AUDIENCE
From the brief
• In the brief, I was asked to create a short documentary
that will be specifically aimed at 16- to 25-year-olds.
This means that my audience would be in some sort of
education whether its last year of secondary, college or
uni. Due to my documentary idea being serial killers
mind, this would be perfect for either psychology
students or people that have an interest in true crime
type. As I am in this targeted audience, I find that this
benefits me in a way as I know what would interest
them in a way as if I was the audience watching the
documentary.
Demographics
• Demographics cover a wide range of subjects such as
religion, race, education, income level however they
don’t play that much of a big part in this specific project
as I will be more focused on age and gender as this
would have more of an impact on my documentary
research than the other subjects.
Age
Age plays quite a big part in
marketing, such as if I were
making a horror, it would be
aimed at an older audience
whereas if I were to make
something for children it
would be aimed at them and
not adults. Specifically, this
project is aimed at 16- to
25-year-olds. Demographics
Gender
Gender is also important in research mainly
because males won't be that interested in
specific things that females are more
interested in. For example, males are more
typically drawn to historic or sport
documentaries whereas females are more
drawn to true crime documentaries.
Religion
Religion doesn’t play that
much of a part in my
documentary
specifically, mainly
because I am not aiming it
at any religious topics;
historic cultures, Hinduism,
Christianity, Buddhism etc...
Whereas if I was basing the
theme of the documentary
of god related or anything
topic related it would be
perfectly suited for the
religious demographic.
Race
Race is not used in this
specific project mainly
because it is not aimed
at a certain race as it
wouldn’t be meeting the
criteria for 'Culture of the
digital age'.
Income level
My documentary is not
aimed at a specific
income level as it is not a
product that is needed to
be bought. This means
that anyone can find a
way to see this
documentary.
