Galileo versus the Catholic Church
Letters on the Solar Spots was made public in 1613. Copernicus s theory was openly discussed in
this letter (Galilei and Drake, 145). Copernicus proposed than an axis revolving Earth
circumnavigated around the heart of the universe, the Sun (Andrade, 120). Father Lorini, a
Dominican friar and professor of ecclesiastical history in Florence, was among the first to
criticize Galileo for his Copernican views (Linder). The Copernican theory contravened the
belief of the Holy Scripture that the Earth was in the middle of the universe (Andrade, 125).
Lorini used Joshua 10:13 and Isaiah 40:22 as support. Joshua 10:13 states that So the sun stood
still in the midst of heaven . Isaiah 40:22 talks about the heavens stretched out as a curtain above
the circle of the earth (Linder). Galileo s Letter to Castelli in December of 1613 was a reply to
the condemnation he received due to his beliefs about the Copernicus theory. Galileo proposed in
the letter that certain things in the Scripture were not to be taken literally. This letter only increased
the amount of criticism towards Galileo (Andrade, 125). Father Lorini then took the drastic step of
getting the Catholic Church involved. Lorini sent an altered copy of Letter to Castelli to the
Roman Inquisition. Lorini altered the text of the letter to make it appear that Galileo directly
pronounced the Scriptures as false. Lorini was not the only enemy of Galileo however. Father
Tommasco Caccini was also a staunch opponent of

A Analysis On Wound Management
Wound management is one of the cornerstones for nursing care however, effective wound care
extends far beyond the application of the wound itself. Nurses may be required to assess, plan,
implement, and evaluate wound care; therefore, order to fill these roles it s critical to have an
understanding of the several different areas of wound care such as, integumentary system,
classification of wounds, wound procedures, and documentation. Knowledge in each of these areas
will allow nurses to make well informed decisions about wound care, and as a result play an active
part in wound healing.
Integumentary System
The integumentary system or skin is our body s largest organ, which weighs 20 pounds or more,
accounting for about 16% of total body weight (Thibodeau, 2014, p.93). According to Thibodeau
(2014 p. 145) the: number of structures fitting into 1 square inch of skin: 500 sweat glands; more
than 1000 nerve endings; yards of tiny blood vessels; nearly 100 sebaceous glands; 150 sensors for
pressure, 75 for hot, 10 for cold; and millions of cells.
The integumentary system can be broken down into three main categories the Epidermis, Dermis,
and Subcutaneous layer each of which contain certain specialized skin derivatives including hair,
nails, and several kinds of glands.
The outer most layer of the skin or Epidermis contains stratified squamous, keratinized, epithelial
tissue; which lacks blood vessels, and the cells are packed closely together (Sloane, 1994, p.85)

How Is Harold Godwinson Brave
Harold Godwinson was not fit to be king. Obnoxiously beastly and unwanted he cared nothing
for the people. Lying and cheating were his norm. When he wanted something Harold was
willing to do anything to obtain it. What was it that he craved? Power. Not being at all brave, in
fact, quite the opposite, Harold was always saying stupid stuff to make people leave him alone,
Harold was not at all brave, moreover, he was a poor military officer, it should be obvious that he
was lacking much of the experience required to take on kingly duties.
Harold Godwinson was full of trickery. William, you are going to become king Harold lied, I

The Geographic Landscape Of The African Continent
When it comes to discussing the geographic landscape of the African continent people are quick
to overlook the important role that soil has played in the development of cultures and civilizations
in Africa because it can be so easily overshadowed by Africa s other geographic features such as its
rivers, mountains, deserts andgrasslands. However, to ignore soilis undoubtedly a mistake because
African soils cannot be separated from African history (Showers 118). Soils are literally the
foundation of life, used for farming, building houses, making pottery, and mined for their mineral
deposits. They are in themselves, historical bodies and they have interacted with human history
since its beginning. (Showers 118). While looking for information on the soil of Africait is not
uncommon to find descriptions such as African soils are indeed poor (Bohannan 23) while being
presented with the seemingly paradoxical fact that By far the greatest number of Africans are
farmers. (Bohannan 43). This paper will examine how it is possible for Africa to be a continent
consisting of such poor soil yet be full of such a rich history of farming that persists into present
day. It will explore the general characteristics of African soil, how humans have historically
interacted with soil, and the way that outsiders have used generalizations about Africa s soil to
perpetuate Western misconceptions.
When attempting to gain insight into the general characteristics of African soil it is

Human Fears of Biological Science
Biology, genetic engineering, research, humans and animals all have one thing in common; they all
will potentially start the spread of the worst viral disease known to humanity. AIDS, a viral disease
of the human, is spreading rapidly across the world. Also, parasites, rabies, and toxoplasma gondii
are all potential factors in the humanbody takeover. Zombie films today help show how the world
will be when this happens. Blood, saliva, and biting will all be known as curse words to society.
Society in one s eyes will never be the same. Research done on animals, which start all diseases,
will be the beginning to the life we never dreamed of. Biological science is a potential threat to

Whereas microparasites can have highly visible effects, diseases caused by macroparasites are
often more subtle, yet can still impact the host at the population level.*** Parasites may have less
of a threat to the human race compared to viruses, but they still pose a threat to the human and its
society for spreading to others. One particular parasite infection in the human race now is
toxoplasma gondii, by the protozoan parasite. It is one of the most common parasitic infections of
man and other warm blooded animals. Nearly one third of humanity has already been exposed to
this parasite. In most adults it does not cause serious illness, but it can cause blindness and mental
retardation in infected children and devastating disease in immunocompromised individuals. Most
infections in humans are asymptomatic but at times the parasite can produce devastating disease.
Once more, the parasite has probable cause to become a disease, even deadly ones. Toxoplasma
gondii is already existent and spreading through many countries. It is an infectious parasite
therefore, is has all the characteristics a parasite inquires. Not only can it rapidly spread, but also
through higher population levels. If the toxoplasma gondii were to spread, and the parasite inhabits
a new domain, it could become more prevalent and start to take over its host. . It has been
understood that introduced parasites can directly cause the extinction of native hosts. It is the

Effects Of Asthma On Children s Asthma
As children grow, so does their need to develop a feeling of self worth and a sense of self when
compared to other children in physical appearance, academics, athletics, and social interactions
(Ball et al., 2015, p.208). The effects of asthma can play a direct role on how the child develops in
these areas. Factors that affect asthmaare being exposed to triggers and the medication
management. The child is dependent on parents for initial management education of asthma
treatment (Silva Mendez Barros, 2013, p.1002). The parents beliefs about the adherence of
medications have shown to have an influence on the child receiving the medication as prescribed
(Yilmaz et al., 2012, p. 285). Parents most common concerns were about the amount of
medication and the possible long term effects (Gilchrist et al., 2012, pp.553 554). Often parents
are aware of their child s asthma problems but seem hesitant or unwilling to voice their concerns
to a physician (Orrell Valente, Jarlsberg, Rait, Thyne, Rubash, Cabana, 2007, p.388). The inability
to communicate with the physician can leave the parent with a lack of knowledge and
preconceived notions: The lack of knowledge about asthma has been associated with decreased
adherence to prescribed treatment plans (Silva Mendez Barros, 2013, p.1003). When inhaled
medications are not adhered to, children with asthma have an increased rate of exacerbation
(Yilmaz et al., 2012, p. 282). The symptoms can be very frightening for both the child

The Employment Laws Of The Workplace
With the modern complexity of employment laws, the necessity for recording a conversation or
meeting in the workplace often presents itself. With today s technology, the opportunity
presents itself more easily than ever before. However, because employees rights of privacy are
severely limited in the workplace, what, if anything, may an employee legally record in the
workplace? Any lawful permitted use of electronic recording devices by employees in the
workplace will likely be for protected concerted activity and provided by В§ 7 of the National
Labor Relations Act ( NLRA ).
As mentioned above, in the private workplace, the employer practically has absolute power in
limiting the conduct, activity, and rights of employees. A fundamental precept of labor law is that
working time is for work. Since audio and video recording, as well as photography have great
potential for consuming work time and distracting employees from accomplishing their work tasks,
many employers promulgate policies which disallow such recording.
In a recent case in December of 2015, and one of first impression, the National Labor Relations
Board ( NLRB or Board ) issued a decision in Whole Foods Market, Inc., 363 NLRB No. 87 (Dec.
24, 2015), finding for the first time that blanket or unqualified employer policies which prohibit
employees from recording company meetings or conversations with other employees are unlawfully
overbroad. However, the Board stated that certain circumstances do exist

