Ancient Rome originated as a collection of villages along the Tiber River around 750 B.C., eventually uniting to form the city of Rome. Succession to the Roman throne was primarily determined by family ties, whether natural or adoptive, alongside military support. The Augustan Age is noted for ushering in a period of peace, reducing internal conflict and external warfare, while also facing challenges of bureaucracy and corruption.
