The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) was established by the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health to provide access to biomedical and genomic data. NCBI contains a series of databases relevant to biotechnology and biomedicine, and provides tools for viewing, analyzing, storing, and retrieving data. It works with other international databases through the International Nucleotide Sequence Database Collaboration to share genomic sequence data and act as an information center.
