The Flat Earth Theory
Advancements in communication via channels such as the internet have allowed for many false
scientific theories to become increasingly popular in today s society. These theories have become
widespread and intertwined with common beliefs to the point where many of them are now
synonymous with actual theories. The flat earth theory is a claim that suggests the earth isn t a
three dimensional sphere, but instead a flat, two dimensional circle (Flat Earth). The theory of plate
tectonicsoutlines how continental drift occurs as a result of the lithosphere consisting of plates that
are able to move along on top of the asthenosphere as well as what occurs in the mantle to cause the
formation of these plates (Van Andel and Murphy, 1). Pseudoscientific

When plate tectonic theory was first conceived with the continental drift theory in 1919, there
was some controversy regarding the evidence found and the theory was not accepted. Many
distinguished scientists including Harold Jeffreys believed that the new theory was false and
refused to lend it support. However, evidence had been found by the 1960 s that showed oceanic
crust is magnetic and could therefore confirm seafloor spreading, and continental drift
(Richardson). On the other hand, the Bedford Level Experiment can be used to show the
limitations of the flat earth theory again, as it showed that proponents of the theory refused to
believe that it was incorrect. Instead of trying to reconfirm this data through proper research or
conducting a similar experiment somewhere else in the world, believers of a flat earth denied the
unsupportive evidence and clung to the few supportive points they had (Richardson). By being
critical of one s own theory and actively searching for both supportive and unsupportive evidence,
scientific theories can be strengthened and advanced. Oppositely, theories of pseudoscience are
forgotten and become irrelevant as time goes on because of the search for selective evidence and
minimal effort in trying to disprove them. This characteristic allows legitimate scientific theories to
be easily identified

Michigan s Role In The Underground Railroad
Michigan had a fairly important role in the Underground Railroad to help slaves escape slavery.
The second baptist church, which was in Detroit was meant to be a resting place for escaped
slaves and people who helped those former slaves. This church currently still exists in Detroit.
There were wagons in Goodell s farm. Goodell s farm was located in Adrian, Michigan. Many used
these wagons to help transport and hide escaped slaves. Many people were against slaveryin Detroit.
Many slaves were attracted to Detroit, Michigan. Many slaves escaped to freedom in Detroit,
Michigan. George de Baptiste was a black businessman. He also actively contributed as a member

Separate Spheres
There was no equality between man and woman in the Victorian era. The patriarchic system was
the norm and women usually led a more secluded, private life. Men, on the other hand, possessed
all kinds of freedom ( Gender Roles ). Moreover, the man was naturally the head of the family and
the guardian of family members. He was the protector and the lord. He was strong, brave and hard
working ( GenderRoles ). The Victorian erawas the time in which the roles of men and women
were defined more strictly than at any other time in history. The Victorians considered males and
females as Separate Spheres that met only during meals. According to Hughes, the ideology of
Separate Spheres rested on a definition of the natural characteristics of women and men. Women
were considered physically weaker yet morally superior to men, what meant that they were best
suited to the domestic sphere ( Gender roles in the 19th century ). The fact that womanwas morally
superior to man led to the belief that her goal was to bear many children and maintain a home that
her husband did not have to worry about (berryofthesea). What is surprising is the fact that even
though women were perceived as morally superior, they could neither vote nor sue.... Show more

According to Hughes, women were assumed to desire marriage because it allowed them to
become mothers rather than to pursue sexual or emotional satisfaction ( Gender roles in the 19th
century ). It was a common practice in the Victorian era that young men used the services of
prostitutes, while women had to be pure and clean until marriage. Moreover, women were not
even allowed to speak to men unless there was a married woman present as a chaperone (Hughes).
The inequality is also evident in the fact that women were expected to have sex with only one man,
their husband. However, it was acceptable for men to have multiple partners in their life (Cody

Analysis Of Safe Is In The Brain Of The Beholder
Amidst all of the tumultuous violence and controversy that prevalent in today s society, it is no
wonder individuals turn to their comfort zones at the end of a hectic day. Most people students
and workforce members alike feel it necessary to hole up in their safe space to escape and
rejuvenate so that they can put their best foot forward the next day. Lee Burdette Williams
explores this concept of safe spaces through a variety of points in her article Safe is in the Brain of
the Beholder . In opposition to the Dean of the University of Chicago, she encourages people to
look past their own beliefs, and attempt to understand the needs of others, whatever they may be.
Throughout her article, Williams employs common sense tactics as well... Show more content on

Throughout Williams s article, she uses logos in multiple contexts to support her main
arguments. One area readers encounter logical appeals is when the author refers to a point made
by theorists William Cross, Robert Kegan, and Marcia Magolda. Each provide support for the
idea that growth eventually occurs in all individuals. However, they also maintain that this growth
does not happen at the same time for everyone. Individuals grow with time, increased maturity,
and life experience. Most importantly, students grow at their own pace. To extend this point, the
theorists emphasize that with time, individuals learn to separate their beliefs from who they
actually are. By doing so, they are able to recognize that the opinions of others are not definitive
of who they are, resulting in an increased tolerance for and ability to understand others. In the
words of Williams (2016), We move from being our relationships to having our relationships, from
being our beliefs to having our beliefs, from being our identities to having our identities. This
statement is crucial, because although opinions and beliefs are a part of our identity, they do not
make up our entire being. Additionally, science and theory are used in an attempt to appeal to
readers logically when Williams references proven neurological fact that

The Case Of Elonis V. United States
Judiciary Assignment While, reading the case, Elonis v. United States, I was astonished to see
that someone would post something so explicit, offensive, and inhumane. Basically, the case of
Elonis v. United States is about a man named Anthony Elonis who is an upcoming rapper and
used his stage name, Tone Dougie. His Facebook page consisted of him posting disturbing rap
lyrics. Even though Elonis was going through a divorce with his former wife, which did not stop
him from writing and posting crude lyrics. Eventually, it got to the point where his wife felt that
she was being targeted by his lyrics. According to an article on, New York Times, Elonis wrote
that he wanted to see a Halloween costume that included his wife s head on a stick. Obviously, she
felt threatened and reported the assaults to the police. Anthony Elonis was convicted for posting
threats that targeted his wife, his coworkers, police officers, a kindergarten class, and even an FBI
agent. Although Elonis argued that his posting are not considered to be a true threat and that he is
protected under the First Amendment. I believe he wanted to cause fear towards his wife, Tara and
therefore, is his lyrics are a true threat. Basically, a true threat is defined as something a person
would consider to be purposely harmful and cause pain. Elonis mentioned that his post were not
offended nor were the threatening anybody. He stated that he did not have the intent of trying to
harm anyone, he was just trying

Secular Humanism Rejects The Idea And Existence Of God
Secular humanism rejects the idea and existence of God. It is a philosophy of life, which views
that humans are the supreme beings of the universe. They believe that the creation of the universe
and life is an incredible coincidence. They believe that human existence is fully explained without
any references to spiritual occurrences. Secular humanists have no religion and reject the idea of
faith and spirituality. They believe that science is the only source of knowledge and reveals the
laws of nature and is measurable.
Does God exist?
Catholic view
Through out history people have believed in God and have practiced religion. Religion provides
meaning for people and it helps people answer the existential questions of life and also gives
people a purpose bigger than their own. Christians believe that God shows us the way to meaning
and purpose.
There are three arguments for the existence of god the ontological, cosmological and religious
experience. Ontological argument is for God is based on the ideas about nature of being,
existence and reality. This argument is based entirely on reason. You shouldn t have to go out and
looking for physical evidence that God existence we can work out that God exists just by thinking
about it. According to this argument God is perfection. God is all powerful and something can t be
called God unless it is perfect.
Aquinas who was one of the greatest Christian theologians explains the cosmological explanation.
Aquinas takes the existence

