Social Reform Dbq
The 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act eradicated the previous systems of relief offered to the poor
in Victorian England before 1834. This legislation was written up and passed with relatively little
difficulty and a lot of parliamentary support. The gist of the amendment was to decrease the
amount of impoverished citizens. This was the ultimate goal without providing any actual help
for the poor themselves. The 1834 amendment reformed poor laws across the country while also
establishing a wide network of workhouses as was fashioned in the amendment. Prior to the
amendment attitudes toward the poor were changing as the Industrial Revolution caused a rapid
upsurge in the number of poor. The poor were being increasingly viewed as criminals by the
wealthy Upper Class and this is directly reflected in the 1834 Poor LawAmendment Act.

The poor searched hard for employment. There was a mixture of both the skilled and the
unskilled searching for work. Wages were low and were kept low intentionally by employers
who counted on the original Elizabethan Poor Law of 1601 to supplement the low wages they
paid their workers. Once the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act eliminated the outdoor relief which
included money, food and clothing, these low wages were not enough to support the average
lower class Victorian family. Decreasing wages and the shortage in jobs meant people wanted
to live in the city where they would be close to any jobs that became available. Often while
waiting for stable work men would do seasonal work to support their families but once the season
was over they would be left struggling to afford basic necessities like food and shelter. Children
often were expected to work during times like this and work they did, doing some of the most
dangerous and labor intensive jobs in Victorian

Impulse Buying Behavior And Marketing Decision Making
Impulse Buying Behavior
It plays a very important role and position in marketing decision making. It can be explained as a
tendency of making unreflective , spontaneous, immediate, kinetic, unplanned and sudden
purchases. Impulse buying has got two parts cognitive and affective where cognitive is related with
planning and latter one with situational factors leading to an impulse purchase. It provides hedonic
reinforcement and reduces overload of selection. It is revealed that cognitive component of impulse
buying is negatively related with subjective wellbeing, whereas affective component is associated
to negative affect and customer susceptibility to interpersonal influence. It was concluded by
exploring relation of impulse buying with individual traits.
Earlier researches, however, also prove empirically that impulse purchase behavior is not merely
function of personal traits, or impulse buying tendency, rather it the type of product which also has
significant impact on this phenomenon. Gender difference in impulse buying and impulse buying
tendency, during purchase of various product categories; have also been found significant in earlier
researches. Product Involvement Product involvement means the general level of.interest in
the.object, or the centrality of the object.to the person s ego structure (Day, 1970, p. 45) . In simple
words, it refers to the attributes or characteristics linked to a certain product relative to customer

Examples Of Persona Of The Masses In The Great Gatsby
Persona of the Masses On weekends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus bearing parties to and
from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon
scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains (39). Certainly, few knew the authentic Jay
Gatsby from the novel The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald. People thought they could fathom
him, but countless were fabricated lies. Copious amounts of people in our society progress
through life like this also. Never showing who they genuinely are because of shame or even fear
of not being accepted by others. Gatsby represents in our society, how people put on a persona to
be likeable to the masses.
Gatsby was a household name around New York at the time of the era in the book. Everyone
knew of his extravagant parties and his mansion, of sorts. By midnight the hilarity had increased.
A celebrated tenor had sung in Italian, and a notorious contralto had sung in jazz, and between
the numbers people were doing stunts all over the garden, while happy, vacuous bursts of
laughter rose toward the summer sky (46). The parties threw by Gatsby were a rage, he threw all
theses flashy parties just so maybe, Daisy would come and she would notice how rich he is. In
society now people try to obtain all the new clothes, cars, the newest iPhone even. We ve been
taught if you don t have all theses things then you won t be accepted. An outcast, and you don t
want that right? So we have accomplished theses

also helps the teacher observe the familyin their home setting. It provides assistance to the teacher
to recognize how the child interacts at home and information regarding their lifestyles. The role of
the home visit is to create open communication. It specifies a layout or foundation to what will be
significant in the following moments of their life.

Why Do Businesses Manage Data And Use Graphics
Lesson 10 Essay Why do businesses manage data and use graphics to reveal their overall
performance standings, and what type of graphics, tables, or charts should one use to share
communicating quantitative information to their business customers that s not only effective; but
easy to understand? Businesses manage data in order to review, and share information received
by others; which are displayed by usage of certain graphs that indicates ones performance levels
in certain areas. However, before you can interpret data, the elements must be classified,
summarized, and condensed into a manageable size; while the condensed information is
meaningful and can be used to answer your research questions (Lehman, Dufrene, Walker, 2014,
p. 169). The purpose for using these type of elements is to display your findings in a way that
others can relate to, by simply compiling all the data into a readable analysis technique through the
usage of a computer. However, it takes careful planning as to what graphics to use, depending on
what results you and the customers are currently searching for. That s why there are certain steps to
follow when gathering the necessary information before selecting the right format to put into
existence for others to view. The first step is to gather the information from the survey, then input it
into the computer system; so it can be categorized by importance. This system allows it to be
broken down into sections, then divided into categories; by

Colin Kaepernick Takes A Stand By Kneeling
The message being sent by Billy Witz in his article, This Time, Colin Kaepernick Takes a Stand
by Kneeling is that the United States has to start treating every citizen equally. Not too long ago,
Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, decided to take a seat during the
national anthem rather than stand with his team. Most people in the crowd booed Kaepernick
because they had thought that he was underrating the sacrifices made by the military. After the
game, he stated, I love America... That s why I m doing this. I want to help make America better
(Witz 1). This quote shows the love the Kaepernick has for his country and all of the citizens in it;
he does not want to see people of different ethnicities and color to be

