4. Location
Within Blink 182’s video they use at least 6 locations with a variety
of shots and movements within each location. They used: an
airport hanger, the beach, dance studio, backdrops,
warehouses and a large space such as a field.
Therefore for our product we could re-create the amount of different
locations so to adhere to the generic features of pop punk. Some
of the locations Blink 182 uses our group could use such as the
beach however it would be hard for us to get an airport hanger.
Some ideas of our group were: the beach, park/field, street,
garage (like a warehouse) and the skateboard park. In terms of the
different scenes in each location and using different camera angles
I think this is achievable with all our possible locations.
5. Possible location Recce
Beach – Saltburn, Whitby, Redcar or Scarborough
Field / park – South Park (Darlington)
Skateboard Park – North Park (Darlington)
Garage – One of groups garages / empty
warehouse in Teesside
Street – Any street that is rarely used with little
traffic
7. Props
Within Blink 182’s video there aren’t many props. The main focus is
the instruments however they do use: a dog, a bus, a crowd of
people with fan posters and the bands instruments.
Within our group’s product we plan to use a real life band
playing the instruments so we will be like Blink 182. In terms of
other props we could use someone’s pet, our group could use
my family’s convertible car and skateboards (depending on the
location)
9. Costumes and make-up
In the video there are 13 different costume changes. I found most of
these changes were at the beginning of the video and then were cut
back to at the end as the viewer was associated with the scene. In terms
of costume the boy band wore clothes that were on trend in the early
naughties . This includes: white suites, classic boy band with a top and
jeans in black and white, baggy army trousers etc. For the make – up it is
kept natural including the girl we see on the beach.
For our product to keep in touch with what’s on trend we will dress our
band in at least 10 different costumes that are popular in 2015. This
includes: shirtdresses, black and white, kimonos and denim. As with the
make- up e too will keep it natural however if we use a female we may
use more make – up than on the video as in recent times make – up has
changed since 2000.
10. Equipment
For our video we will need: cameras, tri pods, tracks, lights and
string so to accomplish aerial shots without the need for a crane.
When filming outside we will need an access point to electricity
especially if it’s dark and we need lights. We may need an
extension cable and a power point.
11. Shots required
After counting a total of 125 shot changes within Blink 182’s video we
will need to match or beat this number of shot changes as pop punk
music is quite fast so to reflect this in Goodwin’s theory we will need
to add many more shot changes as the beat picks up.
The editing in the video varies. They use mainly cuts, fades and zooms
to transition between shots. Our group will only use cuts as the other
2 types of editing have become increasingly old fashioned and
therefore only reflect the early naughties.
12. Number of performers
Blink 182 consists of 3 band members. These 3 memebers are
seen in the video accompanied with a vast number of people
acting as a fan group.
13. Number of performers
Therefore in our group’s video we will have a band that is at least 3
members. We will probably have a: drummer, lead vocalist, bass and
guitarist. When considering how many more people we will need I think
we will struggle to get loads of people to location so therefore I think
the majority of the video will be of the band with possibly 5 other
performers/dancers.
14. •Blink 182 are represented as typical pop punkers. They
act rebellious with a sense of insanity suggesting drugs –
this goes against the stereotype of a male as they’re
meant to be aggressive, self reliant and driven however
Blink 182 seem to take life as a joke
•They’re represented as jokey and make fun of the
stereotypical woman – again this goes against the
stereotype of a man as women are seen to be there for
the man’s pleasure however they see them as people
who float around and rely on men to help them as
they’re vulnerable
Issues of representation
15. Issues of representation
Therefore, in our video we will need to go against the
stereotypes of male and females so to follow the conventions
of pop punk.
16. Real band / mime bad
As the music video for Blink 182 is meant to advertise the
band they use a real band. For our group we have debated this
and decided we will try to get a real band for our performance
as we have access to one. However if we can’t get one we will
need to mime which may make filming the video harder as the
actors need to look professional and natural.