Effective Intervention Methods Used For The Treatment Of...
Abstract This literature review briefly examines the scholarly journal articles and research cited
above. The aim of these articles were to identify the effective intervention methods used for the
treatment of co occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders
(SUD). Although there is much evidence to support the high rate of individuals who experience
symptoms of or are diagnosed with both PTSD and a SUD, there is little known about the
comorbidity of these two disorders. There is also little research focused on specific populations,
such as veterans, who experience a high rate of SUD diagnoses generally associated with combat
PTSD. The literature also describes possible rationale for the high rate of... Show more content on

According to Gulliver and Steffen (2010) individuals involved in treatment for symptoms of
PTSD are more likely to meet criteria for a SUD compared to the average person; the same goes
for individuals seeking treatment for a SUD in relation to a potential PTSD diagnosis. It is
important to address the needs of this population (co occurring PTSD and SUD) and develop
effect treatment methods because they often experience more severe symptoms, have lower
functioning in daily activities of living, have poorer sense of wellbeing, poorer physical health,
higher rates of chronic physical pain diagnoses, and worse treatment outcomes (Schafer Najavits,
2007; Gulliver Steffen, 2010). The development of successful and effective treatment for co
occurring PTSD and SUDs has the potential to significantly impact the public health system by
reducing costs associated with untreated or misguided treatment of these two disorders (Gulliver
Steffen, 2010). One challenge to treating this population is due to the lack of clarity as to why
the comorbidity of PTSD and SUDs frequently occur (Meisler, 1996). Gulliver and Steffen (2010)
suggest the causation of co occurrence may be due to concepts of self medication, common
vulnerability to both disorders, or the presence of one disorder increasing the risk or likelihood

Coast Guard Leadership Philosophy
The Leadership Philosophy of Senior Chief Eddie Diaz
Eddie Diaz
Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course #63
I strongly believe everyone is a Leader; we all play an important role in the success or failure of
each other and the Coast Guard. It is my duty as a Coast Guardsman to inspire greatness, develop
a professional workforce, and foster a culture of prosperity poised to overcome today and
tomorrow s challenges, learning from yesterdays successes and failures.
Throughout my career I have been greatly influenced by leaders with remarkable leadership
qualities. A phrase I use often is What do you think . As a young Petty Officer, my supervisor
often used the phrase What do you think . This simplistic phrase was consistently communicated
to me when I asked a question and it assisted me in answering many of my own questions by
leading me to conduct my own research and formulating favorable solutions. My Officer in
Charge at Station Key West was a very caring man, his leadership style and decision making
clearly displayed his commitment to his crew and their families. His ability to connect with each
one of us personally impacted us well passed the traditional military positional leadership model. ...

Taking An Abnormal Psychology Class
Taking an abnormal psychology class is not part of my requirements for my degree, but with my
wanting to work with children and their families, I feel that this course was beneficial for me to
take. I also enjoy learning about how the human mind works, the different disorders, and ways to
help people that may be suffering from the many disorders that we covered. As I have mentioned
throughout the semester, I or someone I know has or is suffering from many of the disorders we
have discussed. I personally have struggled with addiction and bulimia in my past, and I feel that
learning more in depth can assist me in my future if I have a student that also struggles with
similar disorders. My father suffers from schizophrenia, although he attempts to block his
disorder out and refuses medication. This can be extremely hard for both me and my child to
visit him because he is different. I try to remember that the disorder is not his fault and I also try
to remind my daughter that he is her grandfather and she should accept him, but it is a struggle
for both of us. I feel that learning a little more on schizophrenia was helpful for me and I plan on
doing a little more research on my own time to also help me to cope with his differentness .
There was such a variety of topics covered in this course and I wish that I had taken it in a
classroom instead of online. With this online course, I feel like the material went a little too
quickly. If I were in a classroom setting, I feel that

Characteristics Of A Black Leader
I think we should have a black leader it would be better than a white especially Donald trump the
reason why I say this is because the black person that would be our leader can relate to us
because he or she has been through what we have been through and that would be good for that
person to know because they would already know what to do while they are in the seat that s why
we should have a black leader instead of a white one.
I don t think we should have a white leader because he can only relate to their own kind and not
ours also they don t know what we go through except black people and I know trump can t relate to
us if a black person can be our leader that would be great because she of he knows what we have
gone through and she/he is intelligent so he/she knows what to do even more I don t know but I
know one thing is that we need someone who s ready for the job and consequences and when the
time has come. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Shakespeare
In 1564, a man was born by the name of William Shakespeare. He was born to a poor family, was
given little education, and had no interaction with sophisticated society. Thirty eight plays and over
150 sonnets are not attributed to this ignorant man. Those who believe that Shakespeare was the
author have no definitive proof but instead point to Hamlet s declaration: amp;quot; The play s the
thing(Satchell 71). amp;quot; The true author, however, lies hidden behind he name of Shakespeare.
Edward de Vere the premier Earl of Oxfordis not only considered a great poet in history, but he may
also be the great playwright who concocted the sonnets and plays which are now attributed to
William Shakespeare of Stratford, England.

There are many allusions in Shakespeare s plays which de Vere would have been particularly
familiar with. As a child, de Vere was tutored by Arthur Golding, the translator of
Metamorphoses. This literary work was alluded to several times in Shakespearean plays. De Vere
also studied law and traveled across the continent, spending a great deal of time in Italy (Tweedale
12). Many references to Italian art and architecture are also alluded to in Shakespeare s plays.
William Shakespeare of Stratford, however, never left England (Friedman 10).
The author of the Shakespearean plays had to possess a rare knowledge in several disciplines
including physical sciences, medicine, he law, astronomy, and the Bible. Shakes of Stratford
received no formal education with the exception of grammar school through the equivalent of third
grade. De Vere, however, was taught by only the best tutors (Satchell 71). The Shakespearean
plays were also written by one who has had interaction with the aristocracy and understood the
workings of royalty from the inside out (Friedman 10). Although there is no evidence that
Shakespeare moved freely about this society, de Vere was regarded as a amp;quot;brilliant
ornament of Elizabeth s court amp;quot; (Sachmartino 13) and as such would have understood
what it as like to live in the aristocracy.
De Vere s very life is in many ways represented in the plays attributed to Shakespeare of Stratford.

Dating back to the 1920s, the word media has been introduced due to the golden age of American

these technologies. Eventually, people worldwide are influenced by how much these technologies

Pressure Ulcers And A Critical Care Situation
Pressure Ulcer Prevention
Preventing pressure ulcers in an acute care or a critical care situation can be challenging for
nursing staff. Pressure ulcers cause an increase in morbidity and mortality, along with very high
cost for the hospitals. Treatment cost average $11 billion per year in the United States. (Skolnik
M.D. Carcia, D.O., 2015) They cause patient pain and are preventable by all nursing staff. The skin
is the body s largest organ and the first line of defense against the internal and external

Incorporating the use of a cost effective skin care product, daily skin assessments, and staff
education, may be an effective way of managing the healing of skin breakdown in the hospitalized

Reliability
Reliability describes the consistency of a measurement method within a study. (Burns Grove,
2011) In critiquing the reliability of the Brunner et al. (2012) article, the study was completed at
a large urban hospital using three critical care units and two acute care units. The two skin care
products were randomly assigned to the participants. The sample size goal in each group was to
be 100 participants. Results of the study included that only 64 participants were enrolled. The
article written by Brunner et al. (2012) was not reliable for measurement methods. The study is not
described in great detail, does not have evidence of accuracy, and has a lack of participants.
Validity
Validity deals with determining how well the instrument reflects the abstract concept being
examined. (Burns Grove, 2011) In critiquing the validity of the Brunner et al. (2012) article, they
used a quasi experimental, two group study without a control group to conduct their study. Their
study examined two skin care products used to prevent skin breakdown in acute and critical care
patients with various lengths of stay. According to Brunner et al. (2012), nurses approach skin care

