The cornea is the transparent front part of the eye that provides around 70% of the eye's total refractive power. It has no blood vessels and is composed of 6 layers - epithelium, Bowman's membrane, stroma, Dua's layer, Descemet's membrane, and endothelium. The stroma makes up around 90% of the cornea's thickness and is comprised mainly of collagen and keratocytes. The cornea has the highest density of sensory nerve fibers of any tissue which provides its high sensitivity.
