Rural, compact, dispersed, and urban settlements can be divided based on how humans live permanently. Rural settlements are where the majority of people depend on agriculture for livelihood and use locally available materials like hamlets and villages. Compact settlements have structures built very close together, usually along river banks or fertile plains, with common worship and social laws. Dispersed settlements have scattered structures in areas where the landscape is not suitable for living. Urban settlements have structures close together where most residents work in non-agricultural sectors like commerce, industry, and services.

 In early period people lived in caves.
 After agricultural revolution they started cultivation.
 As a result they settled nearby of his agricultural fields.

5. Settlements are those places where human
beings live permanently.
They can be divided as:
 Rural settlement

 Dispersed settlement
 Urban settlement

6. Majority of the population depend directly or indirectly on
agriculture for livelihood.
They build settlements making use of locally available raw
materials.
Hamlet, Village etc. are some type of rural settlements.

7.  Compact settlements are seen very close together.
 They formed on the bank of rivers or on fertile plains.
 Common worship and social law are the peculiarities.

8.  In place where physiographic features are not favourable
for people, they find out suitable places and build scattered
settlement.
