Alice In Wonderland

Alice In Wonderland
Over the summer I read Alice In Wonderland. I enjoyed the book and felt
as though I could not put it down. The book starts off with a young girl, Alice,
who falls into a hole, following a rabbit. As the story goes on Alice is constantly
growing and shrinking in size and meeting these strange characters such as the
Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and many other characters. The story ends with
Alice is woken up by her sister, and as Alice reports of her adventures, her
sister tells her it was all a dream. Yet when Alice leaves, her sister finds herself
with the same dream.
Alice is the main character who travels throughout Wonderland in the
book. Alice is an intelligent, curious, strange, and confused character. Alice
finds herself letting her curiosity get the best of her before thinking it through.
Alice decides to drink the mysterious drink instead of thinking what it could do
to her. She doesn’t learn from her mistake and continues doing this through
out the book. Alice is also very book smart. She can recite poem after poem,
and rhyme after rhyme but is not “street smart.” As Alice wanders alone she
meets a caterpillar who asked her who she is. Alice replies “I ca’n’t explain
myself, I’m afraid Sir, because I’m not myself you see.” (55)This quotes shows
two of her characteristics. The first is that she is extremely confused. She can’t
recite things correctly, and has grown and shrunk more than one could even
imagine. The quote also shows her intelligence. I don't believe Alice really

understands what goes on throughout the book. She is very oblivious to what is
truly going on. For Alice’s age she is very proper and grammatical. Alice takes a
bottle of potion and drinks it. Normally if you find yourself falling in a hole and
end up in a strange room, most of us don’t go and drink the unknown
substance on the table. Alice is a very different kind of character.
The Mad Hatter is a character that Alice meets on her Journey. He is a
man with top hats and enjoys riddles. He often blurts out riddles at random.
The Mad Hatter takes all statements literally. “Why you might just as well say
that I see what I eat is the same thing as I eat what I see!” (80) This is what the
Mad Hatter tell Alice at the Tea party. He is debating with her whether she said I
mean what I say or I say what I mean. The Mad Hatter thinks literally and is very
intelligent. The Mad Hatter is another interesting, and different character.
My favorite the book is when Alice is in court. I really enjoyed when the
court was preparing, the jurors were getting the names down, and Bill’s pencil
was making a noise so Alice decided so take the pencil away from him. I
thought it was very entertaining when he tried to write with his finger the whole
time, yet nothing was coming out. The Mad Hatter was the first witness and
when he began to get nervous, Alice began to grow again. I found it amusing
that no one in the court knew what they were doing. The King took every action
as either expectable or your executed. As the trial goes on and on nothing

makes sense in the Kings logic. This was my favorite part because it kept you
reading and was entertaining.
Alice In Wonderland was full of twist and turns, puzzles, and crazy
characters. I was unable to put it down because every chapter you met a new
character and something new happened. My favorite character other than Alice
was the Mad Hatter. Alice is a smart, curious, and strange character, where the
Mad Hatter is whacky and entertaining. I enjoyed this book and am hoping to
read Through The Looking Glass.