Hip Hop Culture And Rap Music
Over the past few years, hip hop culture and rap music has stirred up controversy throughout
America and it s media. Whether it is Dr. Dre s 1992 hit single A Nigga Witta Gun or Bobby
Shmurda s 2014 hit single Hot Nigga that boasts about shooting other African Americans, it seems
that the media has denounced the hip hop culture and criticized them for the continuous increase
on inner city youth violence. If people would just listen closer to hip hop s message instead of
assuming it has negative intensions, they will realize that hip hop culture is simply a liberation
movement was started and still ran mostly by the black inner city youth in America. For years, the
black inner city youth has been oppressed through racial and economic situations and they believe
that the hip hop movement is the next civil rights movement in America. They have similar
intentions as Martin Luther King did during the 1960 s civil rights movement; their way of
peaceful protest is through the four main areas involved in hip hop culture: DJing, breakdancing,
graffiti, and most importantly rap music (Romano). The East and West coast were always
competing against each other through means of hop hop. It was all about which region had the
better DJs, graffiti artist, b boys and b girls, and MCs. Each element of hip hop had a positive
impact on American culture. B boying and b girling (breakdancing) was the beginning of the hip
hop movement and it ended lots of violent gang warfare because

Nursing In The 19th Century And The 20th Century
Nursing in the 19th century compared to the 20th century
The history of nursing is an important factor that was in high demand, as it had support and major
influence during both World War 1 and 2, due to the excellent healthcare providers. In the 19th
century, women did not require a college degree to practice nursing compared to today s education
system requirements. Due to the women volunteering during the World War, as a healthcare
provider, their work was highly appreciated. In which the government made nursing a profession
within the healthcare system, as nurses were volunteer work. Dock and Stewart (1938) explain how
within the U.S and other nations, the second World War was more helpful in regard to how it
pushed each countries respective government to provide support for nursing. In 2002, the World
Health Organization explains about the declining numbers of nurses around the world, and they
also explain how this issue needed to be fixed to prevent more negative outcomes in which can
later cause more problem like affecting patients. Later that year, the WHO went on to publish
strategic directions for strengthening nursing and midwifery services, which provided a framework
of five key result areas to guide member states in enhancing their support of nurses and midwives
(World Health Organization, 2010). The world health organization explains the issues regarding the
declining of nurses at the beginning of the century and how it is still declined as time passes.

The American Collegiate System
Right now in the American collegiate system, we are experiencing serious problems in the rate of
graduation between students in higher and lower income quartiles. The purpose of Tough s article
is to not only present this issue to a larger audience, but to show that there are practical solutions
colleges could be taking to narrow this gap. Tough is writingspecifically regarding Texas A M
because through David Laude and David Yeager s Tip program they are having stunning success
in evening out the playing field for less advantaged students. This essay is important because to
solve this issue on a larger scale it is imperative that people become aware of it, and understand
that there are steps we can take to reverse it. This essay was... Show more content on

Another example of this is when Tough introduces Laude and Yeager, Tough uses them as
transitional points in the text, but also he uses their work as potential solutions to the problem he is
presenting.
This style of transition would be fine if executed correctly. However, the way in which Tough
organized these transitions pulls the reader back and forth between different subjects, at times losing
the focus of the article, and making it easy for the reader to get lost within the text.
Another problem readers may face is the style of Tough s writing, mainly due to his tendency to
ramble, and his disposition for redundancy. [example] Tough did a great job at supporting his
argument with the statistics he presented. However, often times the statistics but this unnecessary
information took away the conciseness of the article, and causes his main points to have less of
an impact then they could have. One potential area that could pose big problems for someone
reading this is overall length of this article. Length is not generally an issue because readers tend
to develop their own strategies when dealing with a long read, either by reading in chunks, or
reading it all in one go, readers still have the capacity to finish what they are assigned. However, the
redundancy of the text, makes this

The producer of this film uses the dissimilarity between real and imaginative to reveal the myopic
perspective of the main character. Throughout the movie s duration, the main character, Tom, has a

feelings for Summer cause him to exist in an imaginative state for majority of the film. After his
first sexual encounter with Summer, he is shown walking down the street in a musical like setting;
dancing and talking with strangers. At one point, he even interacts with animated birds that clearly

Jonah Vs. Jonah In The Book Of Nineveh
The people simply humbled themselves before God and He had mercy on them cancelling His
judgment. Jonah had wanted Nineveh to be destroyed by God and this would prolong the life of
the kingdom of Israel. But instead he was the main source of them hearing the message of
repentance. He had preferred to die instead of fulfilling his divinely appointed mission. Now he
had no one to blame for Ninevehs survival except himself and Gods mercy. This made Jonahso
angry that he was inconsolable and wanted to die.
Jesus compared to Jonah
In the book of Luke 11:29 32 (also found in Matthew 12:38 45) Jesus Himself speaks about Jonah.
The Pharisees and the Scribes wanted a sign from Jesus.

would be payment not unmerited favor.
Justice is getting what you deserve.
Mercy is not getting what you deserve.
And grace is getting what you absolutely don t deserve... (Falsani)
At the end of the book, the Bible records that Jonah was so angry that he asks God to let him die
but God does not do so. He then reminds God that he knew Gods character. That God was a
gracious and merciful God, slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, One who relents from
doing harm and this was his reason for running away to Tarshish. Jonah then decides to go out of
the city and wait and watch the outcome of Nineveh. While he was there God made a plant to
grow up immediately and give him shade, bringing Jonah much joy. But when morning came God
appointed a worm to eat it , then a strong wind and sun to beat down on Jonah till he fainted. At
this point, Jonah still feels that it is better for him to die than live. Jonah expresses to God that he
has more pity on the plant that died that the Ninevities that did not

Jesus and his ancestry s. Jesus is the child of Mary and the Holy Spirit. Jesus was born with a

he was born, King Herod had heard a rumor that baby Jesuswould be the king of the Jewish people.
Baby Jesus s existence frightened King Herod. As Jesus grew older the more enemies he
accumulated and there were more people that were frightened by his power. Many readers believe

The Pharisees disliked Jesus. Pharisees disliked Jesus because they felt that Jesus threatened
their security and prestige. The painting Healing of the Blind Man by Carl Block made in 1871,
relates how Jesus is compassionate about his people. In the painting you see how Jesus is
curing a blind man. You could tell that Jesus is humble by the way he is dressed. You could also
see that the people love him by the way they are looking at him. The old man in the right side of
the Jesus looks like he is praying. The blind man is also holding Jesus s arm. This also shows that
Jesus is humble because he lets anybody of any social class touch him. This paining also relates to
a scene that takes place in the book. Matthew said,
As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, Have mercy on us, son
of David! when he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, Do you

Having A Car-Personal Narrative

want to ask for rides anymore or ask my mom too take me to places. Little by little the access of
me having friends to take me places was diminishing, and my mom was coming home from work
extremely tired. It was time for me to step up and have more responsibilities and stop depending on
others. At last, my time came to get my first ever car.