Religious Freedom And Separation Of Church And State Essay
After many frustrations and disputes arising out of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the termination
of Bill Establishing A Provision for Teachers of Christian Religion and the new Virginia Statue for
Religious Freedom mark a necessary and significant turn. The people of Virginia can finally savor
the religious freedom that they longed for. I shall hereby applaud the efforts pushed forth by the
honorable James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and so many others who shared the common stance
on religious freedom and separation of church and state. However, the achievement seemed
provincial when placed in the context of the larger United States. The new nation is at great stake
because the congregational church in Massachusetts disallows and persecutes any deviation from
its core religious interpretation; Jews are perceived as the enemies of the Christ by a large group of
people; and the Catholic minority in many states still suffers. Therefore, absolute religious freedom
and the separation of church and state shall be guaranteed in the new constitution in order to
maintain the supremacy of Godover the state and purity of the God we trust, annihilate the violence,
persecution and tyrannies the God disdains, uphold the God given natural rights we once fought for
and construct this blessed new nation to be free and prosperous.
God is the divine creator of the universe whereas civil laws are the derivative of humankind. In
other words, Christian Religion pre existed any form of state or

Foucault Discipline And Punishment
When reading this piece, I noticed that book is all about how important and integrated prison is a
main part of our society around the world. It shows how it is impossible to get rid of them, mostly
because of the fact that there is no alternative to prisons really out there, and just like the title
suggests prisons are the main form of Discipline and Punishment. Foucault s main argument is that
modern society, mostly referencing France, are based on the idea of individual liberty. As prison
deprives people of their liberty choices and leaving them in confinement leads to it being the most
ethical punishment. Most importantly, the systems of discipline, and observation that go around
inside a prison extend outside its walls. Although Foucault... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I feel that There are two images, then, of discipline. At one extreme, the discipline blockade, the
enclosed institution, established on the edges of society, turned in wards towards negative
functions: arresting evil, breaking communications, suspending time. At the other extreme, with
panopticons, is the discipline mechanism: a functional mechanism that must improve the exercise
of power by making it lighter, more rapid, more effective, a design of subtle coercion for a society
to come. The movement from one project to the other, from a schema of exceptional discipline to
one of a generalized surveillance, rests on a historical transformation: the gradual extension of the
mechanisms of discipline throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, their spread
throughout the whole social body, the formation of what might be called in general the disciplinary
society. (209) Which indeed is a very large mouth full. Although this is a lot for one quote I think it
was essential to quote in the explanation of this paper. The reason being is that it shows two
extremes on the spectrum of punishment and discipline. One being solitary confinement or
discipline blockade or the other being Panopticons formulated by Mr.Foucault. Panopticons being a
form of reforming prisoners for

The Importance Of The Kumbh Mela
The Kumbh Mela is a diverse pilgrimage of the Hindu faith. A ritual is something which occurs
on the daily for many people. It can be religious, secular or just something which is done regularly.
Rituals no matter what they are, create a connection to something which allows emotion for the
adherant. This multimodal is solely focused on the Hindu pilgrimage, Kumbh Mela, the purpose it
offers to adherants, the key beliefs and religious identity that connect adherants to it, lived
experiences of past attendees and formal teachings. The Kumbh Mela pilgrimage is significant to
adherants as it plays an important role in the Hindu faith and it influences adherents with religious
traditions by assisting them to transition into living out the core values / traditions thoroughly.
The Kumbh Mela is a pilgrimage which offers many rituals to religiously or spiritually inclined
and non religiously inclined individuals, while maintaining the lived experiences for some. There
are many reasons why adherants attend the Kumbh mela. The main reason is to cleanse their s
and their ancestors past sins. They do this by bathing in the river ganges. The Kumbh Mela
occurs once every 12 years in Ujjain, India. It is the largest spiritual and religious gathering in the
world with usually between 80 120 million attendees. The pilgrimage runs for 55 days and there
are different bathing times for certain groups of people. Once the adherant has bathed in the river

Essay on Advertising Fast Food to Children Under The Age...
How much do the fast food companies spend for advertising to children in the United States? In
2009, The Fast food companies spent over $ 4.2 billion in the fast food industry alone to market on
television, the internet, social media sites, etc (Brownell, 2009). This amount of money
demonstrated that advertisingto children is big business for companies, but it affects children
directly, who are innocent of future generations. The purpose of this essay is to convince legislators
to consider banning the advertising of fast foodto children under the age of 12 in children s

The television advertising targeted at children is harmful. The Journal of the American Medical
Association has said children between ages of two and seventeen watch an annual average of
15,000 to 18,000 hours of television, compared with 12,000 hours spent per year in school
(Beacon Press, 2000). This indicates that children watch television for too many hours, so the
advertising companies target children to increase the number of people, watching their
programs. We can see from the above that the fast food industry spends a lot of money to just
advertise to children increase their profit. Also, based on the research of the Food Advertising to
Children and Teen Scores, show that the average preschooler between the ages 2 to 5 see almost
three fast food advertisements every day. The children between the ages 6 to 11 see three and a
half advertisements for each day, and teenagers see almost five advertisements for every day
(Yale University s Rudd Center, 2009). In other words, average children ages 2 to 11 see fast food
advertisements approximately 3 times for each day. If children watch advertisements from
television every day, within one year children will have watched fast food advertisements
approximately 2,000 times a year. This is a very serious amount that should cause concern with our
young children.

Maya Lin Vietnam Veterans Memorial Analysis
1.The artist of the memorial, Maya Lin, is an American of Asian descent who is famous for her
sculptures and land art. Her most famous work, the Vietnam Memorial, was chosen in a contest,
and her designs both mesmerized and angered many people. Since them, works and designs she has
created for competitions have been mainly memorials and remembrances based on historical events.
Her works are intended to use the natural texture and geology of the space around the monument to
its advantage in its creation.

7.When Lin won the competition for the designing of the monument, a lot of sceptics managed to
successfully take apart her design when she unveiled it. Some critics claimed it looked like a scar;
an embarrassment for United States (as it was moving along with the hill it was created on, and
therefore looked hiding), while others saw something that was trying to hide from the spotlight.
Somehow, some critics saw Lin s Chinese heritage as an issue for this design this work (but how
one can make a successful argument for this theory is beyond me). Nonetheless, the project
continued and the monument was erected, along with other sculptures. Lin had to negotiate with
the creators of this work and allow monumental sculptures to be produced. However, she was
worried that these sculptures would take away attention from the monument she designed, so she
negotiated that the two monuments be kept relatively separate (there was also a Women s
Memorial for the work that women conducted during the war). The meaning and appreciation for
this work definitely managed to gain many followers, as this work become more appreciated.

How Does Watching Tv Corrupts The Mind
When people generally think of television, most may assume it rots the mind. Freelance writer
Rachel Krantz not only believes that TV is not useful for your mind, it may kill you, decrease your
chances of having kids, ruin the ones you do have, and possibly turn you violent. Could any of this
have happened to me as I was binge watching The Simpsons from seasons one to eight during the
summer? I initially thoughtthat this show was prone to dumb me down as I did this, but instead it
enlightened me through its clever writing. Even with gags as dumb as an old man hurt by a
football thrown to his groin, I felt as if no other show was as thoughtful and full of heart as The
Simpsons. Despite that Krantz s claims are backed by academic studies and research on television, it
should be the least concern for our minds. Television does not rot our minds; it intellectually
challenges and aptly adjusts our minds depending on how we use it.
The further time a kid spends watching television, the larger their brains grow. That seems great,
although apparently this is considered unhealthy for them. A recent Japanese study reveals that
as kids between ages 5 through 18 spend, on average, two hours of watching TV per day, certain
areas of their brains were growing. The rise in brain volume of these kids was linked to a fall in
their verbal IQ. However, the data in this study was not clear if TV watching caused this (Sanders).

Moralism In Les Miserables
Jean Valjean, the central figure in Victor Hugo s Les Miserables, has dual meanings. In real life,
he is typical figure who suffers from being oppressed and hurt, and struggle against the society;
in the spiritual realm, he is a moralist who has a noble personality and benevolent spirit. His
tragic fate has let him experience three stages of development, including the hatred for the
human society, the recovery of human nature and finally moral sublimation. In the first stage, he
is hatred to the human and the law and further to all things, and he performs a constant fierce
and is ready to harm all people. This is derived from his prison experience. He was sentenced to
19 years of hard labor for stealing a piece of bread and later several prison breaks. In the prison,
he judges himself, and then he judges the society, the law, and God, and he became the man who
is not afraid of all things. After his release, he firstly wants to rely on his own for a living, but the
society blocked him from all the way. This unfair punishment makes him determine to be evil,
with a heart full of the hatred of society, then the hatred of the human race, then the hatred of
creation, and which manifests itself by a vague, incessant, and brutal desire to do harm to some
living being, no matter whom (p.104). His tough and unruly personality as well as hostility to
human society let him steal the silverware in from Bishop Myriel who offers him a place to sleep.

