform and tried to bring foreign investors back to the country while also keeping natural resource extraction an important role in building the economy. • 11. Federal Government s Difficulty in Adopting a Budget Over the past few years the federal government has experienced considerable difficulty in adopting a budget. Instead of agreeing to a budget that allows for the orderly operation of the government s various agencies and determines the nation s annual spending and revenue priorities, legislative and executive branches have been embroiled in acrimonious debate that has largely broken down along political lines. The presence budgetary process was originally created in 1974 (Keith, 1997) and there have been a number of abuses and problems over the years since in the use of the process but since the early 2000s the process has largely failed to serve the nation s needs. With increasing difficulty, Congress has, since that time, been unable to smoothly adopt a budget with most budgets since that time being delayed until well into the fiscal year and, most recently, a complete failure to adopt a budget. In the forty plus years since the present budgetary process was created, a variety of problems have developed which have hampered the operation of the government (Pew Commission, 2010). First among these problems is the fact that the present system does not require the executive and legislative branches to begin negotiating their potential differences over the budget until late in the budgetary process. By the time that the two branches are expected to begin discussing their differences the budgetary process has been proceeding for months and the various agencies dependent on the ... One theory that contributed to hypertension amongst this culture group is stressors, especially when it came to acculturation, which is an adaptation of a new environment in every aspect that includes social, cultural, psychological and even political changes (Ursua et al., 2013). Another contribution to hypertension within this culture is lack of knowledge, specifically when it comes to diet (Serafica Angosta, 2016). Many recipes in the Filipino culture contain high sodium. Therefore, in addition to consuming Filipino dishes, American diet, when not taken into consideration, can exacerbate the high consumption of sodium and saturated fat which leads to hypertension as well. A nursing intervention to help improve this health need within the Filipino American population is helping identify stressors and ways to reduce them. As Ursua et al. found that stress is a factor of hypertension, especially amongst Filipino Americans and their experience with migrating to the United States to provide for their family back in the Philippines (2014). A nurse can help identify with the patient the stressors and discover a realistic plan or coping mechanism to overcome them. During the continuation phase, planning focuses on maintaining adherence to the medication regimen and prevention of relapse (Halter, 2014. p. 235). Interventions vary depending on the patient s coping skills, cognitive function, availability of support systems, and financial status. Psychoeducational teaching must be done for the patient as well as the family. If needed, referrals to community programs or groups may be done. Caillebotte Paris Street A Rainy Day There are numerous clichГ© statements regarding art, such as A picture is worth a thousand words or Beauty is in the eye of the beholder , certainly, this would apply when viewing two paintings depicting a rainy day in the late 19th Century. The first painting titled Paris Street; A Rainy Day (1877) is by Gustave Caillebotte and the second is by Childe Hassam titled A Rainy Day on Fifth Avenue (1893). By first glance, both paintings have some obvious similarities, most notable being people walking in the rain with horse drawn carriages in the background, but given the period the paintings may have very different interpretations by the viewer. The streets are cobbled, the afternoon sky is cloud covered and shows a subtle gradation from rose gray near the horizon to a cool gray toward the top, and everyone is walking under umbrellas. Many characters look as if they are out for a leisurely stroll, shopping, or just taking in the sights. Men wear top hats and long tailed coats while the women wear full length dresses, all symbolic of the late 19th century. The artist used deep colors, making the painting appear darker; perhaps to evoke the feeling of a rainy day or that it is sometime between late afternoon and early evening. It is interesting to note that a fashionably dressed Parisian couple (a man and a woman) in the foreground of the painting is walking toward the viewer. They are portrayed in sharper detail than others are, while objects further away have fewer distinguishing features. Two words are not enough to completely encompass everyone and everything, but that is exactly what humans do. It is the duty of humanity to learn and grow which is why mankind must formulate more concise and clear definitions of good and evil. It is flabbergasting that the humanspecies has not been intelligent enough to learn this lesson yet. Continuing, the current definition of evil is too relative to be the same for every human being. Consider the question, do humanshave the right to do whatever they can to survive? Secondly, look at Thomas Hobbes point of view on the social contractand finally reflect on William Golding s Lord of the flies for a unique perspective on human nature in extraneous situations. Humanity in the past has wiped out species, demolished forests, and dumped an ocean s worth of CO2in the atmosphere. The average person