3. Uses of a Classroom Study Table
A classroom study table serves as a valuable piece of furniture that supports various educational
activities and enhances the learning environment. Study tables provide students with a dedicated
space for focused, individual/group learning, doing homework and assignment. They can spread
out textbooks, notebooks, and other study materials, which helps improve concentration and
productivity.
Many study tables come with designated areas for laptops or computers. This is essential for
students who need to access digital resources, conduct online research, or complete assignments
that require technology. Students pursuing art, crafts, or other creative activities can use study
tables as the flat surface allows for drawing, painting, and crafting.
Study tables can serve multiple purposes, making them versatile furniture. They can be used for
reading, taking notes, and even as a place to eat lunch or snacks. Well-designed study tables can
enhance the aesthetics of the classroom, creating a more inviting and motivating learning
environment. Quality study tables are designed with ergonomics in mind. They provide a
comfortable, posture-friendly environment for students, reducing the risk of discomfort or strain
during long study sessions.
4. Features
Features of a classroom study Table include -
1. Flat Work Surface - Study tables have a flat and spacious work surface where students can
place their books, laptops, notebooks, and other study materials.
2. Adjustable Height - Some study tables, especially those designed for computer use, come
with adjustable heights to accommodate users of different sizes and provide ergonomic support.
3. Storage Options - Many study tables have built-in storage options such as drawers, shelves, or
cabinets for organizing books, stationery, and other study-related items.
4. Cup Holders or Accessory Trays - Some study tables come with cup holders or accessory
trays to hold drinks, snacks, or small study supplies.
The design of the table takes into consideration ergonomics to provide a comfortable and
posture-friendly workspace, reducing the risk of discomfort or strain during extended study
sessions.
5. Design Problems
Problems:-
1. Space Constraints - Many classrooms have limited space, which can make it challenging to
design study tables that accommodate all students comfortably. Tables that are too large can
lead to congestion, while those that are too small can be uncomfortable to work at.
2. Lack of Storage - Students often need storage space for their books, stationery, and
personal belongings. If the study table design lacks sufficient storage options, it can lead to
clutter and disorganization.
3. Accessibility - Tables should be designed to be accessible for all students, including those
with disabilities. This might involve considering the height and design of tables for students
with mobility impairments or visual/hearing impairments.
5. Safety - The design should minimize safety hazards, such as sharp edges, unstable
structures, or materials that may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals
6. Anthropometric Measurements Used

Classroom Study Table
Sitting Height
Clearance required between
seat and overhead obstacles.
Can also be used for
determining height of booth
partitions.
Eye Height Sitting
Centre of the visual field for
establishing sight lines. Can
also be useful in establishing
heights of privacy screens.
Elbow Rest Height
Height of armrests; important
reference datum for the heights
of desk tops, keyboards, etc.,
with respect to the seat.
Side Arm Reach
Location of controls and
shelves located sideways.
7. Material Used
Plywood- Plywood structural panels are extremely durable and are designed to withstand both
uniform loads perpendicular to their surfaces and high loads parallel to their surfaces. Plywood
provides all of the inherent benefits of the parent wood as well as enhanced properties due to its
laminated structure. Because of its cross laminated structure, plywood has nearly double the panel
shear of solid wood. As a result, plywood is an excellent material for use in classroom study tables.
Metal for the legs- Metal furniture is made of durable materials, making it long-lasting. It is also
trendy and adds to the aesthetic value of your furniture.

11. Summary
Classroom study Table exudes style and adds a touch of charm to your space; it is an essential
component of class furniture and serves a variety of functions and purposes.
As previously stated, the commonly available styles of classroom study tables in the market did
not meet students expectations. Some had little or no storage space, others had a very small
table in which a person couldn’t be comfortable.
I proposed a design that is big yet compact, on the upper surface there is space for holding of
tablets, mobile phones and bottles holders as well, also the table is quite uplift then there is
height adjuster , plenty of storage, foot rest.
