Animals are classified into two main groups: vertebrates, which have a backbone, and invertebrates, which do not. Vertebrates include five categories: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals, while invertebrates encompass various species like arthropods and mollusks. Classification is also based on nutrition (carnivores, herbivores, omnivores) and reproduction methods (viviparous and oviparous).