Identification Of An Unknown Bacterium

Due: April 14, 2015
Introduction When we speak of the word bacteria some individuals may not recognize how large
of a role these tiny organisms play in our everyday lives. Some may jump to the conclusion that
bacteria are related to the spread of germs or sickness among the human population. Most microbes
are harmless or beneficial (Matthews, 2015) and a large majority of these tiny microbes are
extremely important in order to maintain the balance of living organisms and chemicals in our
environment (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2013). The importance of understanding microbes is not only
important in a microbiology lab setting. There are a plethora of reasons for knowing and
understanding the identity and function of microorganisms. For example, in the medical and
health science fields it is important to have an over all understanding of microbes and their
functions, in order to distinguish the causative agent of disease in a patient (Tortora et al., 2013).
This allows health professionals to treat their patients safely and efficiently. Microbes also play a
critical role in the food industry, recycling matter, and fighting disease and infection (Tortora et al.,
2013). Most microbes are harmless or beneficial (Matthews, 2015). By staying educated and
continuing to increase our knowledge about the significance and functions of microbes in our

America s westward expansion and it challenges elements of the myth constructed around this

b)Stagecoach was the most critically acclaimed of several major studios 1939 Westerns that
historians credit with raising the genre into big budget production from the rut of B studio, B
movie status (Bernstein 300). Unlike the other classical Hollywood cinema, Ford chose western
frontier as the open landscape for shooting. What s more, Ford tried to cut dialogues to the
minimum and focused on actions, showing how actors react to one another. Certainly, as a
classical Hollywood film, Stagecoach reflects Ford s appreciation of America s westward
expansion by showing chances for democratic life on the frontier. With the aim of specification
contradictory beliefs, Ford made fully use of mise en scГЁne and cinematography, such as setting

Knights Of The Middle Ages
The word chivalry originates from the Old French word chevalerie which can be translated to
skill in riding a horse . Only the men who could skillfully control the strength and speed of a
horse were likely to survive in combat. Over time the word came to stand for much more, in
particular, a code of behavior, conduct and ethics to which all knights were held. These knights
were bound by a code of honor. Each knighthad to swear that he would defend the weak, the poor,
widows, orphans, and the oppressed. He was to be courteous, especially to women; brave; loyal
to his leaders; and concerned about the welfare of his subordinates, or those of lesser rank and

Archbishop Thomas Beckett s shrine is there and it has become the most important place in the
country for pilgrims to visit. The Knight is going on this pilgrimage to Canterbury to render
thanks (Chaucer 5) to God for keeping his son and he safe and alive during the wars. The Knight
has a religious and moral obligation that is partly based on his oath to serve God. Almost every
European knight was quick to protect the church and to fight its enemies.
The Knight s striking military career is considered prestigious and esteemed. The Knight has
fought in fifteen mortal battles (Chaucer 4) all over the world. He fought in Prussia, Lithuania,
Granada, North Africa, Anatolia, and Russia. His devotion to his career brings attention to the
significance of fighting for the Knight, it is during his violent interactions with others, that his
loyalty to the knightly code should be most apparent (n.a. par. 2). The Knight s devotion to his
work in the military can be assumed by how Chaucer describes his appearance when he begins his
pilgrimage. In contrast to his son, the Squire, who wears fine clothing embroidered like a meadow
bright and full of freshest flowers, red and white (Chaucer 5), the Knight, Chaucer reveals, is not
gaily dressed (Chaucer 5) which divulges that

Las Vegas Escorts Essay
What sets Escorts Las Vegas apart from the sea of sources for female companionship? For
starters, we align with women who lead dynamic lifestyles outside of their work as an escort in
Vegas. We ensure they are well rounded so they bring something more to the table than their
striking good looks. Outer beauty captures the eye, but inner beauty and charisma establish a gal
s true degree of desirability. We strive to put forth perfection, and our dedication to excellence
established our status as the escort service Las Vegas residents and guests rely on. This city has
our heart, and our entertainers hearts as well, making them the perfect companions for anyone
who aspires to make the most out of their Sin City adventure. #### Stringent Standards One of
the most common complaints about independent Vegas escorts is that they often fail to come
through in all the ways in which they promised. When we are part of your plan, there are no
hiccups. We say this with confidence because ladies profiled here appreciate and adhere to our
strict criterion. High class Vegas escorts are the sort heedful men want to meet, as they
recognize the dangers associated with those who are not overseen by an agency. The truth is,
there are too many variables when there is not an agency ensuring a flawless arrangement. You
should value your resources as much as you do your good time, and if for some reason, you are not
well pleased by the girl who knocks on your door, you are encouraged to phone

Essay about Worldviews
Introduction:
In this essay, I will critically discuss the statement of worldviews is essential for critical thinking in
terms of learning at university. I will use my own experiences, Northedge, Bizzell, Hobson and
Weston s readings, as well as Veitch, Christensen and Thompson s lectures to support my thesis and
main points, in terms of my life and experiences learning at university in a diverse culture. The
thesis of my essay is we, as students, need to have our own worldview and learn to gain knowledge

knowledge or things we learn at university, by applying critical thinking to recognise our

People, who have different worldview and background from particular culture, move to a new
country with different worldview and culture, known as academic; they typically have common
issue in communicating and studying with the other people, who have academic worldviews. As
a result, they are experiencing the cultural differences. Thiele (2010) has mentioned in her
lecture in TLC120 that a way of seeing, is also a way of not seeing (Thiele, 2010). She explains
that the way people see the world do not mean that we can see the other way of the world. As a
result, we often could not see the world clearly because everyone has different ways of seeing the
world, due to the cross cultural interaction and changes (Thiele, 2010). She also describes her
experiences in teaching some Japanese students who faced the cross cultural differences studying at

academic worldview in Japan, compare to Australian s academic culture. Thiele (2010) has pointed

Women s Property Rights
Throughout history, whether women had property rights was a significant indicator of women s
status. Women who had property rights were able to distinguish their own property from those
of her husband s and were able to create a separate property inheritance line. This gave space for
women to have their own heir and thus giving them more power. Women s status had declined
throughout medieval Japan because property rights were taken away from them. Women were no
longer independent and were restricted in many ways. However, despite the fact that women
were not able to inherit property, some women were still able to have power managing the
properties. The property rights of women of warrior status changed drastically. The establishment
of the house system during the later Kamakura period took away power from women. In the early
Kamakura period women as daughters were able to inherit freely just as sons. Tonomura provides
an example in her article that, In the early Kamakura period, daughter had as good a chance of
being included in the division of family property as did sons, to the extent that a father would grant
land with the stewardship title to Nagaharume [daughter] s child in her womb, whose sex is

As Eugene McNamara stated in his essay Holden Caulfield as Novelist , Holden, of J.D.
Salinger s novel Catcher in the Rye, had met with long strand of betrayals since he left Pencey
Prep. These disappointments led him through the adult world with increasing feelings of
depression and self doubt, leading, finally to his mental breakdown. Holden s first betrayal was
that of his memory and innocence by an egotistical peer. At Pencey Prep, he roomed with a student
named Stradlater; the epitome of a teenage jock. Stradlater was openly very vain; as Holden stated
as he watched Stradlater gaze at himself in the mirror, he was madly in love with himself. He

after he leaves Stradlater and Pencey Prep is a betrayal of his childish dreams of greatness and
celebrity. As he enters the elevator of a New York City hotel, the elevator boy asks him if he
wants a good time. Holden agrees, as he is starting to feel pretty sexy and all (92), being his first
official chance to live up to his dreams of sexiness and manliness. His mind even starts to
wander to his grand fantasy of Caulfield and His Magic Violin (93) in which he is the most
adored man in all the world. He never, however, lives up to any of these egotistical illusions. His
disappointment comes knocking at the door in the form of a young girl named Sunny. The
minute she undresses, Holden feels odd and uncomfortable. He know[s] that you re supposed to
feel pretty sexy when somebody gets up and pulls their dress over their head (95), but he just felt
embarrassed for her. His ego and dreams come crashing down, as his night is not of good times
and achievement, but of a too young girl who is as nervous as he. It was quite depressing for him
to realize that the adult world was made up not of the movie like dreams he had entertained for so
long, but of timid, depressing reality.