The Rise and Fall of the Eugnics Movement Essay
Introduction
According to Merriam Webster.com, eugenics is defined as the theory dealing with the production
or treatment of a fine, healthy race. Despite this seemingly innocent representation, eugenics is an
extremely controversial science. Some even debate whether or not it is worthy of the label of
science, or if it s just a form of intellectual racism. Nevertheless, eugenics was greatly embraced and
was behind a scientific and social revolution during the late 19th century through the Second World
War. This essay will explore the topic of eugenics which has disappeared from today s science
textbooks. This includes a thorough history of the origin of eugenics, the people behind its
movement, as well as its application in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Kevles, 6) Why Galton turned to eugenics is a mystery. He was a mathematician by degree with
little to no experience in biology. He treated the study of eugenics as if it were a statistical
problem, something completely foreign to the field of biology. (Kevles, 13)
Galton believed that a wide range of human characteristics were inherited, including mental,
physical, and moral traits. This view was stimulated in part by Galton s cousin, Charles Darwin,
and his recent work in the field of evolution. Although Darwin didn t play a direct role in
eugenics, he had shown how man, despite his relative complexity as compared to plants and most
animals, was still evolving. Because of this, Galton reasoned that humans could be controlled and
manipulated so that the next generation would be of higher stock. He reasoned that man had been
focusing too much on the evolution of lower level species for too long. So long in fact, that
human defectives [were] increasing at such an alarming rate that, unless some efficient methods
[were] devised for keeping them in check, they [would] endanger the welfare of the entire race.
(Fasten, 283) In the mind of Galton it was essential to fix this problem. He concurred that all
creatures would agree that it was better to be healthy than sick, vigorous than weak, well fitted than
ill fitted for their part in life; in short, that it was

The Invention Of The Assembly Line
Introduction:
The degree of engineering production has substantially increased over the last one hundred years.
There exists numerous reasons why the world has been able to progress so quickly in the last one
hundred years than the few thousand years before. The main answer lies in the invention of the
assembly line. Prior to the assembly line, production rate was dependent on the precision of
specific parts for an item and a worker s ability to assemble the specific parts together. The
assembly line eliminated the idea of a worker who must be trained to build every part of a
machine or item. Instead, the assembly line focused more on small independent jobs for lesser
trained employees. With the assembly line, an employee would ... Show more content on

Henry Ford introduced his Model T in 1908, which astounded the public due to its simplicity and
reliability, according to History.com. While the Model T was inexpensive, Ford didn t find his
product to be as inexpensive as he wanted. Ford challenged himself to find a way to make his
dream of supplying the whole nation with affordable cars a reality. Ford realized that he must
change his methods of production in order to decrease the price of his automobiles. His
invention of the assembly line actually started before the Model T came out, but Ford did not
know it at the time. The Model N was built prior to the Model T. The workers on the Model N
automobiles placed the parts in order along the floor while the under construction auto was on
skids and moved down the line. The workers placed their respective parts on the machine as it
passed by. For the Model T, Ford tried to make his process even better. He broke the assembly
process into 84 small steps. On top of this, workers were trained for only one of the 84 steps. By
having a machine that could make interchangeable parts faster than any human, the process
accelerated quickly and there was no shortage on supplies. With the combination of the new parts
machine, line of workers trained per step, and an order of parts, the assembly line was born.

Rock N Roll In The 1950s
Rock n Roll in the 1950s: The change in America
Music as a whole blends together. One style leads to another, the music becomes more progressive.
It evolves to fit the new generation, leaving the old generation behind. From the spritual songs of
the late 1800s to the gospel of the early 1900s. Then it changed into rhythm and blues, and when the
1950s rolled around it became Rock n Roll. With the invention of new iconic instruments like the
Fender Precision Bass and then the Fender Stratocaster, the sound of the music changed. The sound
that was soft and low was now crunchy and loud. While it did not sit well with the adults, it was a

more defiant, and less conforming. But most of all they hated who played the music. Most of the
musicians and music writers were African American. Even though they had earned the respect of
many people while fighting in WWII, their culture was still shunned by most of the public. But
Rock was all about being insobordinate. The fact that the parents hated it made it even more
popular among the teens. The parents might have had their own little pet names about it calling it

the musicians at the time was that If you were white and played blues you were black once. These

a signboard, and memorial. Carved of large, straight red cedar (type of wood) and painted with
vibrant colours, the totem pole is emblematic of both coastal Aboriginal culture and Northwest
Coast Aboriginal Art Different First Nations have their own methods of designing and carving
totem poles. The Haida, for example, are known to carve creatures with huge eyes, where some
would typically have narrow eyes. The Coast Salish tend to carve representations of people on
their house posts, where others tend to carve supernatural beings on their poles. And all of these
totem poles represent a very special and important parts of an aboriginal person.
In general, however, poles are skilfully carved of wood not stone, and are usually painted black,
red, blue, blue green and sometimes white and yellow. Poles vary in size, but house front poles
can be over one metre in width at the base, reaching heights of over 20 m and generally facing the
shores of rivers or the ocean.
Animal images on totem poles depict creatures from family crests. These crests ... Show more

Red Bull s promotional efforts are unique in a variety of ways when compared to it s mainstream

According to an article written by Natalie Burg, Red Bull appeals to action sports, and they ve
attached themselves to the audience by speaking in the language and formats they are used to,
such as digital videos and media (Burg, N.). They speak to their audience through the new
RedBull.com app which covers action sports, music, e sports, and lifestyle stories; and Red Bull
associates itself with all of these action pact events as a means of conveying that they played a part
in it s success (Burg, N.). The Red Bull marketing team also chose an unlikely promotional program
that thrived off of word of mouth after giving away free cans. Besides using traditional marketing

Research Paper On Violence In Sports
Violence is defined as the use of excessive physical force, which causes or has obvious potential
to cause harm or destruction to an individual. Violence in sports comes in many forms, and divides
into social and cultural factors related to the sport ethic, gender ideology, the dynamics of social
class and race, and the tactics used in sports. Violence in sportshas gone too far because sports
violence has become so severe in sports, that players are injured each years. However, in sports
some violence has become entertaining for the fans and fans would begin their own violence
around with other fans that support opposing teams to win. The violence in sports can cause severe
casualties from collisions to concussions that may result in long term mental or physical damage.
There are many casualties of violence and collisions/concussions in professional sports. The first
common type of violence is body contact. The brutal body contact includes physical practices
common in certain sports and accepted by athletes as part of sport participation. Examples of brutal
body contacts in sports are collisions, hits, tackles, blocks, body checks, and other forms of

##bols And Symbolism In Life Of Pi By Yann Martel
Symbols have been used from the beginning of civilization for communicating basic needs and
used now to provide deep meanings and definitions. Throughout the whole novel, Life of Pi ,
written by Yann Martel, there are many symbols that have been proven to be significant
throughout the novel. Of the many, there are three main symbols that add overall meaning to the
novel: Richard Parker, Algae Island, and the color orange. Firstly, a main symbol in the novel is
Richard Parker, a four hundred fifty pound Bengal Tiger. Richard Parker with the main
protagonist, Piscine Molitor Patel, also known as Pi, come together during a shipwreck and
endure over two hundred days of hardship on a lifeboat, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Pi is...

his life and lost the will to live, which later changes in the novel. Eventually, he finds land called
Algae Island after days on the lifeboat. Religion is a worship or belief of a superhuman controlling
power, like God. Algae Island symbolizes religion. In the beginning, when Pi was on the lifeboat he
did not have the will to survive and wanted to do find land with fresh food and drinks. He was
calling all his gods for help. Before finding Algae Island, he says, It s no use. Today I die. I will die

it was an illusion. ... They grew to be a forest... a low lying island. I pushed myself up. I
continued to disbelieve my eyes ... The trees were beautiful. (Martel 140). Pi was hoping to find
land and finally did. He felt safe at the Algae Island. People turn to religion for safety and for a
normal life, Pi felt safe and normal when he was in Algae Island. People hope to get guidance
and help during their toughest time and for Pi, he comes across this land in the most time of

