Sally K. Ride was the first American woman to fly to space. She was an astronaut and physicist who flew on the space shuttle Challenger in 1983. Ride helped design the robot arm for the space shuttle and authored several children's science books later in life. She broke barriers as the first U.S. woman in space and inspired young girls by showing them they didn't have to be boys to have adventures and pursue careers in science and space exploration.
This document discusses aliens and UFO sightings. It defines aliens as beings from another world and notes several reported sightings over time, including Kenneth Arnold spotting a UFO in 1947. The document also describes a story of Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin seeing aliens on the moon in 1969 after landing. Finally, it mentions an alien crash near Roswell, New Mexico in July 1947 and that the area is forbidden.
This document provides a brief biography of four famous people: Oswaldo Guayasamín, Mother Teresa, Christopher Columbus, and Thomas Edison. It includes their dates of birth, marital status, country of origin, occupations, and dates of death. The document then instructs students to work in pairs, taking turns asking and answering questions about the biographies using the information in the chart. It provides an example role-playing interview between a student playing an interviewer and another student playing a famous person. It ends with a quote from Mother Teresa.
This presentation includes history of astronautics, spacecrafts, a space race between USA and Soviets. Also you can learn more information about space from this presentation.
The document discusses several famous explorers throughout history and their accomplishments. It mentions Christopher Columbus discovering the Americas in 1492. Ferdinand Magellan was the first to sail around the world between 1519-1522. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953. Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon in 1969. The document also provides questions about what remains left to explore.
Neil Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. He was born in 1930 in Ohio and had a passion for flying from a young age. Armstrong worked as a test pilot where he tested experimental aircraft. This led to him being selected by NASA as an astronaut. In 1969, as commander of Apollo 11, Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to land on the moon. Armstrong uttered the famous words "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" when he stepped onto the lunar surface.
This document provides a summary of the life and experiences of George Adamski, a 1950s UFO contactee who claimed encounters with extraterrestrials. It describes how Adamski was a philosopher and amateur astronomer living in California who began photographing UFOs in the sky. In 1952, Adamski had his first contact with an extraterrestrial, described as a tall blond man, in the Mojave Desert. Adamski went on to become a prominent figure in early UFO circles, lecturing and publishing about his experiences. The document examines Adamski's background and the events leading up to his famous claimed encounter in 1952.
The document discusses the history of space suits and American astronaut Alan Shepard. It notes that Shepard was the first American to travel to space in 1959 wearing an early space suit, and that he went on to fly on the Apollo 14 mission to the moon. The document also provides background on the development of space suits for walking on the moon during the 1960s space race and outlines some key facts about Alan Shepard's career, including his various awards and retirement from NASA in 1974.

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).

QR Secure: A Hybrid Approach Using Machine Learning and Security Validation Functions to Prevent Interaction with Malicious QR Codes.
Aim of the Study: The goal of this research was to develop a robust hybrid approach for identifying malicious and insecure URLs derived from QR codes, ensuring safe interactions.
This is achieved through:
Machine Learning Model: Predicts the likelihood of a URL being malicious.
Security Validation Functions: Ensures the derived URL has a valid certificate and proper URL format.
This innovative blend of technology aims to enhance cybersecurity measures and protect users from potential threats hidden within QR codes 🖥 🔒

[OReilly Superstream] Occupy the Space: A grassroots guide to engineering (an...Jason Yip
The typical problem in product engineering is not bad strategy, so much as “no strategy”. This leads to confusion, lack of motivation, and incoherent action. The next time you look for a strategy and find an empty space, instead of waiting for it to be filled, I will show you how to fill it in yourself. If you’re wrong, it forces a correction. If you’re right, it helps create focus. I’ll share how I’ve approached this in the past, both what works and lessons for what didn’t work so well.
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.
This talk will cover ScyllaDB Architecture from the cluster-level view and zoom in on data distribution and internal node architecture. In the process, we will learn the secret sauce used to get ScyllaDB's high availability and superior performance. We will also touch on the upcoming changes to ScyllaDB architecture, moving to strongly consistent metadata and tablets.
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
