Left Brain VS Right Brain
I am the left brain. I am a scientist,

a mathematician. I love the familiar.

I categorise. I am accurate. Linear.
Analytical. Strategic. I am practical.

Always in control. A master of words and
language. Realistic. I calculate equations
and play with numbers. I am order. I am
logic. I know exactly who I am.
Zeopard.com @JennieVickers
LEFT BRAIN
@JennieVickers
I am the right brain. I am creativity.

I am a free spirit. I am passion.

Yearning, sensuality. I am the sound of
roaring laughter. I am taste. The feeling of
sand beneath bare feet. I am movement.
Vivid colours. I am the urge to paint on an
empty canvas. I am boundless imagination.
Art. Poetry. I sense. I feel. I am everything

I wanted to be.

Where on the clock is Disabilities?
Zeopard.com
@JennieVickers
1.! Take a blank piece paper A4 size

or larger. Preferably use a paper

pad.!
!
!
2.! Use the paper landscape!
!
!
3.! Start in the centre.
HOW TO MIND MAP
Blank paper allows 360° of freedom to express
the full range of your cortical skills, whereas
pre-drawn lines restrict the natural flow of your
thoughts. !
!
Words and images have more lateral space, so
they don’t bump into margins as quickly. !
!
Thoughts start in the centre of our mental
world. The Mind Map page reflects this. !
Zeopard.com
HOW WHY
@JennieVickers
4.! Create a central image that personally
represents the topic about which you are
writing / thinking.!
!
5.! - Use at least three colours!
! !
! - Keep the height and width of the

central image to approx 2” or 5cm!
!
! - Leave the image open (do not!
use a frame)!
HOW WHY
Zeopard.com
‘A picture is worth a thousand words’.
It opens up associations, focuses the
thoughts, is fun and results in better
recall. !
!
-! Colours stimulate the right cortical
! activity of the imagination as well as
! capturing and holding attention. !
!
-! This size gives plenty of space for
! the rest of your Mind Map. The !

image has its own unique shape. !
!
-! A frame may make the centre a !

monotony of shape. A free image is
! more memorable & enjoyable. !
!
@JennieVickers
The main themes around the central
image are like the chapter headings of

a book. !
With a Mind Map on “My Holiday” one

of the themes could be ‘TRANSPORT’.!
!
• This word is printed in CAPITALS!
• Place on a line of the same length,
one word per line!
• The central lines are thick, curved
and organic ie like your arm joining
your body, or the branch of a tree to
the trunk!
• Connect directly to the central!
image
HOW WHY
Zeopard.com
The main themes, connected to the central image
on the main branches, allow their relative
importance to be seen. !
!
• One word per line is to catch Key Words only !
• Printing (versus cursive writing) allows the brain
to photograph the image and thus gives easier
reading and more immediate recall !
• Word length = line length. An extra line
disconnects thoughts, whereas the same length
accentuates the connection!
• Curved lines give visual rhythm and variety and
so are easier to remember, more pleasant to do,
and less boring! Thicker central lines show
importance.!
• Connected to the image because the brain
works by association – not by separated
disconnected lists
@JennieVickers
HOW TO MAIN BRANCHES
As practice for drawing main branches:
Draw two more main theme branches on
the right side and put words onto the lines
words connecting to the central image you
have drawn for the Mind Map about “My
Holiday”:!
!
!
!
- DESTINATION?!
!
- PACE?!
!
Zeopard.com
@JennieVickers
Add other main theme branches, by
arranging other ‘chapter headings’. !
Remember to PRINT the word!
and make it fit the line.
!
!
So all your main themes stand out
clearly, and can trigger your
subsequent connecting thoughts.
HOW
WHY
Zeopard.com
@JennieVickers
Start to add a second level of thought.
These words or images are linked to the
main branch that triggered them. !
Remember, as before:!
• Lines connect but are thinner!
• Words printed but may be lower case
Your initial words and images stimulate associations.
Attach them to whatever word or image triggers
them. Allow the ‘random’ movement of your
thoughts, you do not have to ‘finish’ one branch
before moving on. !
!
• Connected lines create relationships and a
structure. They also demonstrate the level of
importance, as from a branch to a twig. !
• The size and style of the letters provide
additional data about their importance and
meaning.
Zeopard.com
HOW WHY
@JennieVickers
Add a third or fourth level of
data as thoughts come to you.!
Use images as much as you
can instead of, or in addition
to, the words.!
Allow your thoughts to come
freely, meaning you ‘jump
about’ the Mind Map as the
links and associations occur to
you.
Add some of your own branches, words
and images to this Mind Map.