The Predators And Prey Species
Abstract:
It is important to know information about the predators and prey species in an ecosystem. The
focus of predator management is to minimize predation using nonlethal and lethal methods.
Carnivores are vital for biological systems. Removing predators that eat the prey will cause a
decline in the plants biomass. Problems with predation can be heavily influences by humans.
Impacts on predators or prey can be from global warming, habitat loss, War, etc. Adult
porcupines are one of the many species that are affected by global warming. Any prey species
that molts to white pelage early in the winter due to global warming may expose themselves to
predators easier because, if there is a heat spell, white fur will not be effective camouflage with
loss of the snow. Other contributors for the decline of prey can be from drought which could
dampen the amount of available resources or from interspecific completion for a common resource.
There are some ethic and non ethic methods used for managing predators. Both methods can be
used but, are better at different scenarios. Using lethal methods is controversial because it can
conflict with public opinions, laws and regulations, animal rights, etc. Predator management is
costly depending on the action taken. Economic loss in agricultural livestock from predators is one
of the main conflicts that is dealt with to manage predators.

Predator control has probably been used from ancient times ever since we began the

Problems With Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is very delicate topic when considering its relationship with child development.
Children who are present within a family experiencing domestic violence are likely to experience
problem integrating as they grow up and are probable to be significantly affected as a result of
seeing one of their tutors being aggressed. Many children who see domestic violencehappening in
their homes typically believe that they are the reason for differences between their parents. In
addition to this, these individuals are exposed to becoming victims of child abuseand constantly live
in a state of fear.
In order to understand how domestic violence affects children, one needs to gain a more complex
comprehension of the idea of domestic violence. A common definition of domestic violence is
any episode of threatening behavior, aggression or abuse between two grown individuals who are
in a relationship or who are members of the same family, with no regard to their gender or sexuality
(Sterne Poole 3).
While seeing domestic violence happening can be traumatic even for an adult, matters are much
more troubling when considering a child s perspective. Domestic violence is much more common
than some might be inclined to believe and most schools are probable to have children who have
seen it happen at home. For many, home is a stressful, unpredictable place; the family is a source
of conflict and some children live in an almost constant state of fear about the next violent

Peter the Great ruled 1689 and 1725 continuing many cultural aspects of Russia, but making
changes and further advancing the state. Peter traveled to Western Europe incognito to
westernize Russia further and brought back hundreds of artisans from Europe and educated
himself in Western science and technology. An example of a change in culture to westernize by
Peter was the abolition of the whip giving practice. In upper class marriages it was customary for
the father of the bride to give the groom a whip, symbolizing the control of men over women.
This change in Russian illustrates how drastic a change was necessary for Russia to westernize
and it is likely many people were not accepting of this change as it had been engrained in Russian
culture for hundreds of years. Another cultural change was the requirement that all boyars cut of
their beards, pigtails, and long sleeves that were Mongol style and had been adopted by the

Funeral Rites Of Misenus
The introduction of Misenus into the beginning Book VI of the Aeneid demonstrates the Roman
belief that a dead body brings pollution: both physically and spiritually. In order to combat this
Aeneas is instructed to carry him to his place of rest and lay him in a tomb. Then you must bring
black cattle to begin purification . This purification ritual exemplifies the notion that a dead body
brings pollution to the community it is found within. The in depth funeral rites described in Book
VI in regards to Misenus exemplify the modern Roman belief and rituals regarding death. First
they lit a large pyre with Misenus armour placed on top. Secondly they heated water cauldrons to
wash and anointed his body and then placed him in his familial purple robes: further exemplifying
the importance of body purification. Then there are descriptions of lighting the pyre and offerings
being burnt: incense, sacrificial food, and bowls filled with oil. The ashes are then cooled with
wine and placed in a bronze casket that is then carried around the comrades thrice. Finally, in this
description, a mound is made and in this case called Mount Misenus: a lasting memory. The funeral
rites of Misenus demonstrate important, modern, roman qualities. In the Bronze Age, when the
myth of Aeneasis set, traditions toward burialand death were different. The fact that Virgildepicts
this ancient, mythological funeral in an Augustan Rome manner exemplifies the importance of this

How Did Walt Disney Affect The World
If I say the word Disney , most people would automatically think of Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan,

s best known studio, Walt Disney Animation, wasn t always a billion dollar organization, but still,
after almost 100 years, manages to capture the hearts and captivate the eyes of the world. In this
expository essay, I will explain how Disney began, how it grew, and how it still manages to affect
the world, even after Walt Disneys death. Disney, the best known studio in Hollywood, California,
started small. Walt Disney, and his brother Roy, produced many short live action and animated
films called the Alice Comedies in the back of a small office from Holly Vermont Reality in Los
Angeles in 1923, with the rent only $10 a month. By month four, the staff moved to a larger
building, which read Disney Bros. Studio on the window. One year later, Walt and Roy moved
into a Hyperion Avenue lot in Los Angeles ( The Walt Disney Studios History ). After failed
attempts to make the audience enjoy the Alice Comedies, Disney created Oswald the Lucky
Rabbit. Universal Pictures distributed it, but Disney lost the contract in February of 1928 to
Charles Mintz. In 1928, Disney created a mouse, whom his wife wanted to call Mortimer , but he

Crime Scene Investigation Of The National Forensics Academy
The National Forensics Academy was full of multiple dimensions of crime scene investigation that
I had not even thought about nor learned about in the past. The world of crime scene investigation
is interesting to me because of all these aspects and because they are ever changing, and new and
better methods are being discovered. Throughout the academy I learned about these aspects in
detail and how there are various methods within each aspect. The aspects that I learned were how to
photograph a crime scene, finger printing, foot impressions, crime scene sketches, bloodspatter
analysis, bullet holes, bones, and digging up a grace to recover a body. These aspects work
together to investigate and recreate crime scenes.
A part of crime scene investigation that I had never put much thought into was the photography.
Taking photos of everything at a scene and the methods of how to photograph scenes are
important in working a scene. I had never had the opportunity to work with the type of cameras
that we used at the academy and I was unaware of the work that goes into photographing a
picture. Before taking a photo one must adjust the settings including the F stop, ISO, and shutter
speed of the camera. In order to take a picture of a moving object you must adjust the shutter
speed so it can capture the image clear in its state of movement. Also leaving the shutter speed
open for a long time can capture very clear photos of a still object if the camera is placed on a

Information And Communication Technology In The 21st Century
Technology in an educational context is the ability to shape and change the physical world or
knowledge by the manipulation of material and tools. Education in the 21st century has greatly
benefited from the improvements provided by information and communication technology, visual
and audio content that can be sent immediately to any part of the world (Bartlett Burton, 2012).
The amount of economic resources a region or community has dictates its availability. This has
meant information can be more easily shared, students using electronic devices are enabled to
access information on any subject or topic. Educators can more easily share ideas or discuss
concepts, allowing them to deliver content using a variety of different electronic formats in the
classroom. Technology has become a major component in personalised learning, this is where the
method of providing information and the system used is built around the student, previously the
system was built for the learner which they were required to fit into (Bolstad et al., 2012). The
introduction of technology into the classroom has also changed how curriculum and pedagogy is
delivered to students in the 21st century.
When comparing new and traditional teaching practices from the 20th century, analysis need to be
completed on how curriculum and pedagogy have changed to accommodate this. Traditionally
schools were seen to be using the scholar academic ideology, that is the idea that culture has
accumulated knowledge over time

The Articles Of The Constitution
Throughout America s history, the very confederation of her people has been weak and even
suffered near fatal blows, and yet that nation still stands today. However, the very backbone of the
democracy which so many revere, the Constitution, was once abhorred and feared as a much
stronger government than such a democracy should allow. The government, at the time, was inept
and subject to the rule of each near independent state, not able to tax without begging, nor able to

Native Architects And Architectures Introduced
As a Chinese immigrant who lived in the USA for four years, I have been amazed by the western
architects and architectures introduced in lectures and textbook. Buildings like Sagrada Familia,
Guggenheim Museum, Burj Al Arab, and even the White House have attracted my interested

recognizable architects who designed marvelous buildings, this special Chinese family attracts extra
attention. Maybe a highly skilled architect is honorable, but a loyal architect family who devoted
their generations to architecture deserves the respect from all architects. In the following
paragraphs, I will describe this family and their work, as well as their importance and contribution
to the history of architecture.
Yang Shi Lei , meaning the Lei style , was a name for Lei family who worked as royal architects
over 200 years of Qing dynasty. In the end of 17th century, like many artisans, Fada Lei came to
Beijing and started working to build the palaces for Qing dynasty. Due to his outstanding building

Human Rights Violations
Many people don t have the privilege of living a life where they can take advantage of their
human rights and feel secure. All around the world human rights violation occur on a daily basis
and many people aren t aware of the struggles other people in other countries go through or people
disregard these violations. In the Central African Republic, women and girls are used as sexual
slaves, are being raped and beaten as a weapon of war between the Seleka and anti balaka. Another
instance of, human rightsviolation is that in Egypt many people are being imprisoned for
supporting and or being part of the Lgbt campaign. In these two countries, human rights are being
neglected and people aren t treated and disregarded as humans.
In the Central African Republic, women and girls between the ages of 10 and 75 are being raped,
kidnapped, and used as sexual slaves as a tactic of war by the Muslim Seleka and the Christian and
animist militia called anti balaka from early 2013 to mid 2017. According to the article They said
we are their Slaves by Smita Sharma it discusses that in some cases of sexual slavery the Seleka or
anti Balaka committed sexual violence and exerted ownership over victims, women or girls who
experienced multiple rapes over a period of weeks. 17 women and 4 girls say that they experienced
violence by an armed group that included capturing women, beating them and other physical abuse.
All these cases happened in the capital, Bangui, and around the towns of

