2. INTRODUCTION
• Listeria monocytogenes is a Gram positive intracellular bacteria having toxins called
as Listeriolysin-O (LLO),which is actually a cholesterol dependent cytolysin.
• This bacterium causes Circling Disease which has got neuronal manifestations with
micro abscess in brain and lymphocytic Leptomeningitis.
• The bacterium was named after Joseph Lister.
• Not 100% accurate.
• Tumbling motility at 25 degree centigrade is a feature of the organism.

3. Procedure
• Neural tissue isolates are taken from the suspected animal.
• Injected into conjunctival sac of rabbit or guinea pig.
• If at all the lab animal is getting a severe keratoconjunctivitis, then the test
sample is considered as Positive for Listeriosis.
