 Angelo Consiglio, MD, possesses more than a decade of experience as an
ear, nose, and throat physician. Currently, Dr. Angelo Consiglio treats
patients through a practice in Marianna, Florida. Outside of work, he gives
back to the community by supporting a range of organizations, including the
American Cancer Society (ACS). This organization fuels research designed
to detect, prevent, and treat a variety of cancers.
Recently, ACS teamed with other professional, government, and nonprofit
organizations to create the National Lung Cancer Roundtable, an initiative
that aims to reduce the mortality from lung cancer in the United States. The
new entity will help ensure that people at high risk for lung cancer undergo
regular, quality screenings and that patients with the disease have access
to state-of-the-art care centers at each stage of treatment.
In the United States, lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-
related death, with more than 150,000 people dying from the disease in
2016. Altogether, lung cancer accounts for about one in four cancer deaths.
The recent National Lung Screening Trial showed that quality screening
reduces lung cancer deaths, which has highlighted the need for increasing
access to such screenings.