Who Marcion Is Important For The Development Of Early...
Not all would call him a Christian scholar, but he was the most interesting second century Christian
and also the most detrimental to the development of early Christianity and his name was Marcion.
In this essay I will be explaining who Marcion is and why he was so important for the development
of early Christianity. To start off my research paper my first resource was by Peter Head, The
Foreign God And The Sudden Christ : Theology And Christology In Marcion s GospelRedaction, in
which he talks about how many people back in the second century would not call Marcion a good
Christian, leader, or a reformer but was later a great influence for the New Testament. Head then
briefly introduces Marcion and who he was. Also, Peter Head... Show more content on

My next source by David William, Reconsidering Marcion s Gospel, addresses in his article that
Marcion was gathered from multiple different resources. Marcion s gospel was not written into
the text and was basically the same thoughts as Paul just with a few different ideas. Williams
also states his three general findings that he has as he studied Marcion thought out his life.
Around 144 AD Marcion expressed his beliefs to everyone and not just to the church. Most
people at that time thought that his beliefs were outrageous and they were frowned upon in that
society. Marcion still believed what he thought was right and created his own church. Even
though he knew that giving his opinion on religion was not a good idea during that time period
he still did and got followers that believed in what he was creating. Everyone that followed his
lead and believed the same thing that he did were called Marcionites. (Head) According to
David Williams not much information on Marcion s gospel is found. Most of the information is
gathered up from references and quotes found in other literatures. (Williams) Marcion s gospel
that they have pieced together are said to look exactly like Luke s gospel. If Marcion was asked
the question himself, he would say that he was more like Paul rather than Luke. Marcion s belief
was in some ways similar to Gnostic Christian theology. Marcion was considered not a good

Reflection On Feminism
This semester has truly been a journey for me and what I find myself identifying feminism as.
Looking back at our first writing assignment and discussing the magnitude of interpretations on
what feminism is and what it stands for, my opinions and views have certainly evolved throughout
the course of the semester. Feminism, in all of its forms and interpretations, is expressed differently
to each person. As for myself, I have never explored the vast variety of feminism until this past
fall semester. From expressing my views from the first assignment, I can clearly say that my
opinions have changed gradually throughout the semester. Three readings from our repertoire
have really shaped my new outlook on feminism and what it holds to be for me. And as this
semester in GWSS 1101 comes to a close, I look back on these readings to show how far I have
come and the vast opportunities that I have yet to come in my exploration of feminism. Before I
venture off into these three readings, I want to reflect back on my personal views of feminism at
the beginning of the semester through the What Is Feminism? interview project. Included in the
appendix, I have included the interview questions from my What Is Feminism? project.
Throughout the interview project, I explained that a majority of my beliefs of feminism were hand
fed to me by parents and my religion. I was born and raised on Catholic values, both being
educated in them in the church as well as in the household.

Julia Robinson Math Festival Research Paper
The mission of Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival (JRMF) activities is to connect pre college
students with the working community of research mathematicians and the world of recreational
mathematics. We expose students and their teachers to advanced mathematics in an engaging way
that affects both their content knowledge and their attitude towards the subject.
We accomplish this by running joyous cooperative events at schools, universities, and community
centers after school, involving students, teachers, and members of the mathematics community.
These Festivals offer an alternative to mathematics competition and examination, the more
traditional ways to infuse advanced mathematics into the curriculum.

Each table is dedicated to a single activity. Students are led in their exploration by a facilitator, a
mathematical professional, teacher, or older student who guides the minimal intervention.
The activities cover a wide variety of mathematical topics, requiring no more mathematics than
appears in most classroom texbooks. The topics pull the students minds, using what they have
already learned in new ways, and showing them connections they may not have otherwise seen. In
this way, students experience in miniature the work of a professional mathematician.
Students choose their own activity, and usually engage in 3 or 4 over the duration of the festival.
Students typically spend about 30 minutes at one table, and sometimes much longer.
A sample list of topics treated in our problem sets is given in Appendix A. The form of the JRMF
is flexible, and can serve struggling students as well as for the most advanced Olympiad
contestants, as well as those in between. Festivals can be tailored to students in the early grades, or
middle school students, or high school students at any level of proficiency. Festivals are hosted at
schools, colleges, universities, community centers, and corporate

The Zodiac Signs
Hi! I m a Gemini. So, what s your sign? I m never at a loss for words, but your beauty leaves me
speechless. Although these sound like cheesy pick up lines from the sixties or seventies, there can
be a valid reason as to why people use them.
The zodiac is a band of the sky along which the Sun, the Moon, and most of the planets move. It
is divided into twelve parts, with each named for a nearby constellation. The twelve zodiac or
astrological signs are associated with four essential elements, which are used to describe a
person s place in the world. Those elements are air, water, earth, and fire. All of these must co
exist peacefully and work together in sync in order to achieve balance in life. The twelve zodiac
signs are assigned to certain dates and houses that portray and describe the characteristics and
personality of an individual.
Since my birthday is on May 26th, I am a Gemini. In order to be considered a Gemini, an individual
s birthday would have to fall between the approximate dates of May 21st and June 20th. Just like
the eleven other signs, Gemini has its own traits and characteristics that are said to be associated
with a person born within those dates. However, traits that are specified for a certain sign do not
always have to match that person. There can be instances where a person is considered to be a
particular sign, but in reality they are not anything like it.
Gemini, one of the zodiac constellations, is the sign of the twins. It is the

Country Music Genre Essay
What has influenced a crossroad in two of music s biggest genres Country, Pop? In this paper I m
going to state and defend my position on why I think it s good for both genres. I will also give
reasons on why people believe Hick Hop is bad for both cultures.
Country music has always been inspired by African Americans folk music. Since African Americans
weren t allowed to perform their folk songs white performers would paint their face and sing the
honky tonk. With common theme, and history the only thing that separates the two genres is the
presentation.
But back to current day the first time we witnessed Hick Hop was in 2005 when cowboy troy
collaborated the two genres to create I play chicken with the train. Cowboy troy was African
American which was uncommon, but what stood out more was his way of integrating rap into his
music.
Since cowboy troy many artist have followed in his path. This past year the number one hit song
by Florida Georgia Line (Cruise) was remixed by rapper Nelly and it sky rocketed up the music
charts. But nelly wasn t the only rapper to remix country music the other most recent rapper to team

Sociologist Tressie McMillan Cottom is one of the people that doesn t believes in Hick Hop this
is what she had to say in her article The Racial Dynamics of Hick Hop . I think it goes back to
country being fundamentally about a better, simpler time. And that s always a nostalgic feeling,
about a better past. So even when the music is about fun, and isn t on the surface about the past, the
genre is about that. And for white people a lot of talking about the good old times is talking about
a pre integration time a pre Civil Rights time, a time before interracial dating was common. So they

Chain Of Violence In Tobias Wolff s The Chain And Bullet...
The Chain and Bullet in the Brain
A Chain of Violence, and a Link. In both of Tobias Wolff short stories, The Chain and Bullet in the
Brain, the theme is revenge, or getting what is coming. The Chain starts with an act of violence and
due to our main characters choices and actions, the violence continues on, a domino effect. While
shorter in length, Bullet in the Brain also packs in violence with our main character being on the
receiving end of it, and then reflecting on his entire life after his death. The author s personal
psychology is one that believes in karma as he tells the story of both Brian Gold and Anders
where they both get their due justice, in different ways with different outcomes. In these two
stories we deal with characters who may on the surface seem different, but both have different
character flaws and temperaments that reveal their dangerous psychological states, pivotal
moments that create their story, and major mistakes that result in violence and can not be taken
back. In The Chain our main character is Brian Gold, a father who owns a video store called Gold s
Video. He has character flaws that directly link to the type of violence he becomes involved in. In
the first paragraph, we see that his daughter is in danger as she is being attacked by a dog. Brian
does what he can to help in time, but his daughter still luckily only suffers some bruises, and the
owner of the dog is less than apologetic. Brian s cousin Tom offers to kill

Middle Class Family Research Paper
The Cadburys were an ideal example of how a middle class family could succeed during the
industrial revolution. In Western England, the Cadbury family owned a small cloth and dry goods
store, which flourished because of the industrial revolution. The Cadbury retail store ran by Richard
and Elizabeth Cadbury, benefited greatly from the new sources of supply and expanding demand
for cloth. This demand was derived from the industrial revolution making materials readily
available to the public. The industrial revolution also brought more people into cities, resulting in
more people able to buy these cheaper newer items. After years of expansion and growth, Richard
and Elizabeth made enough money to move out to the suburbs and help their son John... Show more

The Cadburys were not different; they too followed the characteristics of a middle class family
early on. In the Cadbury family and many other middle class families it was normal for the man
to be the respected economic provider. But, the wife of Richard Cadbury, Elizabeth, also helped
out the family business by running it while Richard was gone. On top of her duties to help out at
the store, Elizabeth also had to fulfill her responsibility of running the household. They had eight
children, which was actually considered a high amount for middle class families during the
industrial revolution. The Cadbury sons would be sent off to be apprentices in different cities
while the daughters would stay and learn how to work at the shop, the house, and the garden.
During this time it was also common for shopkeepers and their families to live above their own
store, which is what the Cadburys did until they earned enough money to move to the suburbs. All
of these actions were very common amongst the Cadburys and middle class during this time.

