This document contains a series of true/false questions and short answer questions about different types of agriculture around the world. It addresses topics like the percentage of populations involved in farming, the origins of agriculture, dominant crops and practices in various regions, and how agriculture has changed over time and differs between developed and developing areas. Key agricultural practices and crops discussed include subsistence farming, rice in East Asia, slash-and-burn cultivation, pastoral nomadism, livestock ranching, and mixed crop-livestock farming with corn and soybeans in the US Midwest.
Breadfruit is an ancient domesticated cultigen & its origin, domestication & distribution must be considered within a geographic & cultural context.
It was first domesticated in the Western Pacific & spread by humans throughout the region beginning 3600 yrs. ago.
The breadfruit is believed to be native to a vast area extending from New Guinea through the Indo-Malayan Archipelago to western Micronesia.
The Bismarck Archipelago being the Centre of diversity for wild seeded forms of Artocarpus altilis (Parkinson) Fosberg.
Few-seeded and seedless forms occur throughout the Pacific Islands, with the greatest diversity found in the eastern Pacific in Polynesia. Seedless breadfruit has been widely distributed throughout the tropical world.
Propagating by seeds is not popular, as seeds lose viability quickly & the germination percentage is low.

Essential Role of Crop Landraces for World Food Security by S Alan Walters in...CrimsonpublishersMCDA
Cereal grain crops provide most of the energy calories for humans worldwide, and landraces of these crops remain deeply intertwined into the traditions and cultures of many of the world’s rural communities. However, due to recent new variety development activities resulting from the “Green Revolution”, landraces are in serious jeopardy of being totally lost within the next 50 years. The reduced use of landraces can be traced back to the beginnings of the “Green Revolution”, when there was a substantial worldwide increase in the use of new modern cereal crop varieties that provided increased productivity compared to the varieties that were currently in use that had limited genetic improvements.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
