Working as a senior research scholar in Agricultural Biotechnology in
Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur over past 3 years
Research Area
∑ Study of plant secondary metabolites for developing new drugs for several
human diseases
∑ Therapeutics
∑ Pharmaceutical analysis
∑ Enzymology
∑ Quality assurance and quality control for novel drug development
∑ Neuroscience on special emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinsonism
Research experience:
Working as a senior research fellow in IIT Kharagpur, from December 2013, in a national
project headed by Tea board of India and IIT Kharagpur.
The main objective of the proposed research project is to develop a new drug for
alzheimer’s disease by addressing the key therapeutics of plant secondary metabolites
specially by the polyphenols of tea.
The main objectives of the project are:
∑ To analyse the polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity in fresh tea leaves grown
in organic and inorganic nutrient management practices. To evaluate the tea
polyphenol content and their quantification by the combination of high-pressure
liquid chromatography (HPLC) with high-resolution time-of-flight mass
spectrometry(MS)
∑ To evaluate the Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory property in organically and
inorganically grown tea by UV-visible spectrophotometer
2. ∑ To compare behavioural assessment and biochemical analysis of Colchicine induced
rat model of alzheimer’s disease before and after oral administration of tea extract
having maximum polyphenol content
∑ To analyse the behavioural changes of the early onset of alzheimers disease patients
in hospital after oral administration treatment of tea containing maximum polyphenol
∑ Development of polyphenol capsules for prevention of Dementia
Projects done
∑ Worked as a Research assistant in Centres for International projects trust from May
2013-November 2013USAID Project of increase in crop production and promotion of
GW11 Wheat variety in Gujrat in collaboration with Earth Institute Columbia Crop
Modelling in DSSAT crop modelling software
∑ M.SC project in IIT Kharagpur’s Biotechnology Department.Clonning and
Expression of Encystations specific gene of Entamoeba histolytica in bacterial
system(Biotechnology Department) IIT Kharagpur (2011) PCR analysis ,SDS-PAGE
Gel electrophoresis study Plasmid Isolation, Several Enzyme analysis ,Bacterial
transformation handed by own upto 200 samples
∑ .M.Tech project in IIT Kharagpur’s Agricultural and Food Engineering
Department.Therapeutic effect of Withania somnifera added tea on Alzheimer’s and
Parkinson’s disease.Sample analysis in High performance liquid chromatography in
250 samples Gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy study for identifications of
tea secondary metabolites, terpenes, polyphenols, volatile compounds.Extensive study
of liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method for analysis of
polyphenolic compounds in liquid samples of grape juice, green tea and coffee.