Robert Bannister Neo Darwinism
From another perspective, Robert Bannister, author of Neo darwinism and the Crisis of the 1890s,
observes that social Darwinism described a variety of evils from its first appearance in Europe
around 1880 to the time it found its way into American thought twenty years later. For example,
while some early commentators identified social Darwinismas brutal individualism similar to that
advocated by Herbert Spencer, others insisted that it provided a new rationale for socialism and the
class struggle or an explanation for the rising tide of imperialism and militarism in the late 19th
century. Such individualism can be found in the laisse faire system of economics first utilized by
American businessmen. American businessmen found in darwinistic... Show more content on

Pantaleoni is credited with being the first to apply marginalist analysis to public finance. He was
also the author of a famous textbook, the first to systematize marginalist thought and his paper on
economic dynamics was discussed in a session of the American Economic Association s annual
conference, contributing to the spread of social darwinistic economics overseas. Nitti, in turn,
conditioned Italian economic culture and found important reviews. These two important Italian
scholars, whose impact on the discipline in Italy was enormous, were on opposite sides with
regard to economic methodology, as well as on the issue of government intervention in the
economy. However, they both found their divergent inspiration in Spencer. To note just one,
Pantaleoni uses biology to validate the premise of marginalism: the sensations of pleasure he
writes, citing Spencer are such only insofar as they are appropriate to the preservation of life .
This concept is reiterated in his well known Pure Economics, through the words of Spencer
himself: pleasure giving acts are life sustaining acts. Pantaleoni verses many of Spencer s words,
which in turn contributed to success among economists. Soon after, Pantaleoni abandons static
analysis, and takes to exploring beyond the confines of economics as a discipline: on the one

Technological Evolution in the Film Industry Essay
As times are changing, knowledge and information are also changing. With that, the development
of motion picture complexity has changed the film industry by a continuing technological
evolution. It is evident that films have changed significantly over the last 100 years. The
intricacy of filmmaking technology has rapidly progressed, allowing creative potential for
filmmakers. Films are often due to technological advances, or even to reintroduce a classic story.
Some examples of films that have been remade include Scarface (1932), remade in 1983, and The
Magnificent Seven (1960), remade in 1998. King Kong (1933) is another example of a filmthat has

The stop motion animation sequences were filmed separately from the live action scenes with the
actors. These two parts were then combined to create the illusion that the ape was towering over
the actors. In the 2005 remake of the film, director Peter Jackson relied on Computer Generated
Imagery (CGI) to animate Kong. This use of CGI gave the director greater artistic control of the
narrative. Many of the sets were computer generated, as well as Kong himself. To combine both
the actors and the computer generated images together, chroma keying was used. In the scene
where Ann Darrow is placed in the hand of Kong, the actress was filmed against a green screen,
and held by a large green hand. When this scene was merged with the digital Kong, a composite
image shows Kong holding her. Since chroma keying technology did not exist in the 1930 s, a full
sized, fur covered hand had to be constructed to create the effect of Kong holding the actor. The
difference between the visual effects in both versions is significant, making is apparent that the
remake has displayed great technological advancement. These advancements also make the film
more believable, and emphasise the story.
Another aspect of the film that had a significant impact was colour. In the original version of King
Kong, the film was shot in black and white. Sometimes there can be implications with interpreting
the emotions in the film. Colour in film is a huge

  • 2. Galileo versus the Catholic Church Letters on the Solar Spots was made public in 1613. Copernicus s theory was openly discussed in this letter (Galilei and Drake, 145). Copernicus proposed than an axis revolving Earth circumnavigated around the heart of the universe, the Sun (Andrade, 120). Father Lorini, a Dominican friar and professor of ecclesiastical history in Florence, was among the first to criticize Galileo for his Copernican views (Linder). The Copernican theory contravened the belief of the Holy Scripture that the Earth was in the middle of the universe (Andrade, 125). Lorini used Joshua 10:13 and Isaiah 40:22 as support. Joshua 10:13 states that So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven . Isaiah 40:22 talks about the heavens stretched out as a curtain above the circle of the earth (Linder). Galileo s Letter to Castelli in December of 1613 was a reply to the condemnation he received due to his beliefs about the Copernicus theory. Galileo proposed in the letter that certain things in the Scripture were not to be taken literally. This letter only increased the amount of criticism towards Galileo (Andrade, 125). Father Lorini then took the drastic step of getting the Catholic Church involved. Lorini sent an altered copy of Letter to Castelli to the Roman Inquisition. Lorini altered the text of the letter to make it appear that Galileo directly pronounced the Scriptures as false. Lorini was not the only enemy of Galileo however. Father Tommasco Caccini was also a staunch opponent of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Analysis On Wound Management Wound management is one of the cornerstones for nursing care however, effective wound care extends far beyond the application of the wound itself. Nurses may be required to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate wound care; therefore, order to fill these roles it s critical to have an understanding of the several different areas of wound care such as, integumentary system, classification of wounds, wound procedures, and documentation. Knowledge in each of these areas will allow nurses to make well informed decisions about wound care, and as a result play an active part in wound healing. Integumentary System The integumentary system or skin is our body s largest organ, which weighs 20 pounds or more, accounting for about 16% of total body weight (Thibodeau, 2014, p.93). According to Thibodeau (2014 p. 145) the: number of structures fitting into 1 square inch of skin: 500 sweat glands; more than 1000 nerve endings; yards of tiny blood vessels; nearly 100 sebaceous glands; 150 sensors for pressure, 75 for hot, 10 for cold; and millions of cells. The integumentary system can be broken down into three main categories the Epidermis, Dermis, and Subcutaneous layer each of which contain certain specialized skin derivatives including hair, nails, and several kinds of glands. The outer most layer of the skin or Epidermis contains stratified squamous, keratinized, epithelial tissue; which lacks blood vessels, and the cells are packed closely together (Sloane, 1994, p.85) The ... • 6. The Geographic Landscape Of The African Continent When it comes to discussing the geographic landscape of the African continent people are quick to overlook the important role that soil has played in the development of cultures and civilizations in Africa because it can be so easily overshadowed by Africa s other geographic features such as its rivers, mountains, deserts andgrasslands. However, to ignore soilis undoubtedly a mistake because African soils cannot be separated from African history (Showers 118). Soils are literally the foundation of life, used for farming, building houses, making pottery, and mined for their mineral deposits. They are in themselves, historical bodies and they have interacted with human history since its beginning. (Showers 118). While looking for information on the soil of Africait is not uncommon to find descriptions such as African soils are indeed poor (Bohannan 23) while being presented with the seemingly paradoxical fact that By far the greatest number of Africans are farmers. (Bohannan 43). This paper will examine how it is possible for Africa to be a continent consisting of such poor soil yet be full of such a rich history of farming that persists into present day. It will explore the general characteristics of African soil, how humans have historically interacted with soil, and the way that outsiders have used generalizations about Africa s soil to perpetuate Western misconceptions. When attempting to gain insight into the general characteristics of African soil it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

