Asian elephants are smaller than African elephants, weighing around 13,250 pounds. They live in tropical forests in parts of Asia, though deforestation is reducing their habitat. Asian elephants eat around 300 pounds of plants like fruit, bark, crops and leaves per day. While there were once over 100,000 Asian elephants in the wild, there are now only around 30,000 remaining due to habitat loss and poaching. Conservation efforts aim to protect the Asian elephant from extinction.
