Trailer 1: Blackfish
In this shot, we can see a relationship between the trainer and killer whale, which clearly
states that whales can be friendly and trustworthy towards people. This makes the audience
become empathetic towards these mammals further into the documentary. Personally, this
amazes me, how these animals are seen as vicious predators when, they are not, unless they
feel threatened and frustrated. This shot is called a two shot, this is used portray the emotion
between these two characters and their actions. Which in this case is trustworthy. This scene
can also be seen as calm and a peaceful atmosphere. This is done by the tranquillity of the
blue water.
In this screenshot, it portrays the emotions of the orca; lonely and depressed. This makes the
audience feel empathy for the animal as it is held in captivity. The frame that is used is called
a single frame; this means it is focusing on a singular character's emotions and actions within
that frame.

Comparison
These documentaries are based off two completely different topics therefore two different
audiences. This is because the first trailer mainly attracts people that have an interest in the
ocean/sea animals, this is seen as a broad subject to document. Whereas the second one it
is specifically aimed at the people of Sunderland specifically SAFC supporters and their
culture. Personally, I am attracted to both documentaries as I love the ocean and I'm from
Sunderland who happens to really like football. Sunderland till I die gives abroad idea to
people that live anywhere other than Sunderland of how we live and the culture behind it.
However, this documentary won't mean as much to others as it does to us as it is a part of
us who live in the area. Both these documentaries both became successful as they met their
audiences' standards. For example, because of the making of blackfish there has been
charities and protests for orcas that have suffered and the ones that are currently suffering.
Therefore, this means that their message has been spread across a vast amount of people
that are willing to make a change for these animals. The demographics for these trailers are
slightly different as for the Sunderland till I die documentary mainly focuses on football
which mostly aimed at males, as they are interested in this topic more. However, for the
blackfish trailer it can be for both male and female as there isn't a specific gender it is aimed
to. The age range for ‘Sunderland till I die’ is broader compared to ‘Blackfish’ mainly
because of the graphic scenes in blackfish and violent scenes, so this would not be proper to
a younger audience. However, ‘Sunderland till I die’ is more family friendly when it comes at
age range, as it is about something loved worldwide and nothing violent or graphic in the
content. These documentaries are available on Netflix which means that most people will be
able to watch due to Netflix being such a massive thing as its one of the main entertainment
platforms. The elements that make a documentary can be as little as applying music to the
footage or narrating, by doing this it creates a dramatic difference and can make it either
more interesting or ruin it. Both documentaries consist of real footage of the events which
draws the audience's attention as it becomes more interesting and more believable as there
is evidence.