For about twenty eight years now the Asian elephant has been struggling for existence. They have
been classified as endangered species by The International Union for Conservation of Nature
(IUCN). Twenty eight years is quite a large amount of time for an animal to be classified as
endangered so The Zoological Society of London decided to look into this issue. Asian elephants
have been transferred to captivity for quite some time in the North American region. The Elephas
maximus have been captured from these countries in southern Asia and brought over to North
America and have experienced many complications that can hinder the genetic diversity of the
evolution of the species. Captive populations of the Elephas maximus species may be essential for
genetic preservation and aid in decreasing the deterioration of the authentic population (Brenneman

Unfortunately, keeping these elephants captive has caused issues. The females are at least 35
years of age which isn t very essential for reproduction so as a result the mortality rate amongst the

They provided a communal platform for the multi dialect Chinese community to come together for

Interestingly, the introduction of the amusement parks in Singapore got influenced from China in
the early days when amusement parks were originated from Shanghai (Chan and Yung, 2005). This
demonstrates the connection between the Chinese Singaporeans and the Chinese community from
Mainland China. In addition, it is mesmerizing to scrutinize how the introduction of the amusement
parks were well accepted by the local community, through transformation and localization of the
parks for the multi cultural Singaporeans.
Gay World Amusement Park
Gay World Amusement Park was opened in 1937 by George Lee on a plot of land between
Geylang and Mountbatten Roads (Thimbuktu, 2011). Unlike the other two amusement parks, Gay
World Amusement Park was a sporting arena. It was famously known for its octagonal shaped
indoor stadium, known as Gay World stadium or Geylang Indoor Stadium, in which it was the
largest sheltered stadium in Southeast Asia (Omar and Rahman, 2005). According to the

paper with time to spare, and also with one page more than I was assigned. (It goes without saying
that I somehow turned this crisis into a miracle, and I aced the assignment with flying colors.)
3. Let me start by saying this: I am really good at texting. I am very much like some sort of speed

straight here. I am very close with both Alec and Emma, and different as they may be, they have

The report by the group of narcotics control that govern the democrat and republican party,

which averaged 77 murders per 100,000 people in the year 2010. This was a well written report
showing the reason people have come to the conclusion that the main reason to the drug war and
the one to blame is actually not Mexico but the united states. Another of the main reasons of the

decline in the national homicide rate, Mexico today suffers an epidemic of gun violence. At least
120,000 people have been shot dead since 2006. Most of these murders are not committed with
assault rifles, but rather pistols and revolvers. Many are perpetrated by gunmen linked to narco

cause chaos on the streets of Mexico are manufactured in the united states. Curiously, despite its

A Research Study On Water Heating
Water heating accounts for (20 30%) share out of total residential electricity consumption in urban
areas. Economical and financial factors are the most important barriers followed by market
availability for penetration of solar water heater [5]. A study has been conducted to find out
determining factors behind adoption of various solar energytechnologies: solar photovoltaic and
solar thermal options, collecting data from 296 respondents from Chennai. It has been found
that scarcity for electricity and carbon free operation are two most dominating motivating
factors. A single point estimation of economic viability showed that it is feasible for Chennai
[6]. The life cycle cost and payback period assessment has been done taking three cities in united
states ( Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago),two auxiliary systems (natural gas and electricity)
and two types of solar collector (flat plate and evacuated tube). It varies from 4 to 13 years for
different configurations [7]. Economic study has been conducted to calculate electrical energy
savings, payback period and cost of unit electricity saved. The domain of this study was: three
locations (Pune, Mumbai and Chennai) and two solar water heaters with capacity (250lpd and
375lpd).For pune 250lpd was found to be most attractive option [8]. Financial and commercial
viability of domestic solar water heater has been assessed for Indian climate with lower capacity
utilization and low purchasing power of people. A comparison has been

Intercommunion Research Paper
Intercommunion has been a major discussion when it comes to the uniting the Christian churches.
Intercommunion is when non Catholic Christian receive the Eucharist/communion in the catholic
church or when other Christian receive communions in a different church. Although the reason
behind intercommunion is for uniting the different churches, it still challenges belief and practices.
The Catholic Churchviewpoint of the Eucharistis different from other Christian, and this creates
issues because there is a different appreciation for it. The catholic Church views the Eucharist as
being more than a symbol (Heintz). To them, it s a special sign that shows the representation of
JesusChrist. The Eucharist represent the body, blood and soul of Jesus... Show more content on

This makes it difficult to do intercommunion because it s other Christian receiving the Eucharist in
a church they do not belong to. It defeats the purpose of this sacrament. According to the code of
Canon Law, it is considered illicit or unlawful if a catholic receives communion from a protestant
church because an individual can only be in full communion with one church (Field). Although they
may have an expectation when it comes to the law such when a dying person request for a
communion. Catholics and Intercommunion: Intercommunion is a very touchy subject by Michael
Heintz talks about a significant difference in belief and practice between Catholics and other
Christian, and these differences still exist. This another reason why intercommunion is not possible
because to part take in communion one must believe in what the church practice. But if one do not
believe in the practice, and have a practice of their own then one cannot part take in it. This is a
major factor when it comes to the Eucharist because it connecting the individual to the church.
Intercommunion cannot be possible if the churches have a different understanding of the Eucharist
(Heintz). People who do not understand the meaning of the Eucharist should ask a question before
part taking it because it also shows respect. The way a person practice

The Preferred Approach From The Perspective Of The Employee
4:2:3 Findings: Theme 4: The preferred approach from the perspective of the employee
To investigate the preferred approach of the ITM from employee s perspective, two types of data
were needed. One is data indicating the direct preference of the employee and two is data indicating
satisfaction with ITM being approached in that manner. To determine these two, the questionnaire
had relevant questions. The first question of interest was 11. Internal talent management is better
than external talent management. The second question of interest is question 10 which directly
addresses the issue of satisfaction as a consequence of ITM programs. Question 11. ITM programs