would see these examples as abominable, however, we did not at the time and they are still heavily debated topics. If mankind cannot decide exactly what is acceptable, then why do humans try to? Humanity should author a system in which it defines things as acceptable or not while taking into account the relativity. One cannot endeavor to define all of humanity or what they currently consider commencible, as a part of the duty to themselves, they must respect each other s opinions in all situations. As a woman writing in the early 20th century, Woolf offers a unique voice that speaks both to her own fascinating life and to the historical moment in which she was writing. Woolf was born in 1882 in London, and throughout her life she had the opportunity to surround herself with London s elite thinkers. Patent Laws And Its Legal Justifications About a third of the total world population has no access to essential drugs, and more than half of this group lives in poor regions of Asia and Africa (Sterckx 21). There are many factors that affect the accessibility of drugs to patients in developing countries, one of them being the patent system. Patentis an intellectual property right that relates to innovations and grants exclusive ownership right of an invention to a patentee, and protects the patented product to reproduction, using, selling, importing, or process producing the patented product (John and Wendy 1). This paper explores the patent law in India in relation to its legal justifications(domestic and international), as well as the ethical considerations in relation to patent medical drugs. The purpose of the patent system is to encourage innovations by ensuring that they are protected and utilized in a way that contributes to the development of industries, and to promote technological innovation and dissemination of technology (John and Wendy 1). Patent laws are territorial in nature and are not enforceable to another country from which they were not issued unless there is separate patent applications filed in those countries. However, when it comes to protecting medical drugs, the patent system becomes a controversial issue, and this majorly relates to the provision of drugs in developing countries. In order to identify these definitive components, an auteur must establish common thematic and formal elements that their texts typically contain. In David Finchers film Gone Girl (2014), Amy Dunne suddenly vanishes, seemingly from violent kidnapping, leaving her husband, Nick Dunne, in a media frenzy over his suspected involvement in her disappearance. The film utilizes some of his most common thematic elements: paternal or maternal abandonment during childhood and its influence on adulthood, the poststructuralist critique of social systems, and... Entrenched in the comparison of her fictitious counterpart, Amy lives her life fooling those around her to believe she is an enhanced version of herself while silently dwelling on her discovery of Nick s infidelity. The individuals that Nick and Amy become because of these childhood influences cause them to comply with another prevalent thematic element: Fincher s men act, often recklessly, but his women know (Orgeron et al. 2011). In this example, Nick s infidelity is his reckless behavior, while Amy s knowing is her false appearance of ignorance, but as Orgeron states, ...behind this static gaze lies a more complete, more complex knowledge of the American family, its dissolution, its decay. Cognition is the dominant factor in such behavior, therefore raises the question, when did this separation of intelligent or modern thought from the primitive come to daily behavior for our genus? Although each argument provides supportive evidence for their perspective claims, the more naturally convincing shows this creative revolution taking place much earlier than the Upper Paleolithic. This explanations human cognition developing with no brisk advantageous revolutionary response, and instead by gradual means. This metamorphosis follows the pattern of biological human evolution. The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth Essay The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth William Wordsworth s poem The world is too much with us is a statement about conflict between nature and humanity. The symbolism in his poem illustrates a sense of the conviction and deep feelings Wordsworth had toward nature. He longs for a much simpler time when the progress of humanity was tempered by the restriction nature imposed. Wordsworth is saying in this poem that man is wasting his time on earth by not appreciating nature around him. He is looking but not beholding. This relationship appears to be at the mercy of mankind because of the vulnerable way nature is described. The verse This Sea that bares her bosom to the moon (5), gives the vision of a woman exposed to the heavens. In addition, the phrase sleeping flowers (7) might also describe how nature is being overrun unknowingly. Wordsworth seems to foresee the inevitable, because he sees himself as one with the environment. The verse I, standing on this pleasant lea, have glimpses that would make me less forlorn (11 12), shows Wordsworth as a visionary who is not responsible for the destruction of nature. In addition, the change Wordsworth is hoping for will come in the form of a mighty revolt by nature. This is why Wordsworth reaches back into ancient Greece for their gods who symbolize nature and strength to make the change. Proteus was a sea god who could change his appearance to get away from capture. Proteus is seen rising from the sea, facing the injustices inflicted upon nature, placing the cycle of life back in balance.