UK s Main Electoral System and Should It Be Reformed Essay...
UK s Main Electoral System and Should It Be Reformed
Over the years Britain s pluralist electoral system has been scrutinised by many political and
pressure groups, such as the Liberal Democrats and the Electoral Reform Society. In their 1997
Manifesto, the Labour Party did state that they would look into the matter, by holding a
referendum on the issue, however there was no change as Labour had a large majority in 1997 and
Labour has preformed disappointingly in elections where Proportional Representation had been
used. The main electoral system in the UK should be reformed because the first past the post
system does not represent the electorate in a democratic manner. It also under represents ... Show

The system is also disproportionate, an example of this is can be shown in a study of the 2001
General Election.
From the 2001 General Election results, we can deliberately see that through our pluralist
electoral system, the system is disproportionate. We can see many examples of this]. The
percentage of votes to the percentage of seats is unequal, showing how its seats not votes that
count, and judging by labour s landslide victory. In fact, we can see that Labour did not even
gain a majority from voters but only from seats. Another example is the Liberal Democrats; they
received 18.3% of the electorate s votes, but only received less than half the percentage of seats
at 7.9%. Labour also received a mere 9% more votes than the Conservatives, but yet still
managed to acquire around 247 more seats. This also shows that some parties, especially Labour
in the 2001 elections, are over represented and this can lead eventually lead to a dangerous one
party system , which certainly undermines our ideology of a Democracy. On average 70% of
votes are also wasted during a single election. We find that 100.0% of votes are accounted for, only
40.7% actually counted, therefore, votes a drastically wasted.

The Role of the Logistician in Defense Acquisitions
Instructor:
ABSTRACT
This paper will describe the role of the logistician throughout United States Department of Defense
acquisition programs and strategies. It will be chronologically approached from design, planning,
demonstration, refinement and sustainment phases. The role of the logistician will be characterized
as paramount to the overall success of acquisition efforts and ultimate success of our fighting men

This will aid the logistician in the development of support resources and strategies. Logisticians,
using customer input from the warfighters requirements documents, must participate in the
development of the most cost effective method to support the system while allowing optimal
performance of the mission. This responsibility entails the greatest effort to ensure that all the
needed elements of support (technical manuals, spare parts, facilities, training, support equipment,
etc.) are developed and delivered to the customer within budget constraints. The logistics element of
maintenance planning is the most critical factor in influencing both supportability design
characteristics and support resource requirements. It is the process of arranging in an orderly
manner, all elements of maintenance support necessary to keep systems and equipment ready to
perform assigned missions. Of all the noteworthy elements of logistics support, maintenance
planning tends to be the one element that has the greatest influence on the other support elements
as well as on the actual design of the end item. It is imperative that the user identifies a maintenance
concept as soon as possible, preferably in the conceptual study phase, and that the acquisition
community scrutinizes the concept for feasibility and affordability. Supportability is a design
characteristic that requires an early focus during maintenance planning to identify support

The problems of Intellectual Property Rights In China
Abstract After Deng Xiaoping s reform and opening up policy in 1978, China recorded an annual
average growth rate of 9.67 percent in China. This is approximately three times higher than the
average annual growth rate of global economy which is 3.3% within the same period. Past 29
years, due to rapid growth rate, China ranked the 2nd in trade volume and size of economy.
However, many side effects are appeared due to the rapid economic growth. This study will
measure what is the current state of the world s counterfeit goods market, why people violate the
IPR protection and produce counterfeit goods, what is the problem of IPR law enforcements and
how violating law and producing counterfeit goods in China influence the world.
Introduction Both economically and socially, influence of China is substantial. Economic and
social status of China is firm that it can not be oversighted. However, intellectual property rights
have been rising issues in China. First step to solve the problem is realize there is one. It is
critical to recognize which elements are violating IPR. Basic systematic error of IPR and
counterfeit culture in China are main factors for the obstacles.

Implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) began on January 1,

provisions of the NAFTA were fully implemented on January 1, 2008. With full implementation, the

Mexico of corn, dry edible beans, nonfat dry milk and high fructose corn syrup and Mexican

This concept was carried over into the NAFTA. Chapter 8 of the NAFTA permits, under specified
conditions, the parties to impose a temporary, emergency safeguard measure that is, an increase in
the tariff to the prevailing MFN level in the event imports cause, or threaten to cause, serious injury
to domestic producers. In 2008, a NAFTA partner could, assuming the associated conditions are
satisfied, invoke a Chapter 8 safeguard provision until 1 year following full implementation of the
NAFTA commitments, i.e., until January 1, 2009. Beyond January 1, 2009, the NAFTA Partner
could maintain a safeguard arrangement only with the consent of the Party against whose good the
action would be taken. (Teslik)

Plath in Ariel and Larkin in The Whitsun Weddings both explore ideas about love and

the journey that takes place prior to marriage; the poem was written about Larkin s observation of

traditionally the day on which people would get married. The Whitsun Weddings takes on a

This quote demonstrates the superficial nature of marriage and its lack of true meaning. The use
of anatomical imagery gives the poem an eerie aspect and leads the reader to wonder whether
marriage is really about love or in fact about meeting a set criteria and conforming to society s
view on acceptable relationships which during the sixties was somewhat narrow, although it
was post sexual revolution there was still a lot more work to be done in terms of eradicating
stigma. The use of the first person plural our in the first line suggests to the reader that the
persona is not one entity but perhaps, the voice and the collective conscience of society. In the
Whitsun Weddings Larkin documents his observations whilst aboard a train on Whit Sunday (a
day on which it was common for people to get married). Larkin conveys his ideas about
relationships from the poem s inception; That Whitsun I was late getting away . The use of the
first person pronoun I suggests that Larkin was planning a get away by himself and is happy in his
own company, which may be viewed as somewhat strange considering that bank holidays are often
times to go away with family or significant others; this ties into his lack of interest in marriage and

the United States of America. The cover was illustrated in 2001 by Gerald Purnell and was
designed by Larry Didona. I choose this book because it is something children face every day.
The Bully is a story about a boy named Darrell Mercel who lives in Philadelphia with his mom. In
Philadelphia, he had a best friend named Mark that would always help him when he had a... Show

The first Friday of New Year, Darrell didn t want to go to the supermarket parking lot to met
Tyray because he didn t want to be scared of Tyray. He decided that he didn t want pay to him
again. At school, Tyray came and asked Darrell about his money, but the teacher came in so
Tyray went away. When they went to eat lunch, Tyray and Darrell started fighting and then
Tyray was crying because he broke his wrist. Finally, they were both sent to the principal office.
At that time, Darrell told the principal what happened. In conclusion, Tyray got suspended and
Darrell got a warning. There was this big fight between the two main characters Darrell and
Tyray. Most fights normally go both ways but this particular fight was strangely one sided. Tyray.
The excitement from this scene is clearly the fight itself and because of the irony of the situation.
The irony was that the Darrell was untouchable in a fight against the bully. Constantly being
laughed at and clowned by your peers can get very frustrating and unbearable. Darrell didn t
receive any respect from hardly anyone in school because he was labeled as a punk from not
retaliating to Tyrays foolishness. This conflict led to Darrell taking martial arts classes, learning a
myriad of moves and techniques, and displaying them in the final altercation between him and
Tyray. Darrell had to overcome his struggles with a bully named Tyray. What made this