Your brain is like a multi-handed ball
catcher. The Mind Map allows you to
catch whatever ‘thought ball’ is thrown by
your brain.
Zeopard.com
HOW WHY
@JennieVickers
ADDING MORE BRANCHES
Zeopard.com
Draw further main branches:!
-ACCOMMODATION!
-MONEY!
-ACTIVITY!
and now add some sub
branches and even sub sub
branches onto those new
main branches !
Remember the rules.
@JennieVickers
Add a new dimension to your Mind
Maps. Boxes add depth around the
word or image.
To make some important points stand
out. !
!
The outlines will create unique shapes,
such as those you find in clouds, and will
aid your memory. !
• They can also show connection
between branches by using the same
colour outline !
• These provide immediate visual
linking. They can also encourage
follow-up and remind you of action
you need to take.
Sometimes enclose branches of a Mind
Map with outlines in colour. !
• Enclose the shape of the branch!
• Use different colours and styles!
• Add arrows and codes between !
• Information to show the connection!
Zeopard.com
HOW WHY
@JennieVickers
NOW ADD PICTURES ONTO BRANCHES OR NEAR BRANCHES
Make each Mind Map a little more

!
!
!
!
!
Have fun! Add a little humour,
exaggeration or absurdity wherever you
can.
Your eye / brain will be attracted to your

Mind Map.!
It will be easier to remember.!
It will be more attractive both to you

and others. !
!
Your brain will delight in getting the maximum
enjoyment from this process. Your brain will
then learn faster and recall more effectively. !
!
Planning becomes!
more enjoyable.

I keep six honest serving-men

I give them all a rest.!