How satisfaction relates to the level of ITM present also relates to how groups are perceived.
What this means is that in order to get a better idea of how important ITM is to the company,
there needed to be data of all employees regardless of position or rank. What this means is that
there is a greater possibly of employees just being treated as employees instead of specific
opinion but this too can open doors for further evidence concerning ITM. How question 10 is
perceived about satisfaction may have little to do with rank or culture but more so how values
are communicated to the employee. As all employees only Agree or Strongly Agree which leads
one to see how setting the scale for employees only regardless of rank works better to determine
the level of satisfaction as it relates to ITM. Suppose the idea here is that with ITM being used,
there is greater levels of satisfaction at work and greater rates of people being loyal to the
company. With mean scores averaging between 52 percent and 57 percent toward Agree or
Strongly Agree ranges, this validates the idea that satisfaction is a very important result of ITM
practices and strategies. How this relates to the bigger picture only suggests more so that
employees care about the level of talent being promoted at each company and this is evident in both
companies mean results. Question 10

Martin Scorsese s Film, Taxi Driver Essay
Synopsis
Vietnam veteran Travis Bicklea finds that his life has been turned upside down after returning
America from the battle field. He suffers from the insomnia and sense of isolation, which leads
him to take a job as taxi driver at night; many of his customers represent the people from the lowest
class of society: prostitutes, adulterous husbands and wenchers. Since Travis has promised the cab
company that he will drive anywhere, at anytime, his likelihood of seeing the best of human
nature is fairly slim. So, he tries to create an extra occupational life for himself. He befriends

Especially in a scene where Bickle saves a manВЎВЇs life from a robbery where he gets away with
murder as the clerk would beat up the dead manВЎВЇs body. Though it might have seem gruesome
at the time, Scorsese doesnВЎВЇt pull back where he doesnВЎВЇt give any clear answer of Bickle,
in the terms of becoming normal. This is by far some top notch directing from one of NYCВЎВЇs
greatest visionaries.
In Taxi Driver, Scorsese manages his camera angles and editing to emphasize Travis seeing the
world through glass or mirrors, especially the windshield and rear view mirror of the taxi,
through which all major characters enter Taxi Driver: Betsy through the panes of an all glass
office; Palantine through his rear view mirror; and Iris and Sport in a fleeting glance in his
mirror. As Travis meets with a black market gun dealer, and in this scene the weapon literally
becomes the organ of perception. Scorsese situates his camera on Travis arm as that arm takes
the weapon and slowly pans it across the window looking down on the street below. Finally, in
the scene which has made Travis Bickle a cinematic icon ( Are you talking to me? ), Travis looks
into his mirror, challenges imaginary adversaries, and draws his various weapons in assault. The
ambiguity of the image is poignant: Travis looks into a mirror and makes a self destructive gesture
foreshadowing his attempted suicide at the climax of the film, and Travis peers through the looking

Primary And Secondary Circular Reactions
The second and third stage is primary and secondary circular reactions. Throughout these stages,
babies repeat entertaining actions concentrated on their own body. The primary stage usually
appears when they are between 1 4 months old (McLeod, 2010). This is when I started to
continually kick my legs a lot, and I sucked on my thumb even more. Supposedly I smiled a
bunch, and I loved looking at myself in the mirror (Personal archives, November 23, 2015). I
also had my baptism during this stage; it was exactly a month and a week after I was born.
Being the cereal lover that I am today, I learned that I had my first cereal when I was only 4
month s old. The secondary circular reactions stage usually occurs from 4 8 months old, and I
started using more objects to keep myself entertained. My first tooth appeared when I was 6
months old. The fourth sub stage takes place from 8 12 months of age, the stageof co ordinating
secondary schemes. During this stage, babies start showing signs that they can use knowledge to
reach a goal (McLeod, 2010). This was a really huge stage for me in my life. At 8 months, I was
able to sit without having any support from anyone. At 9 months old, I started to crawl, and then I
took my first step at 10 months. Finally, I started to walk on my own at 11 months. The last two
sub stages, tertiary circular reactions and symbolic thought is basically when the baby develops
more knowledge. They may try putting broken toys back together, and this is

The Justifications Of Prison And Punishment
The area this dissertation will be focusing on is the justifications of prison and punishment, and
looking at whether these objectives are being achieved today in the current prisonsystem, with a
thorough analysis of short sentences.
In order to analyse this, short sentences will be looked at to discover whether the prison system is
working.
Throughout history, punishment has always had to be justified. For example, pre 19th century,
punishment, which included being sent to the gallows or being placed in the stocks, had the
justification of being a deterrent, as punishment was a very public event (BBC, 2012). This type of
punishment was then met with Petitions against executions and torture increased in the eighteenth
century (Poster, 1984), and as a result of these petitions, theorists such as Beccaria (1764) spoke of
creating a punishment that removed the element of torture. Foucault (1975) spoke of the moving of
punishment from the body to the mind, in order to present the prospect that their acts would that
their acts would cause more pain than pleasure so that, as rational beings, they would avoid
committing illegalities in the first place (Poster, 1984).
Prison has therefore been justified since the Gladstone Report (Departmental Committee on
Prisons,1895), which set the tone for penal policy, stating that prison would have a deterrent
function; there would also be a rehabilitative ideal about prison. The objectives of prison, as
described by Jewkes et al

that it was an application form for a school field trip coming up! She signed the form and stated
that we d be renting skis from Barrie s Extreme Sports Store. I was surprised that this wasn t a

