4. • Education: Eiesle earned a BS from the US
Naval Academy and a MS in Astronautics at
the Air Force Institute of Technology at
Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio.
5. Previous Experience
• Eiesle was an Air Force project engineer and
test pilot prior to joining the space program.
He logged more than 4200 hours.
6. NASA Experience
• Eiesle joined the space program in 1963 one
of the third group of astronauts selected. He
was command module pilot for the Apollo VII
mission. He served as backup command
module pilot for the Apollo X flight. He logged
260 hours in space.
7. Post NASA Experience
• Eiesle left the space program in 1972 to
become the director of the Peace Corps in
Thailand. After his time in Thailand he worked
for Marion Power Sovel Company and the
investments firm of Oppen Heimer &
company.
8. Awards
• Eisele received NASA exceptional Service
Metal the Air Force Distinguished flying cross
and numerous other awards.
9. Astronauts life
• Born in Columbus, Ohio on June 23,1930.Died
on December 2, 1987 of a heart attack while
on a trip to Japan. He is survived by his wife
Susan and there two children .
