Modern advances in car technology have come a long way. A Head-up Display, or HUD, first appeared in military aircraft. Around 1994, I played a flight combat simulator named Strike Commander. It allowed flying F-16s in mercenary fashion.
Designing the Experience Continuum: Typography in the Age of the Connected Ev...Jason Pamental
With the explosion of small-form-factor, low-cost connected devices like fitness trackers, medical devices and ‘smart dashboards’, the spectrum across which we communicate has gotten broader than ever. When thinking about using a wearable fitness tracker with a small screen, how it connects from a design perspective to the ‘connected app’, to the desktop health tracker portal and even to TV/print advertising for that product—there are very few elements that translate across all those screens and devices to tie the experience together.
The type we use plays an increasingly important role in conveying critical information in a consistent and ‘glance-able’ way, and in getting across brand voice and creating emotional connection between user and device and organization. This talk will explore how new developments in technology and cognitive science extend the reach of our design landscape from the smallest to the biggest of screens.
The head-up display (HUD) creates a new form of presenting information by enabling a user to simultaneously view a real scene and superimposed information without large movements of the head or eye scans.

⚬ Marie-Anne Mittet, Localization Expert for ADAS and Autonomous Driving chez Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi /www.renault.com/

From the invention of the car there is a great relation between human and car. Because by the invention of the car the automobile industry was established, by this car the traveling time from one place to another place is reduced. The car brings royalty from the invention. As cars are coming on roads at that time there are so many accidents are occurring due to lack of driving knowledge & drink driving and soon, In that view only the Google took a great project, i.e. Google Driverless Car in these the Google puts the technology in the car, that technology was Artificial Intelligence with Google map view. The input video camera was fixed beside the front mirror inside the car, A LIDAR sensor was fixed on the top of the vehicle, RADAR sensor on the front of the vehicle and a position sensor attached to one of the rear wheels that helps locate the cars position on the map, The Computer, Router, Switch, Fan, Inverter, rear Monitor, Topcon, Velodyne, Applanix and Battery are kept inside the car.
These all components are connected to computer’s CPU and the monitor is fixed on beside of the driver seat, these we can observe in that monitor and can operate all the operations.
A GPS tracking system is a common way of getting real-time vehicle location data. GPS technology is often employed in modern car tracking systems, however other forms of autonomous vehicle location technologies can also be used. A GPS tracking system comprised of hardware, open-source software, a web server, and an easy-to-manage user interface via a web server with Google Map was presented. The goal of this project is to develop and build a hand-held wireless GPS tracking device that can be tracked remotely via the Internet. There are three parts to this research. A mobile device with GPS and a wireless Internet connection is the first component. Our hardware project, which contains an LCD, GPS, GSM, Arduino Uno, and sensor linked to service, is the second portion.

2. Context / Motivation
Most current navigation assistance systems (e.g. GPS
devices) are HDD (Head-Down Displays).
Problems with this approach:
✘ Driver has to look away from the road
✘ Reduced reflexes due to the context switch
We can do better:
✔ HUD (Head-Up Displays)
(superimpose virtual images directly in the driver's field of view)
✔ AR (Augmented Reality)
(seamlessly integrate virtual elements into the real world context)

4. Proposed system3Requirements Challenges Proposed solutions
In complex intersections,
precise positioning of the
virtual elements is crucial to
reduce decision errors and
delay.
GPS is not enough for this:
~15m accuracy.
Differential GPS (~10cm
accuracy) is not widespread
yet.
Enhanced positioning using
outer camera and structure
from motion (SfM) computer
vision algorithms.
Such precision then
requires correct motion
parallax to avoid
unalignment issues when
the driver moves their head.
Specialized sensors or
headgear would increase
the system's cost and
complexity.
Video-based head tracking
with infrared cameras.
Finally, the virtual elements
must be viewable while
looking at the road (without
shifting focus to the
windshield).
Stereo images could solve
this, but would require
replacing the windshield
with a more sophisticated
display.
Horizontal lines (instead of
continuous virtual path)
which can be fused due to
lack of vertical edges.
7. Research questions
Do horizontal lines work to avoid stereoscopy?
Otherwise, enhanced windshields might be needed for
AR content.
Is computer vision enough for fine adjustment of the GPS?
Other components might be needed: accelerometers,
gyroscopes, compass, mechanical trackers, infrared
sensors, laser sensors...
What projection hardware is best for AR car navigation?
In terms of size, display quality, robustness to visibility
conditions, cost... (potential alternative: AR glasses).