Nature And Nurture In In Cold Blood By Perry Smith
A debate on whether or not Perry Smith was more controlled by nature and nurture when
committing crimes is a hot topic. Most solemnly believe that this is what manipulated the
actions that Perry took. According to www.simplypsychology.org, Nature is what we think of as
pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is
generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure,
experience and learning on an individual. Due to Perry Smith s exposure to abuse, the
abandonment emotionally and physically from his family, and influential behavior from Dick, it
led him to making extreme actions such as committing murder and other crimes. Capote, in In
Cold Blood , helps portray Perry Smith the way those in Holcomb view him while also
frequently adding in his personal life throughout the novel, such as him being abused while he
was under the care of nuns and those running the shelter. In the novel, Perry goes into detail as to
how he was abused, he even said that he remembered it all. At the Catholic orphanage he was
abused for wetting the bed constantly, She woke me up. She had a flashlight, and she hit me with
it. Hit me and hit me. And when the flashlight broke, she went on hitting me in the dark (p. 58)
Then, after his mother died, Perry s father took him but left him in a Salvation Army shelter where
he was abused for not only bed wetting but for being half Indian as well, There was

The Epic Of Gilgamesh And The Bhagavad Gita
In The Epic of Gilgamesh and The Bhagavad Gita, gods play an important role in society and the
way of life. In the Bhagavad Gita, people portray their gods as almighty and perfect beings. In
The Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian people see their gods as imperfect, human like beings.
The way the people depict their gods, determines how long the religion will last and how much
power the gods withhold. The fact that the gods in The Epic of Gilgameshact a lot like humans, their
power is minimal. For example, Ishtar, the goddess of live and war, falls in love with Gilgamesh
and longs for him sexually. The craving for sex is a very human like trait. Gilgamesh later
denies Ishtar, which shows how degraded the gods really are. Also, in Mesopotamian culture, no
one god is all powerful. After Ishtar is rejected by Gilgamesh, she seeks revenge. Ishtar is not
strong enough to fulfill this task on her own, so she asks Anu, her father for permission to use
the Bull of Heaven. She says, Father, give me the Bull of Heaven, so he can kill Gilgamesh in his
dwelling (54). Anu replies, If you demand the bull from me, there will be seven years of empty
husks for the land of Uruk(54). The conversation between Ishtar and Anu is not very god like and
holds a very human aspect of a conversation you would hear between a mortal father and daughter.
The fact that Ishtar has to ask permission before acting, shows how much power she lacks. Ishtar

Personality is often described in terms of traits. It is a combination of traits that classifies an

just hoped to weather the storm. But Mitarai adopted an autocratic approach. Autocratic leadership
is not all bad. Sometimes it is the most effective style to use. Twenty three years working
experiences in the US enable Mitarai to know clearly that his key challenge was to return the
company to profitability. Therefore, he was merciless in axing unprofitable parts of the business.
This decision is made without any form of consultation. Based on Lewin s experiments, this may

healthcare sector. I will reflect upon a practice based situation related to a service user and
discuss how this is linked to the policy Our health, our care, our say (Department of Health,
2006). I will also provide a self assessment of my current level of development using the
Interprofessional Capability Framework. Our health, our care, our say is a policy published by
the Department of Health in 2006 which aims to provide a more effective health and social care
service in the community outside of hospital. It s main aims are to improve community based
care, enable health independence and well being, provide better access to general practice and
community services, and greater support for people with long term health conditions. It sets out
the government s vision for high quality support meeting people s aspirations for independence
and greater control over their lives, making service flexible and responsive to individual needs.
This policy really highlights the need for an improved, person centred healthcare service in the
community, bringing together different interprofessional teams to provide quality care for the

Mr. Williams And The Music Of Music And Film
John Williams once said so much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by
ourselves, so it s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people s memories and
linger it did. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully
understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the
progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his
accomplishments of music and film.
In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant
experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an
agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S. (2005)). The musician
generally improvised playing mostly a variety of popular romantic and melodramatic scores of the
late nineteenth century (such as William Tell Overture, Ride of the Valkyrie, Les Preludes, etc.) as
long as it accompanied the action/scene or enhanced the mood (for dramatic effect). ( From Scene
to Shining Screen: A Short History of Film Music . para. 1 2. (n.d.)). As film grew in popularity and
length, so did the musical accompaniment adding instruments to the ensemble until even some
theaters were housing full orchestras. By the end of the silent era, the industry had completely

If you know the planets orbital speed and orbital period, we can work out the orbital radius. The
mass of the planet can also determine by the wobble method. As the planet orbit the sun,
gravitational pull of the planet makes the star wobble, changing the sun velocity. This change of
velocity can be detected by astronomical spectroscopy using redshift and blueshift. When the star
wobble closer to us, the star emits higher frequencies, longer wavelength, and showing bluer colour
when detecting to a spectroscope. When the star wobble away to us, the star emits lower
frequencies, shorter wavelength, and showing reddish colour in the spectroscope. How the planet
change the velocity of the sun determine the planet mass as gravitational pull of the planet depends
on the mass of the planet. This transit can also give the astronomer the estimated linear diameter of
the planet. When you know the star size, you can work out the size ratio of the planet and the star
when the planet transit the star. As I mentioned before, knowing the linear diameter of the planet
gives the astronomers the volume of the planet and volume of the planet and its mass determine the
density of the planets.

Researchers do not just look at the plant but keeps in mind how the plants interact with each other
and their environment. A Plant ecologist do not just look at plants but also the soil conditions,
animals and other influences that might have an impact on the plants environment. According to
McMahon (2016) plant ecology is not just a plant itself but, is everything from understanding
the plants environment functions as well as the interaction of humans with the natural
environment. The area most focused on in plant ecology is topics like climate change, plant
diseases and the symbiotic relationship between plant species and how plants spread in nature
(McMahon, 2016). Plant ecology involves a lot of field work because the plant needs to be
viewed in their natural habitat to understand why the plant looks like it does. Plant ecology
covers a wide range of research for instance the study of plants growing in a specific ecosystem
for example the rainforest, or a specific area that is of interest, like a population of plants that is
growing next to a polluted river or dam. It can also help researchers to study endangered
ecosystems and plant populations including not vascular plants like mosses. Plants make up a very

said to have been the author of 4 anonymous pamphlets which are credited for swaying the
perception of the Whig political ideology after the 1688 Revolution. Using his writing talents
Defoe persuaded the King to adopt his view of progress and his rationale of trade and exchange,
his interpretations of the biblical history. He contributed to England s transition of barbarous
society into one of politeness. As a truly universal writer, Defoe also had his hand in the secular
beliefs. It is said that Robinson Crusoe has a religious undertone message. In that, Robinson
repented his sin of disobeying his father. Many of Defoe works in 1726 related to his religious
side. A few of these writings: The Political History of the Devil. This is a curious book, partly
explanatory of Defoe s ideas on morality, and partly belonging to a series of demonological
works which he wrote, and of which the chief others are A System of Magic (1726), and An
Essay on the History of Apparitions (1728), issued the year before under another title. In all these
works his treatment is on the whole rational and sensible; but in The History of the Devil he is
somewhat hampered by an insufficiently worked out theory as to the nature and personal existence
of his hero,

