• Competence and Competence Overview
Competence is defined as having
the abilities to meet the
requirements for a particular role.
competency is an expected level of performance that integrates knowledge, skills,
abilities, and judgment
ANA,2014
Health-care organizations use many resources to determine
competency. State board licensure, national certification, and
performance review are some of the methods used to satisfy
competency requirements (Huston, 2014a).
For staff development purposes, some staff development activity must
be implemented to correct the deficiencies.
Nurse executive set the vision for nursing practice in the delivery of
safe, timely, efficient, equitable and patient-centered care.
the nurse executive is influential in improving the patient experience of
care (including quality and satisfaction), improving the health of
populations and reducing the per capita cost of health care.
The AONE Nurse Executive Competencies detail the skills knowledge
and abilities that guide the practice of nurse leaders in executive
practice regardless of their educational level, title or setting.