Interviewing a Friend
Humans are complex and intricate beings. They think, behave and look different. They are
different in their personalities and attitudes; and their way of thinking and behaving also differ. I
have found in my experience that the best way to know others is to interact and to socialize. My
life has been filled with lots of people with whom I have interacted and who have taught me a
valuable lesson. When thinking of people that I have come across in my life, I thoughtof
interviewing one of my classmates from English class.
I got an opportunity to interview my classmate Mr. Nabaraj Kandel. He is 19 years old. He is a
very hardworking individualist who was born in a small village called Gulmi but was raised in
Kathmandu, Nepal. Nabaraj spent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is religious and also superstitious. He believes in afterlife and reincarnation. He thinks life
comes from another life. While interviewing him, I found many things common in between him
and me. One of those was the cultural shock that we experienced in the United States. Besides, both
of us seem to have more or less same kind of experiences in the United States. We talked about
our visit to cities like Atlanta, Dallas, New Orleans. We also discussed about our interest in
sports and music. It was really a good conversation. But there was one thing about which we had
different opinions. And it was all about politics. I don t get involved in politics. I like to stay
away from it. But he likes politics. He likes writing articles on social and political issues. I feel
his opinion is very true in his sense. I hate politics because most of the politicians in our country
are corrupt and work for their own benefits.
I had a great time interviewing Nabaraj. I am glad that I got an opportunity to talk to someone
who is an international student like me and is from my own country, Nepal. The interview with
him made me realize that I should really need to work on some of the principles of his life. I would
also suggest other people that I come across in my life to follow these

Reverse Discrimination In The United States
Lately the United States media has been focused on the unfair treatment many people receive based
on their skin tone, whether it is the recent police brutality against African Americans or the focuses
the 2018 presidential election has put on illegal immigration. Unfortunately the media has avidly
avoided any subject that may be considered reverse discriminationalso known as reverse racism.
Reverse discrimination is a phenomenon in which members of majority groups receive unfair
treatment in attempt to remedy earlier discrimination against minorities. Many people believe that
reverse discrimination is becoming more prevalent part of modern society, by creating equal
opportunity s this issue can be easily reduced.
Reverse discrimination has become a joke with in many minority communities, approximately
seven in ten black (74%) and Hispanic Americans (70%) do not believe discrimination against
whites is as big of a problem as discrimination against other groups (Public Religion Research
Institute 38). This is because many people hold the opinion that only minorities can be
discriminated against. According to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Race ...

Wee Bag Band
On an average Friday night, O Kelly s Irish Pub on U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is
filled to the brim with service members and civilians alike. In the midst of the noise and
commotion, sweet notes weave its way through the crowded space slowly drawing the attention
of the crowd. As the crowd quiets to hear the song, the band bursts into a lively Irish jig, starting
off the set with excitement. The Wee Bag Band played March 18 at O Kelly s Irish Pub as a part
of their third tour with Armed Forces Entertainment. It s very kind to be invited back; we believe
it is the first time that the band has been invited back three times, said Paul Strummer, a guitarist

We didn t expect people to be up close to the band and singing along. It looked like everyone had
a really good time. I really enjoy having live music, said Joshua Hanna, a core man with the

music: traditional, which consists of the old tunes of long ago, popular Irish music and
contemporary Celtic music. The Wee Bag Band strives to play a mix of all of the genres. On the
bands website, it stated the charm of Irish music lies in its ability to appeal to people of all ages;
this is an essential part of its spirit and allure. People enjoy Irish music, said Strummer. We
would like to say our music is non generational. It covers all ages, they (the audience) come to
enjoy it and dance, and if they do, it encourages us to go harder and faster. According to the band s
website, their music is Thrash Paddy meets Jed Clampit. These gentlemen are lively and full of

Cheerleading Injuries
According to Dictionary.com, the definition of sport is an athletic activity that requires physical
prowess or skill and often a competitive nature; so by that definition, cheerleading is a sport
(Popoloski). Cheerleading is defined as a sport because it meets the requirements of a sport:
competitive physical exertion and chance of injury.
Due to the fact that cheerleaders can become greatly injured from cheerleading like other athletic
activities that are said to be sports proves that cheerleading is a sport (Tanner). Injuries can be
caused by a variety of things such as, tumbling, flyers and bases hitting the ground after
performing a risky stunt and even people colliding. USA Today states that The American Medical
Association says cheerleading should be considered a sport because of its rigors and risks
(Tanner). Since a medical association is stating how dangerous and rigorous cheerleading is, their
belief on whether or not cheer should be considered a sport is very credible. AMA continues to
support its claim that cheerleading should be a sport by stating other facts. Also, the National
Center for Catastrophic Sport Injury Research said that cheerleading is actually the number one
cause of serious sports injuries to women ( TeenInk ). Statistically speaking the National Center for
Catastrophic Sport Injury Research should be rather accurate on their findings on injuries in ... Show

Pros And Cons Of The Fifth Amendment
Heritage Essay 2nd Rough Draft The death penalty is not only constitutional, it is a necessary part
of the American judicial system. In America, the death penalty is issued to those found guilty of a
capital offence with aggravating circumstances. These aggravating circumstances can include
murder with a kidnapping or murder commited to avoid arrest. This is, to ensure that the death
penalty is only dealt to those that truly have committed grave crimes. The Fifth Amendment of the
Constitution guarantees that a person will not be, deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due
process of law (US Const. Amend. V). The Eighth Amendment guarantees that, cruel and unusual
punishments (US Const. Amend. XIII) will not be inflicted on convicted criminals. The death
penalty does not oppose these amendments because of they way they were specifically written. The
Fifth Amendment specifically states, without due process of law (US Const. Amend. V). This is
written very particularly to mean that with, due process of law (US Const. Amend. V) the rights
that have been guaranteed in this amendment can be taken from a person. The writers of the
constitutional meticulously wrote this in such a way so that the rights of a tried and convicted
criminal can be rescinded. This means that the death penalty, when given to a tried and convicted
criminal, does not violate the Fifth Amendment. The writers of the Constitution wrote it such that it
did not invalidate the date penalty.

Analysis Of Fast Times At Ridgemont High
In Fast Times at Ridgemont High, characters engage in many expressive relationships that
weaken the status hierarchy often found in the high school setting. The mall is the common
gathering place for characters outside of school, and status relations are easily visible here
(Heckerling, 1982). Since the mall is such an integral part of the film, one witnesses the shift of
status relations over time. According to a 2000 study, For these young people the mall was a
social magnet that drew them away from the hassles encountered at home and school towards a
haven of warmth and safety. He describes the mall as a kind of neutral ground (Matthews, 2000).
Mark Rat Ratner works in the mall as assistant to the assistant manager at the movie theater, which
is clearly not the most prestigious job on that side of the mall. Stacy Hamilton, on the other hand,
works at Perry s Pizza Parlor, a seemingly higher ranked job. With a bit of help from Damone,
however, Mark approaches Stacy at the mall to ask her on a date. This begins the friendship and
future romance between them, establishing an expressive relationship that connects the slightly
awkward Mark to the popular Stacy. The strict status hierarchy associated with high schools is
diminished when popular individuals like Stacy do not mind interacting with and creating strong
relationships with those viewed as less popular, such as Mark. Additionally, Stacy s brother Brad
contributes to the deconstruction of status relations. A

The Role of Technology in National Development
FEATURE The Role of Technology in National Development Emmanuel O. Egbogah Executive
Chairman Emerald Energy Resources F rom the beginning of time, man has strived to improve
his way and quality of life. The caveman discovered how to make and use tools, developed a
logical sequence for activities, and evolved processes that added value to his life. The totality of
the use and application of his knowledge, skills, tools, and materials constitutes what we today