Understanding The Milgram Experiments
In the beginning of chapter two, where Lauren is describing a setup for the reader is something I
really like as the opening. Instead of going in and start introducing the experiments that Milgram
did, Lauren made it if I was the one who was experimented on. I also mentioned that I like how she
made the reader become mice to understand the experiment last week. I believe this is going to be a
common recurring theme within this book since it helps me to understand the chapter that I m
reading.
The Milgram experiment is something interesting to test out, and also ethically wrong to do in my
opinion. It s interesting that Milgram wants to test out if people will be obedient to authority. He
conducted a research by having the real subjects to

When Irene Character Analysis
I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from
the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I
thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to
Irene feeling threatened by Claire.
Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins
to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian
leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life
and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the
story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of
the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to
think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come
up.
Looking past Irene s desire for stability, I believe that her continuous jealousy towards Claire would
serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Show more

Irene begins to imagine the possibility of Brian and Claire having an affair and begins to spin a
web of negative emotions in her head until she breaks the cup she was holding in frustration. This
instance is critical as it shows us that Irene can be pushed to rash and violent action when she
thinks about Claire taking her husband away from her. While the argument can be made that
breaking a cup and pushing a person are two separate actions with the later being harder to carry
out, I think that Irene perpetually overthinks things to the point where she blocks out the outside
world whenever something stressful beings to weigh on

Should Teens Be Allowed To Vote
Should teens be allowed to vote ? There are different responses to this. The article Takoma Park
16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls by Annys Shin published on Nov. 3,
2013 shows different sides about teens being allowed to vote. The article indicates that some
individuals believe that teens should be allowed to vote while other don t believe that they should.
After reading the article and seeing the pros and cons of students votingone can infer that it won t
be a good idea for students to vote. Many people agree that teen should be allowed to vote, but
why. Teens are still young kids who still are not matured enough to help shape the world. They are
not at the ageto vote. Being able to vote for them will seem like a joke. They won t take it
seriously. If teens are allowed to vote many won t even take time and think about what is the
best decision for them. Think about it this way as a teen when a teacher would tell you to make
up your mind if you wanna see the movie the Lion King or Home Alone. A teen will talk it out
with their friends and their vote will be influenced by others. They will raise their hand to the one
the friend chooses. Well same as voting their vote won t really be accurate of what they think.
They won t know who to vote for and will just vote on what a friend is voting for. Teens are still
too young to vote.
Teens are not matured enough. Yes there are student who at the age of 16 and 17 are like adults,
but in reality