  • 45. Zeopard.com MAXIMISE THE POWER OF YOUR BRAIN @JennieVickers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlabrWv25qQ Follow the link to learn more about the many ways in which Mind Maps can help you and your brain:
  • 46. HOW TO READ
 A MIND MAP Zeopard.com @JennieVickers
  • 47. HOW TO READ A MIND MAP Zeopard.com @JennieVickers MIND MAP CREATED FROM: 'LEAD WITH WISDOM’ BY MARK STROM CHAPTER 4 - CONVERSATION PAGES 84-85
  • 51. Where on the clock is Disabilities? Zeopard.com @JennieVickers
  • 52. 1.! Take a blank piece paper A4 size
or larger. Preferably use a paper
pad.! ! ! 2.! Use the paper landscape! ! ! 3.! Start in the centre. HOW TO MIND MAP Blank paper allows 360° of freedom to express the full range of your cortical skills, whereas pre-drawn lines restrict the natural flow of your thoughts. ! ! Words and images have more lateral space, so they don’t bump into margins as quickly. ! ! Thoughts start in the centre of our mental world. The Mind Map page reflects this. ! Zeopard.com HOW WHY @JennieVickers
  • 53. 4.! Create a central image that personally represents the topic about which you are writing / thinking.! ! 5.! - Use at least three colours! ! ! ! - Keep the height and width of the
central image to approx 2” or 5cm! ! ! - Leave the image open (do not! use a frame)! HOW WHY Zeopard.com ‘A picture is worth a thousand words’. It opens up associations, focuses the thoughts, is fun and results in better recall. ! ! -! Colours stimulate the right cortical ! activity of the imagination as well as ! capturing and holding attention. ! ! -! This size gives plenty of space for ! the rest of your Mind Map. The !
image has its own unique shape. ! ! -! A frame may make the centre a !
monotony of shape. A free image is ! more memorable & enjoyable. ! ! @JennieVickers
  • 54. The main themes around the central image are like the chapter headings of
a book. ! With a Mind Map on “My Holiday” one
of the themes could be ‘TRANSPORT’.! ! • This word is printed in CAPITALS! • Place on a line of the same length, one word per line! • The central lines are thick, curved and organic ie like your arm joining your body, or the branch of a tree to the trunk! • Connect directly to the central! image HOW WHY Zeopard.com The main themes, connected to the central image on the main branches, allow their relative importance to be seen. ! ! • One word per line is to catch Key Words only ! • Printing (versus cursive writing) allows the brain to photograph the image and thus gives easier reading and more immediate recall ! • Word length = line length. An extra line disconnects thoughts, whereas the same length accentuates the connection! • Curved lines give visual rhythm and variety and so are easier to remember, more pleasant to do, and less boring! Thicker central lines show importance.! • Connected to the image because the brain works by association – not by separated disconnected lists @JennieVickers
  • 55. HOW TO MAIN BRANCHES As practice for drawing main branches: Draw two more main theme branches on the right side and put words onto the lines words connecting to the central image you have drawn for the Mind Map about “My Holiday”:! ! ! ! - DESTINATION?! ! - PACE?! ! Zeopard.com @JennieVickers
  • 56. Add other main theme branches, by arranging other ‘chapter headings’. ! Remember to PRINT the word! and make it fit the line. ! ! So all your main themes stand out clearly, and can trigger your subsequent connecting thoughts. HOW WHY Zeopard.com @JennieVickers
  • 57. Start to add a second level of thought. These words or images are linked to the main branch that triggered them. ! Remember, as before:! • Lines connect but are thinner! • Words printed but may be lower case Your initial words and images stimulate associations. Attach them to whatever word or image triggers them. Allow the ‘random’ movement of your thoughts, you do not have to ‘finish’ one branch before moving on. ! ! • Connected lines create relationships and a structure. They also demonstrate the level of importance, as from a branch to a twig. ! • The size and style of the letters provide additional data about their importance and meaning. Zeopard.com HOW WHY @JennieVickers
  • 58. Add a third or fourth level of data as thoughts come to you.! Use images as much as you can instead of, or in addition to, the words.! Allow your thoughts to come freely, meaning you ‘jump about’ the Mind Map as the links and associations occur to you. Add some of your own branches, words and images to this Mind Map. Your brain is like a multi-handed ball catcher. The Mind Map allows you to catch whatever ‘thought ball’ is thrown by your brain. Zeopard.com HOW WHY @JennieVickers
  • 59. ADDING MORE BRANCHES Zeopard.com Draw further main branches:! -ACCOMMODATION! -MONEY! -ACTIVITY! and now add some sub branches and even sub sub branches onto those new main branches ! Remember the rules. @JennieVickers
  • 60. Add a new dimension to your Mind Maps. Boxes add depth around the word or image. To make some important points stand out. ! ! The outlines will create unique shapes, such as those you find in clouds, and will aid your memory. ! • They can also show connection between branches by using the same colour outline ! • These provide immediate visual linking. They can also encourage follow-up and remind you of action you need to take. Sometimes enclose branches of a Mind Map with outlines in colour. ! • Enclose the shape of the branch! • Use different colours and styles! • Add arrows and codes between ! • Information to show the connection! Zeopard.com HOW WHY @JennieVickers NOW ADD PICTURES ONTO BRANCHES OR NEAR BRANCHES
  • 61. Make each Mind Map a little more ! ! ! ! ! Have fun! Add a little humour, exaggeration or absurdity wherever you can. Your eye / brain will be attracted to your
Mind Map.! It will be easier to remember.! It will be more attractive both to you
and others. ! ! Your brain will delight in getting the maximum enjoyment from this process. Your brain will then learn faster and recall more effectively. ! ! Planning becomes! more enjoyable. artistic colourfulbeautiful imaginative dimensional Zeopard.com HOW WHY @JennieVickers
  • 62. Finish off your first Mind Map with: • Colour • Humour • Dimension • Imagination Zeopard.com FINISHING YOUR FIRST MAP @JennieVickers
  • 63. Zeopard.com @JennieVickers ! ! ! I keep six honest serving-men
 (They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When
And How and Where and Who.
I send them over land and sea,
 I send them east and west;
But after they have worked for me,
 I give them all a rest.! ! ! Rudyard Kipling I KEEP SIX HONEST…
  • 65. Zeopard.com @JennieVickers Using a Mind Map to interview a new client Instructions: Grab the template at the back of the slides. Working with one person near you, decide quickly who is client and who is advisor and conduct a 3 minute interview.
  • 66. Zeopard.com @JennieVickers Using a Mind Map to interview a new client Instructions cont.: Advisor is going to ask questions guided by the six honest men and client is going to share with them an item off their bucket list. Catch the answers using keywords only on the map template, using colour if you have it and add some images.