A technology partnership was not a standard contract format but a philosophy, an attitude toward a
relationship, and a system that could be structured into a wide range of formats. The philosophy
was to create collaboration between Petronas Carigali and vendor service companies to work in
integrated teams applying technology to a Carigali project. Instead of direct purchase of any
purveyor s technology, Petronas proposed applying the technology to the project, during which time
Petronas Carigali would pay for the cost of contractor s staff participation plus the cost of acquiring
the technology, but only at the successful completion of the project. The process would allow
Petronas staff who participated in the project to gradually learn the technology, which resulted in
effective technology transfer. The oil industry plan was integrated into the Malaysian National

Teenage Life Essay
People who are nostalgic about childhood, were obviously never children. Few people can
remember the truth about adolescence. Their minds quot;censor quot; their memories; and have
them believe that being a teenager was was one big party, free of cares and responsibilities. Well
let me say this, you couldnOt be more wrong if you had a lobotomy. There aren t that many adults
around who realise what adolescence was really like. The anguish, the fear, the anxiety, the stress.
People don t remember those problems because they want to forget them. The truth of the matter
is, is that being a teenager is hard, right from the beginning, and it doesn t get any easier. We are

There are thousands of poems floating around written by bitter or depressed teenagers that are
never recognised as works of art. Another form of escape for teenagers is, unfortunately, suicide.
It is alarming how high the teen suicide rates have risen over the past decade. Yet, it is
comforting that there are support groups and counsellors available now to aid teens through their
troubles. Because no one wants to see a life full of promise and potential end abruptly because of
a little sorrow in one kid s life. Another reason for teen suicide is their home life. The teenager gets
caught in the middle of an argument between their parents, and they take the blame personally. This
is not right. Sometimes the child is beaten or abused and is forced to run away into the streets,
where they become homeless, and sometimes abducted. Sometimes they just die in a back alley
during a cold winterOs night, and they are never missed. At sixteen, a teenager knows about
suffering, because he himself has suffered, but he barely knows that other beings also suffer.
Although, some teenagers face their problems. They plod along through school. Some of them get
after school or weekend jobs. They learn responsibility. Eventually, they enter adulthood and the
work force. Successful, confident, and eager to work. They lead their lives using the knowledge
they swallowed throughout their education and the power they gained. But not long after, they

Animorph Chapter 1 Passage Analysis
I chose a passage in Animorphs #5, page 45, randomly to see what I could do with this exercise.
The passage read;
Jake s face seemed to open up, to split open into a complex mess of valves. I think I would have
thrown up, seeing that. Except that I, also, no longer had a mouth.
At that very moment, I felt antennae explode from my forehead like impossibly long spears. l was
shrinking as I morphed, falling, falling, falling down into the water which had been around my
thighs and was now around my neck.
I had the terrifying sensation of knowing that all the bones inside my body were dissolving, as a
hard, fingernail like crust covered me all over.
My human body was melting away.
My human vision was fading. I could no longer see the way a human

The Importance of Ecosystem Management and Protection.
Recent growth in scientific knowledge has helped humanity comprehend the complex relationships
in ecosystems and the devastating effects of human interference. As a result we have become

their utility, genetic, intrinsic and heritage values and also for the need to allow natural change and
thus evolution to take place. Natural ecosystems have provided much that has been of benefit to
humanity and with careful protectionit can last for many more generations. Management strategies

As seen in numerous examples where wild varieties of species have been crossbred with
cultivated varieties to obtain disease resistant or high crop yielding new varieties, without the
genetic diversity available, none of it would be possible. In 1860 s the European vineyards were
completely destroyed by phylloxera but later grafting with an American species led to a variety
resistant to the disease. Also Indian rice was discovered to be resistant to two viruses and after
implementation, led to an improved yield on 30million hectares in Asia. A single gene from a
barley growing in Ethiopia protects the entire Californian barley crop worth $US 150million/yr
from the yellow dwarf disease.
It can be seen that there are linked crossovers between reasons for management and the
usefulness of ecosystems. Wild strains of species, many as of yet undiscovered, have desirable
properties, such as disease resistance and increased crop yield, which tend to be lost in
successive generations with selective breeding under artificial conditions. Natural ecosystems
should be maintained so as new genes can be added from the wild populations to keep crops
resistant to diseases which continue to develop new strains. The ecosystems also may yield new
species of plants and animals suitable for use in cultivation and grazing. Examples include red
deer, the loblolly pine and kiwi fruit that have recently been added to agriculture and forestry
economic lists. The merino sheep variety is