  • 2. Social Reform Dbq The 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act eradicated the previous systems of relief offered to the poor in Victorian England before 1834. This legislation was written up and passed with relatively little difficulty and a lot of parliamentary support. The gist of the amendment was to decrease the amount of impoverished citizens. This was the ultimate goal without providing any actual help for the poor themselves. The 1834 amendment reformed poor laws across the country while also establishing a wide network of workhouses as was fashioned in the amendment. Prior to the amendment attitudes toward the poor were changing as the Industrial Revolution caused a rapid upsurge in the number of poor. The poor were being increasingly viewed as criminals by the wealthy Upper Class and this is directly reflected in the 1834 Poor LawAmendment Act. As with years previous, parliament during this ... Wages were low and were kept low intentionally by employers who counted on the original Elizabethan Poor Law of 1601 to supplement the low wages they paid their workers. Once the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act eliminated the outdoor relief which included money, food and clothing, these low wages were not enough to support the average lower class Victorian family. Decreasing wages and the shortage in jobs meant people wanted to live in the city where they would be close to any jobs that became available. Often while waiting for stable work men would do seasonal work to support their families but once the season was over they would be left struggling to afford basic necessities like food and shelter. Children often were expected to work during times like this and work they did, doing some of the most dangerous and labor intensive jobs in Victorian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Impulse Buying Behavior And Marketing Decision Making Impulse Buying Behavior It plays a very important role and position in marketing decision making. It can be explained as a tendency of making unreflective , spontaneous, immediate, kinetic, unplanned and sudden purchases. Impulse buying has got two parts cognitive and affective where cognitive is related with planning and latter one with situational factors leading to an impulse purchase. It provides hedonic reinforcement and reduces overload of selection. It is revealed that cognitive component of impulse buying is negatively related with subjective wellbeing, whereas affective component is associated to negative affect and customer susceptibility to interpersonal influence. It was concluded by exploring relation of impulse buying with individual traits. Earlier researches, however, also prove empirically that impulse purchase behavior is not merely function of personal traits, or impulse buying tendency, rather it the type of product which also has significant impact on this phenomenon. Gender difference in impulse buying and impulse buying tendency, during purchase of various product categories; have also been found significant in earlier researches. Product Involvement Product involvement means the general level of.interest in the.object, or the centrality of the object.to the person s ego structure (Day, 1970, p. 45) . Examples Of Persona Of The Masses In The Great Gatsby Persona of the Masses On weekends his Rolls Royce became an omnibus bearing parties to and from the city between nine in the morning and long past midnight, while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains (39). Certainly, few knew the authentic Jay Gatsby from the novel The Great Gatsbyby F. Scott Fitzgerald. People thought they could fathom him, but countless were fabricated lies. Copious amounts of people in our society progress through life like this also. Never showing who they genuinely are because of shame or even fear of not being accepted by others. Gatsby represents in our society, how people put on a persona to be likeable to the masses. Gatsby was a household name around New York at the time of the era in the book. Everyone knew of his extravagant parties and his mansion, of sorts. By midnight the hilarity had increased. A celebrated tenor had sung in Italian, and a notorious contralto had sung in jazz, and between the numbers people were doing stunts all over the garden, while happy, vacuous bursts of laughter rose toward the summer sky (46). The parties threw by Gatsby were a rage, he threw all theses flashy parties just so maybe, Daisy would come and she would notice how rich he is. In society now people try to obtain all the new clothes, cars, the newest iPhone even. We ve been taught if you don t have all theses things then you won t be accepted. Why Do Businesses Manage Data And Use Graphics Lesson 10 Essay Why do businesses manage data and use graphics to reveal their overall performance standings, and what type of graphics, tables, or charts should one use to share communicating quantitative information to their business customers that s not only effective; but easy to understand? Businesses manage data in order to review, and share information received by others; which are displayed by usage of certain graphs that indicates ones performance levels in certain areas. However, before you can interpret data, the elements must be classified, summarized, and condensed into a manageable size; while the condensed information is meaningful and can be used to answer your research questions (Lehman, Dufrene, Walker, 2014, p. 169). The purpose for using these type of elements is to display your findings in a way that others can relate to, by simply compiling all the data into a readable analysis technique through the usage of a computer. However, it takes careful planning as to what graphics to use, depending on what results you and the customers are currently searching for. That s why there are certain steps to follow when gathering the necessary information before selecting the right format to put into existence for others to view. The first step is to gather the information from the survey, then input it into the computer system; so it can be categorized by importance. The East and West coast were always competing against each other through means of hop hop. It was all about which region had the better DJs, graffiti artist, b boys and b girls, and MCs. Another example of this is when Tough introduces Laude and Yeager, Tough uses them as transitional points in the text, but also he uses their work as potential solutions to the problem he is presenting. This style of transition would be fine if executed correctly. However, the way in which Tough organized these transitions pulls the reader back and forth between different subjects, at times losing the focus of the article, and making it easy for the reader to get lost within the text. Another problem readers may face is the style of Tough s writing, mainly due to his tendency to ramble, and his disposition for redundancy. [example] Tough did a great job at supporting his argument with the statistics he presented. However, often times the statistics but this unnecessary information took away the conciseness of the article, and causes his main points to have less of an impact then they could have. One potential area that could pose big problems for someone reading this is overall length of this article. Length is not generally an issue because readers tend to develop their own strategies when dealing with a long read, either by reading in chunks, or reading it all in one go, readers still have the capacity to finish what they are assigned. The report highlighted the high rate of homicides in Mexico the last year, which averaged 77 murders per 100,000 people in the year 2010. This was a well written report showing the reason people have come to the conclusion that the main reason to the drug war and the one to blame is actually not Mexico but the united states. Another of the main reasons of the drug war in Mexico are the weapons brought from the united states to Mexico. After a decade of decline in the national homicide rate, Mexico today suffers an epidemic of gun violence. At least 120,000 people have been shot dead since 2006. Most of these murders are not committed with assault rifles, but rather pistols and revolvers. Many are perpetrated by gunmen linked to narco cartels, but also in clashes with soldiers and police. Economical and financial factors are the most important barriers followed by market availability for penetration of solar water heater [5]. A study has been conducted to find out determining factors behind adoption of various solar energytechnologies: solar photovoltaic and solar thermal options, collecting data from 296 respondents from Chennai. It has been found that scarcity for electricity and carbon free operation are two most dominating motivating factors. A single point estimation of economic viability showed that it is feasible for Chennai [6]. The life cycle cost and payback period assessment has been done taking three cities in united states ( Los Angeles, Atlanta and Chicago),two auxiliary systems (natural gas and electricity) and two types of solar collector (flat plate and evacuated tube). It varies from 4 to 13 years for different configurations [7]. • 28. The Justifications Of Prison And Punishment The area this dissertation will be focusing on is the justifications of prison and punishment, and looking at whether these objectives are being achieved today in the current prisonsystem, with a thorough analysis of short sentences. In order to analyse this, short sentences will be looked at to discover whether the prison system is working. Throughout history, punishment has always had to be justified. For example, pre 19th century, punishment, which included being sent to the gallows or being placed in the stocks, had the justification of being a deterrent, as punishment was a very public event (BBC, 2012). This type of punishment was then met with Petitions against executions and torture increased in