This document discusses motor bearing currents caused by common-mode voltages in inverters. It explains that PWM inverters introduce shaft voltages and bearing currents through parasitic capacitances in motors. 2-level inverters generate common-mode voltages with sharp edges that result in large bearing currents. 3-level inverters produce lower common-mode voltages and reduce bearing damage compared to 2-level inverters. Test results are presented showing 3-level inverters reduce shaft voltages and bearing currents.
This paper proposed a new sparce matrix converter with Z-source network to provide unity voltage transfer ratio. It is an ac-to-ac converter with diode-IGBT bidirectional switches. The limitations of existing matrix converter like higher current THD and less voltage transfer ratio issues are overcome by this proposed matrix converter by inserting a Z-source. Due to this Z-source current harmonics are totally removed. The simulation is performed for different frequencies. The simulation results are presented to verify the THD and voltage transfer ratio and compared with the existing virtual AC/DC/AC matrix converter. The experimental output voltage amplitude can be varied with the variable frequencies.

Power Quality Improvement Using Cascaded H-Bridge Multilevel Inverter Based D...IJERA Editor
Cascaded multilevel configuration of the inverter has the advantage of its simplicity and modularity over the
configurations of the diode-clamped and flying capacitor multilevel inverters. This paper presents a threephase,
five-level and seven level cascaded multilevel voltage source inverter based active filter for power line
conditioning to improve power quality in the distribution network. The DSTATCOM helps to improve the
power factor and eliminate the Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) drawn from a Non-Liner Diode Rectifier
Load (NLDRL). The compensation process is based on concept of p-q theory. A CHB Inverter is considered for
shunt compensation of a 11 kV distribution system. Finally a level shifted PWM (LSPWM) and phase shifted
PWM (PSPWM) techniques are adopted to investigate the performance of CHB Inverter. The results are
obtained through Matlab/Simulink software package.
Simulation of 3-phase matrix converter using space vector modulationIJECEIAES
This paper illustrates the simulation of 3-phase matrix converter using Space Vector Modulation (SVM). Variable AC output voltage engendered using matrix converter with bidirectional power switches controlled by appropriate switching pulse. The conventional PWM converter engenders switching common mode voltage across the load system terminals, which cause to common mode current and its leads to bearing failure in load drive. These problems can be rectified using SVM and which minimize the effect on the harmonic fluctuation in AC output voltage and stress on the power switch is reduced using bidirectional switch for proposed 3-phase matrix converter. The simulation results have been presented to validate the proposed system using matlab / simulink.
DC-link voltage balancing and control of qZ-source inverter fed induction mo...IJECEIAES
Poor performance of the motor drive system is caused when the direct currentlink (DC-link) capacitor voltages of the inverter are not sufficiently generated. This is mainly because of the various load torque changes and input voltage fluctuation. The qZ-source inverter operates with a fully shoot-through technique. This technique causes mismatching between the upper and lower DC-link capacitor voltages. Without capacitor voltage-balancing function, the desired DC-link capacitor voltages could not be provided or maintained when there are load and speed changes. A Sawtooth carrier-based simple boost triple-sixty-degree (TSD) pulse width modulation (PWM) technique is used to drive the qZ-source T-type inverter because this technique can give a more significant boost DC-link voltage than a traditional simple boost PWM technique. Proportional integral (PI) controller is applied for the DC-link voltage controller to achieve the fast response and less steady-state error. The simulation model was constructed for a 4 kW, 400 V, 1,400 rpm induction motor (IM) drive system used in rolling mill using MATLAB/Simulink with and without voltage balancing function. As a result, DC-link voltages of the qZ-source T-type inverter fed the induction motor drive system could be controlled using a capacitor voltage-balancing function and the output power of the motor from the simulation result is approximately equal to 4 kW

Simulation and Analysis of a D-STATCOM for Load Compensation and Power Facto...IJMER
Power Generation and Transmission is a complex process, requiring the working of many
components of the power system in tandem to maximize the output. One of the main components to form
a major part is the reactive power in the system. It is required to maintain the voltage to deliver the
active power through the lines. Loads like motor loads and other loads require reactive power for their
operation. To improve the performance of ac power systems, we need to manage this reactive power in
an efficient way and this is known as reactive power compensation. In developing countries like India,
where the variation of power frequency and many such other determinants of power quality are
themselves a serious question, it is very vital to take positive steps in this direction.
The work presented here illustrates a method to compensate for the load reactive power using a

Analysis and hardware implementation of five level cascaded H Bridge inverterIJERA Editor
The cascaded multilevel inverter (CMLI) has gained much attention in recent years due to its advantages in high
voltage and high power with low harmonics applications. A standard cascaded multilevel inverter requires n DC
sources for 2n+1levels at the output, where n is the number of inverter stages. This paper presents a topology to
control cascaded multilevel inverter that is implemented with multiple DC sources to get 2"+1_ 1 levels. Without
using Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique, the firing circuit can be implemented using Microcontroller
which greatly reduces the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and switching losses. To develop the model of a
cascaded hybrid multilevel inverter, a simulation is done based on MATLAB/SIMULINK software and
hardware implementation was also done. Their integration makes the design and analysis of a hybrid multilevel
inverter more complete and detailed.