  • 2. The Flat Earth Theory Advancements in communication via channels such as the internet have allowed for many false scientific theories to become increasingly popular in today s society. These theories have become widespread and intertwined with common beliefs to the point where many of them are now synonymous with actual theories. The flat earth theory is a claim that suggests the earth isn t a three dimensional sphere, but instead a flat, two dimensional circle (Flat Earth). The theory of plate tectonicsoutlines how continental drift occurs as a result of the lithosphere consisting of plates that are able to move along on top of the asthenosphere as well as what occurs in the mantle to cause the formation of these plates (Van Andel and Murphy, 1). Pseudoscientific ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When plate tectonic theory was first conceived with the continental drift theory in 1919, there was some controversy regarding the evidence found and the theory was not accepted. Many distinguished scientists including Harold Jeffreys believed that the new theory was false and refused to lend it support. However, evidence had been found by the 1960 s that showed oceanic crust is magnetic and could therefore confirm seafloor spreading, and continental drift (Richardson). On the other hand, the Bedford Level Experiment can be used to show the limitations of the flat earth theory again, as it showed that proponents of the theory refused to believe that it was incorrect. Instead of trying to reconfirm this data through proper research or conducting a similar experiment somewhere else in the world, believers of a flat earth denied the unsupportive evidence and clung to the few supportive points they had (Richardson). By being critical of one s own theory and actively searching for both supportive and unsupportive evidence, scientific theories can be strengthened and advanced. Oppositely, theories of pseudoscience are forgotten and become irrelevant as time goes on because of the search for selective evidence and minimal effort in trying to disprove them. This characteristic allows legitimate scientific theories to be easily identified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Separate Spheres There was no equality between man and woman in the Victorian era. The patriarchic system was the norm and women usually led a more secluded, private life. Men, on the other hand, possessed all kinds of freedom ( Gender Roles ). Moreover, the man was naturally the head of the family and the guardian of family members. He was the protector and the lord. He was strong, brave and hard working ( GenderRoles ). The Victorian erawas the time in which the roles of men and women were defined more strictly than at any other time in history. The Victorians considered males and females as Separate Spheres that met only during meals. According to Hughes, the ideology of Separate Spheres rested on a definition of the natural characteristics of women and men. Women were considered physically weaker yet morally superior to men, what meant that they were best suited to the domestic sphere ( Gender roles in the 19th century ). The fact that womanwas morally superior to man led to the belief that her goal was to bear many children and maintain a home that her husband did not have to worry about (berryofthesea). What is surprising is the fact that even though women were perceived as morally superior, they could neither vote nor sue.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Hughes, women were assumed to desire marriage because it allowed them to become mothers rather than to pursue sexual or emotional satisfaction ( Gender roles in the 19th century ). It was a common practice in the Victorian era that young men used the services of prostitutes, while women had to be pure and clean until marriage. Moreover, women were not even allowed to speak to men unless there was a married woman present as a chaperone (Hughes). The inequality is also evident in the fact that women were expected to have sex with only one man, their husband. However, it was acceptable for men to have multiple partners in their life (Cody ... • 5. Analysis Of Safe Is In The Brain Of The Beholder Amidst all of the tumultuous violence and controversy that prevalent in today s society, it is no wonder individuals turn to their comfort zones at the end of a hectic day. Most people students and workforce members alike feel it necessary to hole up in their safe space to escape and rejuvenate so that they can put their best foot forward the next day. Lee Burdette Williams explores this concept of safe spaces through a variety of points in her article Safe is in the Brain of the Beholder . In opposition to the Dean of the University of Chicago, she encourages people to look past their own beliefs, and attempt to understand the needs of others, whatever they may be. Throughout her article, Williams employs common sense tactics as well... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout Williams s article, she uses logos in multiple contexts to support her main arguments. One area readers encounter logical appeals is when the author refers to a point made by theorists William Cross, Robert Kegan, and Marcia Magolda. Each provide support for the idea that growth eventually occurs in all individuals. However, they also maintain that this growth does not happen at the same time for everyone. Individuals grow with time, increased maturity, and life experience. Most importantly, students grow at their own pace. To extend this point, the theorists emphasize that with time, individuals learn to separate their beliefs from who they actually are. By doing so, they are able to recognize that the opinions of others are not definitive of who they are, resulting in an increased tolerance for and ability to understand others. In the words of Williams (2016), We move from being our relationships to having our relationships, from being our beliefs to having our beliefs, from being our identities to having our identities. This statement is crucial, because although opinions and beliefs are a part of our identity, they do not make up our entire being. Additionally, science and theory are used in an attempt to appeal to readers logically when Williams references proven neurological fact that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Secular Humanism Rejects The Idea And Existence Of God Secular humanism rejects the idea and existence of God. It is a philosophy of life, which views that humans are the supreme beings of the universe. They believe that the creation of the universe and life is an incredible coincidence. They believe that human existence is fully explained without any references to spiritual occurrences. Secular humanists have no religion and reject the idea of faith and spirituality. They believe that science is the only source of knowledge and reveals the laws of nature and is measurable. Does God exist? Catholic view Through out history people have believed in God and have practiced religion. Religion provides meaning for people and it helps people answer the existential questions of life and also gives people a purpose bigger than their own. Christians believe that God shows us the way to meaning and purpose. There are three arguments for the existence of god the ontological, cosmological and religious experience. Ontological argument is for God is based on the ideas about nature of being, existence and reality. This argument is based entirely on reason. You shouldn t have to go out and looking for physical evidence that God existence we can work out that God exists just by thinking about it. According to this argument God is perfection. God is all powerful and something can t be called God unless it is perfect. Aquinas who was one of the greatest Christian theologians explains the cosmological explanation. • 10. Effective Intervention Methods Used For The Treatment Of... Abstract This literature review briefly examines the scholarly journal articles and research cited above. The aim of these articles were to identify the effective intervention methods used for the treatment of co occurring posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and substance use disorders (SUD). Although there is much evidence to support the high rate of individuals who experience symptoms of or are diagnosed with both PTSD and a SUD, there is little known about the comorbidity of these two disorders. There is also little research focused on specific populations, such as veterans, who experience a high rate of SUD diagnoses generally associated with combat PTSD. The literature also describes possible rationale for the high rate of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Gulliver and Steffen (2010) individuals involved in treatment for symptoms of PTSD are more likely to meet criteria for a SUD compared to the average person; the same goes for individuals seeking treatment for a SUD in relation to a potential PTSD diagnosis. It is important to address the needs of this population (co occurring PTSD and SUD) and develop effect treatment methods because they often experience more severe symptoms, have lower functioning in daily activities of living, have poorer sense of wellbeing, poorer physical health, higher rates of chronic physical pain diagnoses, and worse treatment outcomes (Schafer Najavits, 2007; Gulliver Steffen, 2010). The development of successful and effective treatment for co occurring PTSD and SUDs has the potential to significantly impact the public health system by reducing costs associated with untreated or misguided treatment of these two disorders (Gulliver Steffen, 2010). One challenge to treating this population is due to the lack of clarity as to why the comorbidity of PTSD and SUDs frequently occur (Meisler, 1996). Gulliver and Steffen (2010) suggest the causation of co occurrence may be due to concepts of self medication, common vulnerability to both disorders, or the presence of one disorder increasing the risk or likelihood ... Coast Guard Leadership Philosophy The Leadership Philosophy of Senior Chief Eddie Diaz Eddie Diaz Coast Guard Senior Enlisted Leadership Course #63 I strongly believe everyone is a Leader; we all play an important role in the success or failure of each other and the Coast Guard. It is my duty as a Coast Guardsman to inspire greatness, develop a professional workforce, and foster a culture of prosperity poised to overcome today and tomorrow s challenges, learning from yesterdays successes and failures. Throughout my career I have been greatly influenced by leaders with remarkable leadership qualities. A phrase I use often is What do you think . As a young Petty Officer, my supervisor often used the phrase What do you think . This simplistic phrase was consistently communicated to me when I asked a question and it assisted me in answering many of my own questions by leading me to conduct my own research and formulating favorable solutions. • 12. Taking An Abnormal Psychology Class Taking an abnormal psychology class is not part of my requirements for my degree, but with my wanting to work with children and their families, I feel that this course was beneficial for me to take. I also enjoy learning about how the human mind works, the different disorders, and ways to help people that may be suffering from the many disorders that we covered. As I have mentioned throughout the semester, I or someone I know has or is suffering from many of the disorders we have discussed. I personally have struggled with addiction and bulimia in my past, and I feel that learning more in depth can assist me in my future if I have a student that also struggles with similar disorders. My father suffers from schizophrenia, although he attempts to block his disorder out and refuses medication. This can be extremely hard for both me and my child to visit him because he is different. I try to remember that the disorder is not his fault and I also try to remind my daughter that he is her grandfather and she should accept him, but it is a struggle for both of us. I feel that learning a little more on schizophrenia was helpful for me and I plan on doing a little more research on my own time to also help me to cope with his differentness . There was such a variety of topics covered in this course and I wish that I had taken it in a classroom instead of online. With this online course, I feel like the material went a little too quickly. Characteristics Of A Black Leader I think we should have a black leader it would be better than a white especially Donald trump the reason why I say this is because the black person that would be our leader can relate to us because he or she has been through what we have been through and that would be good for that person to know because they would already know what to do while they are in the seat that s why we should have a black leader instead of a white one. I don t think we should have a white leader because he can only relate to their own kind and not ours also they don t know what we go through except black people and I know trump can t relate to us if a black person can be our leader that would be great because she of he knows what we have gone through and she/he is intelligent so he/she knows what to do even more I don t know but I know one thing is that we need someone who s ready for the job and consequences and when the time has come. ... Thirty eight plays and over 150 sonnets are not attributed to this ignorant man. Those who believe that Shakespeare was the author have no definitive proof but instead point to Hamlet s declaration: amp;quot; The play s the thing(Satchell 71). amp;quot; The true author, however, lies hidden behind he name of Shakespeare. Edward de Vere the premier Earl of Oxfordis not only considered a great poet in history, but he may also be the great playwright who concocted the sonnets and plays which are now attributed to William Shakespeare of Stratford, England. Edward de Vere... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many allusions in Shakespeare s plays which de Vere would have been particularly familiar with. As a child, de Vere was tutored by Arthur Golding, the translator of Metamorphoses. This literary work was alluded to several times in Shakespearean plays. De Vere also studied law and traveled across the continent, spending a great deal of time in Italy (Tweedale 12). Many references to Italian art and architecture are also alluded to in Shakespeare s plays. William Shakespeare of Stratford, however, never left England (Friedman 10). The author of the Shakespearean plays had to possess a rare knowledge in several disciplines including physical sciences, medicine, he law, astronomy, and the Bible. Shakes of Stratford received no formal education with the exception of grammar school through the equivalent of third grade. De Vere, however, was taught by only the best tutors (Satchell 71). The Shakespearean plays were also written by one who has had interaction with the aristocracy and understood the workings of royalty from the inside out (Friedman 10). Although there is no evidence that Shakespeare moved freely about this society, de Vere was regarded as a amp;quot;brilliant ornament of Elizabeth s court amp;quot; (Sachmartino 13) and as such would have understood what it as like to live in the aristocracy. Pressure ulcers cause an increase in morbidity and mortality, along with very high cost for the hospitals. Treatment cost average $11 billion per year in the United States. (Skolnik M.D. Carcia, D.O., 2015) They cause patient pain and are preventable by all nursing staff. The sample size goal in each group was to be 100 participants. Results of the study included that only 64 participants were enrolled. The article written by Brunner et al. • 17. The Rise and Fall of the Eugnics Movement Essay Introduction According to Merriam Webster.com, eugenics is defined as the theory dealing with the production or treatment of a fine, healthy race. Despite this seemingly innocent representation, eugenics is an extremely controversial science. Some even debate whether or not it is worthy of the label of science, or if it s just a form of intellectual racism. Nevertheless, eugenics was greatly embraced and was behind a scientific and social revolution during the late 19th century through the Second World War. This essay will explore the topic of eugenics which has disappeared from today s science textbooks. This includes a thorough history of the origin of eugenics, the people behind its movement, as well as its application in society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Kevles, 6) Why Galton turned to eugenics is a mystery. He was a mathematician by degree with little to no experience in biology. He treated the study of eugenics as if it were a statistical problem, something completely foreign to the field of biology. (Kevles, 13) Galton believed that a wide range of human characteristics were inherited, including mental, physical, and moral traits. This view was stimulated in part by Galton s cousin, Charles Darwin, and his recent work in the field of evolution. Although Darwin didn t play a direct role in eugenics, he had shown how man, despite his relative complexity as compared to plants and most animals, was still evolving. Because of this, Galton reasoned that humans could be controlled and manipulated so that the next generation would be of higher stock. He reasoned that man had been focusing too much on the evolution of lower level species for too long. So long in fact, that human defectives [were] increasing at such an alarming rate that, unless some efficient methods [were] devised for keeping them in check, they [would] endanger the welfare of the entire race. (Fasten, 283) In the mind of Galton it was essential to fix this problem. There exists numerous reasons why the world has been able to progress so quickly in the last one hundred years than the few thousand years before. The main answer lies in the invention of the assembly line. Prior to the assembly line, production rate was dependent on the precision of specific parts for an item and a worker s ability to assemble the specific parts together. The assembly line eliminated the idea of a worker who must be trained to build every part of a machine or item. Instead, the assembly line focused more on small independent jobs for lesser trained employees. With the assembly line, an employee would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry Ford introduced his Model T in 1908, which astounded the public due to its simplicity and reliability, according to History.com. While the Model T was inexpensive, Ford didn t find his product to be as inexpensive as he wanted. Ford challenged himself to find a way to make his dream of supplying the whole nation with affordable cars a reality. Ford realized that he must change his methods of production in order to decrease the price of his automobiles. His invention of the assembly line actually started before the Model T came out, but Ford did not know it at the time. The Model N was built prior to the Model T. The workers on the Model N automobiles placed the parts in order along the floor while the under construction auto was on skids and moved down the line. The workers placed their respective parts on the machine as it passed by. For the Model T, Ford tried to make his process even better. He broke the assembly process into 84 small steps. On top of this, workers were trained for only one of the 84 steps. By having a machine that could make interchangeable parts faster than any human, the process accelerated quickly and there was no shortage on supplies. With the combination of the new parts machine, line of workers trained per step, and an order of parts, the assembly line was born. The percentage of votes to the percentage of seats is unequal, showing how its seats not votes that count, and judging by labour s landslide victory. In fact, we can see that Labour did not even gain a majority from voters but only from seats. Another example is the Liberal Democrats; they received 18.3% of the electorate s votes, but only received less than half the percentage of seats at 7.9%. Labour also received a mere 9% more votes than the Conservatives, but yet still managed to acquire around 247 more seats. This also shows that some parties, especially Labour in the 2001 elections, are over represented and this can lead eventually lead to a dangerous one party system , which certainly undermines our ideology of a Democracy. In the process of looking for a fight he loses quite a few men to the Cyclops, and after escaping continues to egg polyphemus on by yelling in triumph at the Cyclops. Which almost leads to the crews demise. After the Cyclops defeat Odysseusboasts, O Cyclops! Would you feast on my companions?... How do you like the beating we gave you, you damned cannibal? This demonstrates Odysseus being a dreadful leader because he puts his men into the danger of being killed by the Cyclops, and risking their lives by proudly boasting to Polyphemus after himself and the crew have already escaped.... After leaving Aeolia for a second time, Odysseus and his men are attacked by gigantic cannibals and escape to the home of the enchantress and goddess Circe. Essay on North American Free Trade Agreement NAFTA NAFTA: North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) began on January 1, 1994, and is one of the United States most significant regional trade agreements. With full implementation, the last remaining trade restriction on a handful of agricultural commodities such as U.S. exports to Mexico of corn, dry edible beans, nonfat dry milk and high fructose corn syrup and Mexican exports to the United States of sugar and certain horticultural products are now removed. In 2008, a NAFTA partner could, assuming the associated conditions are satisfied, invoke a Chapter 8 safeguard provision until 1 year following full implementation of the NAFTA commitments, i.e., until January 1, 2009. Beyond January 1, 2009, the NAFTA Partner could maintain a safeguard arrangement only with the consent of the Party against whose good the action would be taken. The Whitsun Weddings explores the theme of love and relationships by capturing the journey that takes place prior to marriage; the poem was written about Larkin s observation of marriage parties on whit Sunday (now known as May Day) which was a public holiday and was traditionally the day on which people would get married. The use of anatomical imagery gives the poem an eerie aspect and leads the reader to wonder whether marriage is really about love or in fact about meeting a set criteria and conforming to society s view on acceptable relationships which during the sixties was somewhat narrow, although it was post sexual revolution there was still a lot more work to be done in terms of eradicating stigma. The use of the first person plural our in the first line suggests to the reader that the persona is not one entity but perhaps, the voice and the collective conscience of society. In the Whitsun Weddings Larkin documents his observations whilst aboard a train on Whit Sunday (a day on which it was common for people to get married). Larkin conveys his ideas about relationships from the poem s inception; That Whitsun I was late getting away . The use of the first person pronoun I suggests that Larkin was planning a get away by himself and is happy in his own company, which may be viewed as somewhat strange considering that bank holidays are often times to go away with family or significant others; this ties into his lack of interest in marriage and traditional family structures ... • 45. Pros And Cons Of The Fifth Amendment Heritage Essay 2nd Rough Draft The death penalty is not only constitutional, it is a necessary part of the American judicial system. In America, the death penalty is issued to those found guilty of a capital offence with aggravating circumstances. These aggravating circumstances can include murder with a kidnapping or murder commited to avoid arrest. This is, to ensure that the death penalty is only dealt to those that truly have committed grave crimes. The Fifth Amendment of the Constitution guarantees that a person will not be, deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law (US Const. Amend. V). The Eighth Amendment guarantees that, cruel and unusual punishments (US Const. Amend. XIII) will not be inflicted on convicted criminals. The death penalty does not oppose these amendments because of they way they were specifically written. The Fifth Amendment specifically states, without due process of law (US Const. Amend. V). This is written very particularly to mean that with, due process of law (US Const. Amend. V) the rights that have been guaranteed in this amendment can be taken from a person. The writers of the constitutional meticulously wrote this in such a way so that the rights of a tried and convicted criminal can be rescinded. This means that the death penalty, when given to a tried and convicted criminal, does not violate the Fifth Amendment. The writers of the Constitution wrote it such that it did not invalidate the date penalty. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This begins the friendship and future romance between them, establishing an expressive relationship that connects the slightly awkward Mark to the popular Stacy. Wild strains of species, many as of yet undiscovered, have desirable properties, such as disease resistance and increased crop yield, which tend to be lost in successive generations with selective breeding under artificial conditions.