the eighteenth century (Poster, 1984), and as a result of these petitions, theorists such as Beccaria (1764) spoke of creating a punishment that removed the element of torture. Foucault (1975) spoke of the moving of punishment from the body to the mind, in order to present the prospect that their acts would that their acts would cause more pain than pleasure so that, as rational beings, they would avoid committing illegalities in the first place (Poster, 1984). Prison has therefore been justified since the Gladstone Report (Departmental Committee on Prisons,1895), which set the tone for penal policy, stating that prison would have a deterrent function; there would also be a rehabilitative ideal about prison. • 31. Nature And Nurture In In Cold Blood By Perry Smith A debate on whether or not Perry Smith was more controlled by nature and nurture when committing crimes is a hot topic. Most solemnly believe that this is what manipulated the actions that Perry took. According to www.simplypsychology.org, Nature is what we think of as pre wiring and is influenced by genetic inheritance and other biological factors. Nurture is generally taken as the influence of external factors after conception e.g. the product of exposure, experience and learning on an individual. Due to Perry Smith s exposure to abuse, the abandonment emotionally and physically from his family, and influential behavior from Dick, it led him to making extreme actions such as committing murder and other crimes. Capote, in In Cold Blood , helps portray Perry Smith the way those in Holcomb view him while also frequently adding in his personal life throughout the novel, such as him being abused while he was under the care of nuns and those running the shelter. In the novel, Perry goes into detail as to how he was abused, he even said that he remembered it all. At the Catholic orphanage he was abused for wetting the bed constantly, She woke me up. She had a flashlight, and she hit me with it. Hit me and hit me. In the Bhagavad Gita, people portray their gods as almighty and perfect beings. In The Epic of Gilgamesh, the Mesopotamian people see their gods as imperfect, human like beings. The way the people depict their gods, determines how long the religion will last and how much power the gods withhold. The fact that the gods in The Epic of Gilgameshact a lot like humans, their power is minimal. For example, Ishtar, the goddess of live and war, falls in love with Gilgamesh and longs for him sexually. The craving for sex is a very human like trait. Gilgamesh later denies Ishtar, which shows how degraded the gods really are. Also, in Mesopotamian culture, no one god is all powerful. After Ishtar is rejected by Gilgamesh, she seeks revenge. Ishtar is not strong enough to fulfill this task on her own, so she asks Anu, her father for permission to use the Bull of Heaven. She says, Father, give me the Bull of Heaven, so he can kill Gilgamesh in his dwelling (54). Anu replies, If you demand the bull from me, there will be seven years of empty husks for the land of Uruk(54). Mr. Williams And The Music Of Music And Film John Williams once said so much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it s gratifying to have something you have done linger in people s memories and linger it did. Mr. Williams has made significant contributions to the arts of music and film. To fully understand the gravity of his achievements and their affect on humanity, we must first look at the progression of sound in film; the effect music has in film and its audience; and lastly his accomplishments of music and film. In the infancy of film, movies were silent but not without sound. To make film a more pleasant experience, music was provided to cover up the ambient noise of the projector and help create an agreeable atmosphere, often by the use of a solo piano. (Fischoff, S. (2005)). As the planet orbit the sun, gravitational pull of the planet makes the star wobble, changing the sun velocity. This change of velocity can be detected by astronomical spectroscopy using redshift and blueshift. When the star wobble closer to us, the star emits higher frequencies, longer wavelength, and showing bluer colour when detecting to a spectroscope. When the star wobble away to us, the star emits lower frequencies, shorter wavelength, and showing reddish colour in the spectroscope. Plant ecology covers a wide range of research for instance the study of plants growing in a specific ecosystem for example the rainforest, or a specific area that is of interest, like a population of plants that is growing next to a polluted river or dam. Using his writing talents Defoe persuaded the King to adopt his view of progress and his rationale of trade and exchange, his interpretations of the biblical history. He contributed to England s transition of barbarous society into one of politeness. As a truly universal writer, Defoe also had his hand in the secular beliefs. It is said that Robinson Crusoe has a religious undertone message. In that, Robinson repented his sin of disobeying his father. Many of Defoe works in 1726 related to his religious side. A few of these writings: The Political History of the Devil. This is a curious book, partly explanatory of Defoe s ideas on morality, and partly belonging to a series of demonological works which he wrote, and of which the chief others are A System of Magic (1726), and An Essay on the History of Apparitions (1728), issued the year before under another title. In all these works his treatment is on the whole rational and sensible; but in The History of the Devil he is somewhat hampered by an insufficiently worked out theory as to the nature and personal existence of his hero, ... • 46. Understanding The Milgram Experiments In the beginning of chapter two, where Lauren is describing a setup for the reader is something I really like as the opening. Instead of going in and start introducing the experiments that Milgram did, Lauren made it if I was the one who was experimented on. I also mentioned that I like how she made the reader become mice to understand the experiment last week. I believe this is going to be a common recurring theme within this book since it helps me to understand the chapter that I m reading. The Milgram experiment is something interesting to test out, and also ethically wrong to do in my opinion. It s interesting that Milgram wants to test out if people will be obedient to authority. He conducted a research by having the real subjects to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 48. When Irene Character Analysis I believe that Claire was pushed out of the window at the end of the novel. This belief stems from the buildup of resentment that Irene had felt toward Claire during the entirety of the story, but I thought that in the final section this resentment began to go from simply not agreeing each other to Irene feeling threatened by Claire. Irene and Brian have what seems to be a marriage held together by children and when Irene begins to suspect Claire is using her charms to win over Brian, Irene immediately starts to fear Brian leaving her for Claire. This would rip apart the stability that Irene wants so desperately in her life and she cannot allow that. We have watched Irene attempt to manipulate people throughout the story, especially with Brian as exemplified by her not allowing Brian to leave his job for the sake of the family. When Irene starts to imagine Claire taking away Brian, I think that it is not a stretch to think that Irene would do whatever it takes to make sure that the situation could not possibly come up. Looking past Irene s desire for stability, I believe that her continuous jealousy towards Claire would serve as proof for Irene pushing Claire out of the window. Irene describes Claire ... Irene begins to imagine the possibility of Brian and Claire having an affair and begins to spin a web of negative emotions in her head until she breaks the cup she was holding in frustration. This instance is critical as it shows us that Irene can be pushed to rash and violent action when she thinks about Claire taking her husband away from her. While the argument can be made that breaking a cup and pushing a person are two separate actions with the later being harder to carry out, I think that Irene perpetually overthinks things to the point where she blocks out the outside world whenever something stressful beings to weigh on ... • 49. Should Teens Be Allowed To Vote Should teens be allowed to vote ? There are different responses to this. The article Takoma Park 16 year old savors his history making moment at the polls by Annys Shin published on Nov. 3, 2013 shows different sides about teens being allowed to vote. The article indicates that some individuals believe that teens should be allowed to vote while other don t believe that they should. After reading the article and seeing the pros and cons of students votingone can infer that it won t be a good idea for students to vote. Many people agree that teen should be allowed to vote, but why. Teens are still young kids who still are not matured enough to help shape the world. They are not at the ageto vote. Being able to vote for them will seem like a joke. They won t take it seriously. If teens are allowed to vote many won t even take time and think about what is the best decision for them. Think about it this way as a teen when a teacher would tell you to make up your mind if you wanna see the movie the Lion King or Home Alone. A teen will talk it out with their friends and their vote will be influenced by others. They will raise their hand to the one the friend chooses. Well same as voting their vote won t really be accurate of what they think. They won t know who to vote for and will just vote on what a friend is voting for. Teens are still too young to vote. Teens are not matured enough. Yes there are student who at the age of 16 and 17 are like adults, but in reality ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
