Question 1
1. Question 1
IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT USE,
DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS
OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS ?
2. My music video conforms to conventions of real
media products in a number of ways;
One way that my music video conforms to real media products is that a
guitar is used by the artist singing.
Below is a screenshot of my music video and Dolly Parton music video of
Jolene, both have a guitar included.
3. Another way that my music video conforms to real country media products
is the clothing that is used. In my music video, my narrative actors are
wearing clothing that match the country conventions, such as denim and
shirts, and my singer in the performance parts is also wearing typical
country clothing.
4. My video also conforms to country stereotypes, as it follows a narrative. In
my music video there is a story behind it, of a man being unhappy with
him wife and finding happiness with somebody else. This conforms to
country stereotypes as many country music videos do follow a narrative
rather than have a video full of performance shots, and country videos
usually follow the theme of love. Although country videos include
narrative, they do also show some shots of performance and include the
actual artist singing, which I have also done in my music video.
Below are shots from my video (left) and Carrie Underwood's music video
of before he cheats showing both performance and narrative.
5. Another way that my music video conforms to country conventions is the
locations that I used. Country music videos typically are set in countryside
locations. Due to my narrative it was hard to have the duration of my
music video in a country location, but some shots are taken in the
countryside.
Below is a picture of one of the locations I used in my music video.
6. As well as the previous reasons, my music video also conforms to country
music video conventions, due to the fact country as a genre usually gives
off a happy, positive vibe and it is very much about love and friendship.
In my music video, I follow this convention as I have a clip, during the
instrumental section, where there are some friends dancing together,
smiling and having a nice time.
7. However, there are some parts of my music video which in fact
challenge the country genre conventions. Examples of these
include the fact that the singer and main actor are separate
people, as in most country videos the actor in the narrative is
also the artist. Also, although the costume’s do match the
country conventions, they do have a slight modern and
contemporary twist to them, which again, doesn’t happen
regularly in country music videos.
Overall, my music video mostly uses the conventions of real
media products as it has many of the same conventions within it,
and the whole video as a whole has a very country feel to it,
despite there being some aspects which challenge the
conventions.
