Working as a senior research scholar in Agricultural Biotechnology in
Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering, Indian Institute of
Technology, Kharagpur over past 3 years
Research Area
∑ Study of plant secondary metabolites for developing new drugs for several
human diseases
∑ Plant phytochemical analysis
∑ Pharmaceutical analysis
∑ Enzymology
∑ Quality assurance and quality control for novel drug development
∑ Neuroscience, on special emphasis on Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinsonism
Research experience:
The main objective of my PhD research work is to develop a new drug for alzheimer’s
disease by analysing the key therapeutics of plant secondary metabolites specially by the
polyphenols of tea.
The main objectives of the project are:
∑ To analyse the polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity in fresh tea leaves grown
in organic and inorganic nutrient management practices. To evaluate the tea
polyphenol content their identification and quantification by the combination of
high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) with high-resolution time-of-flight
mass spectrometry (MS)
∑ To evaluate the Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory property in organically and
inorganically grown tea by UV-visible spectrophotometer
∑ To compare behavioural assessment and biochemical analysis of Colchicine induced
rat model of alzheimer’s disease before and after oral administration of tea extract
having maximum polyphenol content
2. ∑ To analyse the behavioural changes of the early onset of alzheimers disease patients
in hospital after oral administration treatment of tea containing maximum polyphenol
∑ Development of polyphenol capsules for inhibition of dementia
Projects done
∑ Pursuing PhD in IIT Kharagpur’s Agricultural and Food Engineering Department in
Agricultural Biotechnology. The title of the PhD research project is ‘Therapeutic
effect of tea grown in different nutrient management practices in Alzheimer’s
diseases’
∑ M.Tech project was done in IIT Kharagpur’s Agricultural and Food Engineering
Department in agricultural biotechnology. The title of the project was ‘Therapeutic
effect of Withania somnifera added tea on Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease’.
o Tea and Withania somnifera sample analysis in High performance liquid
chromatography, gas chromatography of volatile compounds, mass
spectrophotometric analysis of 250 samples of tea leaves were done in this
project.
o Gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy study were done for
identifications of tea secondary metabolites, terpenes, polyphenols, volatile
compounds like linoleic acid and linolenic acid.Extensive study of liquid
chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method were done for analysis of
polyphenolic compounds in liquid samples of, green tea, black tea,Withania
somnifera leaf extract
∑ Worked as a Research assistant in Centres for International projects Trust,Delhi from
may 2013 to november 2013 in USAID Project.
o The objective of the project was to increase in crop production and promotion
of GW11 wheat variety in Gujrat in collaboration with Earth Institute
Columbia,USA.
o Crop Modelling for various crops were done in DSSAT crop modelling
software during this project
∑ M.Sc project was done in IIT Kharagpur’s Biotechnology Department. The title of the
project was ‘Clonning and Expression of Encystations specific gene of Entamoeba
histolytica in bacterial system’.
o PCR analysis,SDS-PAGE, Gel electrophoresis study, plasmid isolation, several
enzymatic analysis ,bacterial transformation weredone by own for 200
samples in this project