AIDS, a viral disease of the human, is spreading rapidly across the world. Also, parasites, rabies, and toxoplasma gondii are all potential factors in the humanbody takeover. Zombie films today help show how the world will be when this happens. Blood, saliva, and biting will all be known as curse words to society. Society in one s eyes will never be the same. Whereas microparasites can have highly visible effects, diseases caused by macroparasites are often more subtle, yet can still impact the host at the population level.*** Parasites may have less of a threat to the human race compared to viruses, but they still pose a threat to the human and its society for spreading to others. One particular parasite infection in the human race now is toxoplasma gondii, by the protozoan parasite. It is one of the most common parasitic infections of man and other warm blooded animals. Nearly one third of humanity has already been exposed to this parasite. In most adults it does not cause serious illness, but it can cause blindness and mental retardation in infected children and devastating disease in immunocompromised individuals. Most infections in humans are asymptomatic but at times the parasite can produce devastating disease. Once more, the parasite has probable cause to become a disease, even deadly ones. Toxoplasma gondii is already existent and spreading through many countries. It is an infectious parasite therefore, is has all the characteristics a parasite inquires. Not only can it rapidly spread, but also through higher population levels. If the toxoplasma gondii were to spread, and the parasite inhabits a new domain, it could become more prevalent and start to take over its host. . • 9. Effects Of Asthma On Children s Asthma As children grow, so does their need to develop a feeling of self worth and a sense of self when compared to other children in physical appearance, academics, athletics, and social interactions (Ball et al., 2015, p.208). The effects of asthma can play a direct role on how the child develops in these areas. Factors that affect asthmaare being exposed to triggers and the medication management. The child is dependent on parents for initial management education of asthma treatment (Silva Mendez Barros, 2013, p.1002). The parents beliefs about the adherence of medications have shown to have an influence on the child receiving the medication as prescribed (Yilmaz et al., 2012, p. 285). Parents most common concerns were about the amount of medication and the possible long term effects (Gilchrist et al., 2012, pp.553 554). Often parents are aware of their child s asthma problems but seem hesitant or unwilling to voice their concerns to a physician (Orrell Valente, Jarlsberg, Rait, Thyne, Rubash, Cabana, 2007, p.388). The inability to communicate with the physician can leave the parent with a lack of knowledge and preconceived notions: The lack of knowledge about asthma has been associated with decreased adherence to prescribed treatment plans (Silva Mendez Barros, 2013, p.1003). When inhaled medications are not adhered to, children with asthma have an increased rate of exacerbation (Yilmaz et al., 2012, p. 282). The symptoms can be very frightening for both the child ... • 10. The Employment Laws Of The Workplace With the modern complexity of employment laws, the necessity for recording a conversation or meeting in the workplace often presents itself. With today s technology, the opportunity presents itself more easily than ever before. However, because employees rights of privacy are severely limited in the workplace, what, if anything, may an employee legally record in the workplace? Any lawful permitted use of electronic recording devices by employees in the workplace will likely be for protected concerted activity and provided by В§ 7 of the National Labor Relations Act ( NLRA ). As mentioned above, in the private workplace, the employer practically has absolute power in limiting the conduct, activity, and rights of employees. A fundamental precept of labor law is that working time is for work. Since audio and video recording, as well as photography have great potential for consuming work time and distracting employees from accomplishing their work tasks, many employers promulgate policies which disallow such recording. In a recent case in December of 2015, and one of first impression, the National Labor Relations Board ( NLRB or Board ) issued a decision in Whole Foods Market, Inc., 363 NLRB No. 87 (Dec. 24, 2015), finding for the first time that blanket or unqualified employer policies which prohibit employees from recording company meetings or conversations with other employees are unlawfully overbroad. However, the Board stated that certain circumstances do exist ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Religious Freedom And Separation Of Church And State Essay After many frustrations and disputes arising out of the Commonwealth of Virginia, the termination of Bill Establishing A Provision for Teachers of Christian Religion and the new Virginia Statue for Religious Freedom mark a necessary and significant turn. The people of Virginia can finally savor the religious freedom that they longed for. I shall hereby applaud the efforts pushed forth by the honorable James Madison, Thomas Jefferson and so many others who shared the common stance on religious freedom and separation of church and state. However, the achievement seemed provincial when placed in the context of the larger United States. The new nation is at great stake because the congregational church in Massachusetts disallows and persecutes any deviation from its core religious interpretation; Jews are perceived as the enemies of the Christ by a large group of people; and the Catholic minority in many states still suffers. Therefore, absolute religious freedom and the separation of church and state shall be guaranteed in the new constitution in order to maintain the supremacy of Godover the state and purity of the God we trust, annihilate the violence, persecution and tyrannies the God disdains, uphold the God given natural rights we once fought for and construct this blessed new nation to be free and prosperous. God is the divine creator of the universe whereas civil laws are the derivative of humankind. In other words, Christian Religion pre existed any form of state or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Foucault Discipline And Punishment When reading this piece, I noticed that book is all about how important and integrated prison is a main part of our society around the world. It shows how it is impossible to get rid of them, mostly because of the fact that there is no alternative to prisons really out there, and just like the title suggests prisons are the main form of Discipline and Punishment. Foucault s main argument is that modern society, mostly referencing France, are based on the idea of individual liberty. As prison deprives people of their liberty choices and leaving them in confinement leads to it being the most ethical punishment. Most importantly, the systems of discipline, and observation that go around inside a prison extend outside its walls. Although Foucault... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I feel that There are two images, then, of discipline. At one extreme, the discipline blockade, the enclosed institution, established on the edges of society, turned in wards towards negative functions: arresting evil, breaking communications, suspending time. At the other extreme, with panopticons, is the discipline mechanism: a functional mechanism that must improve the exercise of power by making it lighter, more rapid, more effective, a design of subtle coercion for a society to come. The movement from one project to the other, from a schema of exceptional discipline to one of a generalized surveillance, rests on a historical transformation: the gradual extension of the mechanisms of discipline throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, their spread throughout the whole social body, the formation of what might be called in general the disciplinary society. This indicates that children watch television for too many hours, so the advertising companies target children to increase the number of people, watching their programs. Some critics claimed it looked like a scar; an embarrassment for United States (as it was moving along with the hill it was created on, and therefore looked hiding), while others saw something that was trying to hide from the spotlight. Somehow, some critics saw Lin s Chinese heritage as an issue for this design this work (but how one can make a successful argument for this theory is beyond me). Nonetheless, the project continued and the monument was erected, along with other sculptures. Lin had to negotiate with the creators of this work and allow monumental sculptures to be produced. However, she was worried that these sculptures would take away attention from the monument she designed, so she negotiated that the two monuments be kept relatively separate (there was also a Women s Memorial for the work that women conducted during the war). • 17. How Does Watching Tv Corrupts The Mind When people generally think of television, most may assume it rots the mind. Freelance writer Rachel Krantz not only believes that TV is not useful for your mind, it may kill you, decrease your chances of having kids, ruin the ones you do have, and possibly turn you violent. Could any of this have happened to me as I was binge watching The Simpsons from seasons one to eight during the summer? I initially thoughtthat this show was prone to dumb me down as I did this, but instead it enlightened me through its clever writing. Even with gags as dumb as an old man hurt by a football thrown to his groin, I felt as if no other show was as thoughtful and full of heart as The Simpsons. Despite that Krantz s claims are backed by academic studies and research on television, it should be the least concern for our minds. Television does not rot our minds; it intellectually challenges and aptly adjusts our minds depending on how we use it. The further time a kid spends watching television, the larger their brains grow. That seems great, although apparently this is considered unhealthy for them. A recent Japanese study reveals that as kids between ages 5 through 18 spend, on average, two hours of watching TV per day, certain areas of their brains were growing. The rise in brain volume of these kids was linked to a fall in their verbal IQ. However, the data in this study was not clear if TV watching caused this (Sanders). Identification Of An Unknown Bacterium Identification of an Unknown Bacterium #C 4 Laura Bromley Russell Sage College BIO 208L Microbiology Lab Professor Anne Rea Due: April 14, 2015 Introduction When we speak of the word bacteria some individuals may not recognize how large of a role these tiny organisms play in our everyday lives. Some may jump to the conclusion that bacteria are related to the spread of germs or sickness among the human population. Most microbes are harmless or beneficial (Matthews, 2015) and a large majority of these tiny microbes are extremely important in order to maintain the balance of living organisms and chemicals in our environment (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2013). The importance of understanding microbes is not only important in a microbiology lab setting. There are a plethora of reasons for knowing and understanding the identity and function of microorganisms. For example, in the medical and health science fields it is important to have an over all understanding of microbes and their functions, in order to distinguish the causative agent of disease in a patient (Tortora et al., 2013). This allows health professionals to treat their patients safely and efficiently. Microbes also play a critical role in the food industry, recycling matter, and fighting disease and infection (Tortora et al., 2013). Most microbes are harmless or beneficial (Matthews, 2015). Women who had property rights were able to distinguish their own property from those of her husband s and were able to create a separate property inheritance line. However, despite the fact that women were not able to inherit property, some women were still able to have power managing the properties. The property rights of women of warrior status changed drastically. The establishment of the house system during the later Kamakura period took away power from women. The focus of predator management is to minimize predation using nonlethal and lethal methods. Carnivores are vital for biological systems. Removing predators that eat the prey will cause a decline in the plants biomass. Problems with predation can be heavily influences by humans. Impacts on predators or prey can be from global warming, habitat loss, War, etc. Adult porcupines are one of the many species that are affected by global warming. • 34. Problems With Domestic Violence Domestic violence is very delicate topic when considering its relationship with child development. Children who are present within a family experiencing domestic violence are likely to experience problem integrating as they grow up and are probable to be significantly affected as a result of seeing one of their tutors being aggressed. Many children who see domestic violencehappening in their homes typically believe that they are the reason for differences between their parents. In addition to this, these individuals are exposed to becoming victims of child abuseand constantly live in a state of fear. In order to understand how domestic violence affects children, one needs to gain a more complex comprehension of the idea of domestic violence. A common definition of domestic violence is any episode of threatening behavior, aggression or abuse between two grown individuals who are in a relationship or who are members of the same family, with no regard to their gender or sexuality (Sterne Poole 3). While seeing domestic violence happening can be traumatic even for an adult, matters are much more troubling when considering a child s perspective. Domestic violence is much more common than some might be inclined to believe and most schools are probable to have children who have seen it happen at home. For many, home is a stressful, unpredictable place; the family is a source of conflict and some children live in an almost constant state of fear about the next violent ... The underlying cultural aspects that existed in Russia from 1480 1800 like the Eastern Orthodox Church and the westernization of the boyars certainly helped Russiaadvance as a world power. The political constants in Russia, such as the serf and boyar control as well as expansion, also helped Russia to approach countries in the West in terms of influence. Peter the Great ruled 1689 and 1725 continuing many cultural aspects of Russia, but making changes and further advancing the state. Peter traveled to Western Europe incognito to westernize Russia further and brought back hundreds of artisans from Europe and educated himself in Western science and technology. An example of a change in culture to westernize by Peter was the abolition of the whip giving practice. In upper class marriages it was customary for the father of the bride to give the groom a whip, symbolizing the control of men over women. This change in Russian illustrates how drastic a change was necessary for Russia to westernize and it is likely many people were not accepting of this change as it had been engrained in Russian culture for hundreds of years. Another cultural change was the requirement that all boyars cut of their beards, pigtails, and long sleeves that were Mongol style and had been adopted by the boyars. This conformity emphasizes the need for Russia to change by westernization in order to gain the respect of the West. The bureaucracy was provided a higher level of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Funeral Rites Of Misenus The introduction of Misenus into the beginning Book VI of the Aeneid demonstrates the Roman belief that a dead body brings pollution: both physically and spiritually. In order to combat this Aeneas is instructed to carry him to his place of rest and lay him in a tomb. Then you must bring black cattle to begin purification . This purification ritual exemplifies the notion that a dead body brings pollution to the community it is found within. The in depth funeral rites described in Book VI in regards to Misenus exemplify the modern Roman belief and rituals regarding death. First they lit a large pyre with Misenus armour placed on top. Secondly they heated water cauldrons to wash and anointed his body and then placed him in his familial purple robes: further exemplifying the importance of body purification. Then there are descriptions of lighting the pyre and offerings being burnt: incense, sacrificial food, and bowls filled with oil. The ashes are then cooled with wine and placed in a bronze casket that is then carried around the comrades thrice. Finally, in this description, a mound is made and in this case called Mount Misenus: a lasting memory. The funeral rites of Misenus demonstrate important, modern, roman qualities. In the Bronze Age, when the myth of Aeneasis set, traditions toward burialand death were different. How Did Walt Disney Affect The World If I say the word Disney , most people would automatically think of Mickey Mouse, Peter Pan, and all of the beloved characters that we ve grown up with and grown fond of, right? Hollywood s best known studio, Walt Disney Animation, wasn t always a billion dollar organization, but still, after almost 100 years, manages to capture the hearts and captivate the eyes of the world. In this expository essay, I will explain how Disney began, how it grew, and how it still manages to affect the world, even after Walt Disneys death. Disney, the best known studio in Hollywood, California, started small. Walt Disney, and his brother Roy, produced many short live action and animated films called the Alice Comedies in the back of a small office from Holly Vermont Reality in Los Angeles in 1923, with the rent only $10 a month. By month four, the staff moved to a larger building, which read Disney Bros. Studio on the window. One year later, Walt and Roy moved into a Hyperion Avenue lot in Los Angeles ( The Walt Disney Studios History ). After failed attempts to make the audience enjoy the Alice Comedies, Disney created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Universal Pictures distributed it, but Disney lost the contract in February of 1928 to Charles Mintz. In 1928, Disney created a mouse, whom his wife wanted to call Mortimer , but he chose the name Mickey , with his chief animator, Ub Iwerks. Crime Scene Investigation Of The National Forensics Academy The National Forensics Academy was full of multiple dimensions of crime scene investigation that I had not even thought about nor learned about in the past. The world of crime scene investigation is interesting to me because of all these aspects and because they are ever changing, and new and better methods are being discovered. Throughout the academy I learned about these aspects in detail and how there are various methods within each aspect. The aspects that I learned were how to photograph a crime scene, finger printing, foot impressions, crime scene sketches, bloodspatter analysis, bullet holes, bones, and digging up a grace to recover a body. These aspects work together to investigate and recreate crime scenes. A part of crime scene investigation that I had never put much thought into was the photography. Taking photos of everything at a scene and the methods of how to photograph scenes are important in working a scene. I had never had the opportunity to work with the type of cameras that we used at the academy and I was unaware of the work that goes into photographing a picture. Before taking a photo one must adjust the settings including the F stop, ISO, and shutter speed of the camera. • 40. Information And Communication Technology In The 21st Century Technology in an educational context is the ability to shape and change the physical world or knowledge by the manipulation of material and tools. Education in the 21st century has greatly benefited from the improvements provided by information and communication technology, visual and audio content that can be sent immediately to any part of the world (Bartlett Burton, 2012). The amount of economic resources a region or community has dictates its availability. This has meant information can be more easily shared, students using electronic devices are enabled to access information on any subject or topic. Educators can more easily share ideas or discuss concepts, allowing them to deliver content using a variety of different electronic formats in the classroom. Technology has become a major component in personalised learning, this is where the method of providing information and the system used is built around the student, previously the system was built for the learner which they were required to fit into (Bolstad et al., 2012). The introduction of technology into the classroom has also changed how curriculum and pedagogy is delivered to students in the 21st century. When comparing new and traditional teaching practices from the 20th century, analysis need to be completed on how curriculum and pedagogy have changed to accommodate this. Williams also states his three general findings that he has as he studied Marcion thought out his life. Around 144 AD Marcion expressed his beliefs to everyone and not just to the church. Most people at that time thought that his beliefs were outrageous and they were frowned upon in that society. Marcion still believed what he thought was right and created his own church. Even though he knew that giving his opinion on religion was not a good idea during that time period he still did and got followers that believed in what he was creating. Everyone that followed his lead and believed the same thing that he did were called Marcionites. (Head) According to David Williams not much information on Marcion s gospel is found. Most of the information is gathered up from references and quotes found in other literatures. (Williams) Marcion s gospel that they have pieced together are said to look exactly like Luke s gospel. These two important Italian scholars, whose impact on the discipline in Italy was enormous, were on opposite sides with regard to economic methodology, as well as on the issue of government intervention in the economy. However, they both found their divergent inspiration in Spencer. To note just one, Pantaleoni uses biology to validate the premise of marginalism: the sensations of pleasure he writes, citing Spencer are such only insofar as they are appropriate to the preservation of life . This concept is reiterated in his well known Pure Economics, through the words of Spencer himself: pleasure giving acts are life sustaining acts. Pantaleoni verses many of Spencer s words, which in turn contributed to success among economists. The stop motion animation sequences were filmed separately from the live action scenes with the actors. These two parts were then combined to create the illusion that the ape was towering over the actors. In the 2005 remake of the film, director Peter Jackson relied on Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) to animate Kong. This use of CGI gave the director greater artistic control of the narrative. Many of the sets were computer generated, as well as Kong himself. To combine both the actors and the computer generated images together, chroma keying was used. In the scene where Ann Darrow is placed in the hand of Kong, the actress was filmed against a green screen, and held by a large green hand. When this scene was merged with the digital Kong, a composite image shows Kong holding her. Since chroma keying technology did not exist in the 1930 s, a full sized, fur covered hand had to be constructed to create the effect of Kong holding the actor. The difference between the visual effects in both versions is significant, making is apparent that the remake has displayed great technological advancement. These advancements also make the film more believable, and emphasise the story. Another aspect of the film that had a significant impact was colour. In the original version of King Kong, the film was shot in black and white. Sometimes there can be implications with interpreting the emotions in the film. Colour in film is a huge ...
