3. 1) INTRODUCTION (GMO Alfalfa):
GMO stands for Genetically Modified
Organism (Animal/Plant) which alters the gene of
the an Organism through genetic engineering.
ALFALFA is an herb that grows throughtout the
year .It has a life span that varies from four years to
over twenty year .Alfalfa grow best when grown
alongside other plants and crops.
Bionomial Nomenclature
Alfalfa :Medicago sative
The part of this plant that are typically used are
the tops ,leaves ,seed and the stem.The name Alfalfa
came from North America .It is also called Lucerne
because it’s name is commonly used in UNITED
KIGDOM ,SOUTH AFRICA ,AUSTRALIA AND NEW
4. ZEALAND .It is cultivated as an important forage crop
in many countries around the world .It is used for many
purpose like grazing ,hay as a green manure and cover
crop .
Alfalfa is used for kidney condition ,bladder and
prostate condition and to increase urine flow .It is also
used for high cholesterol,asthma,osteoarthritis
,rheumatoid ,arthritis ,diabetes,upset stomach and
bleeding disorder .People also take alfalfa as a source
of vitamins A,C ,E,and K4;and mineral calcium
,potassium,phosphorous and iron .It consist of clusters
of small purple flowers followed by Friuts spiralled
containing 10 – 20 seed .It is found in warm a
temperate climate .Alfalfa seems to prevent cholesterol
absorption in the gut.
5. 2) History :
In ancient period of India, India Ayurvedic
has prescribe to use Alfalfa seed and spourts which
help in improving blood cell production ,leave and
steam are the good source of protein and mineral.
In 16th
century in Spanish people were very
much aware of alfalfa advantages is better than grass
as food for working hores. In 18th
century North A
merican gave the name called “luerne”.Since now
North and South America Produce a large amount of
alfalfa in the world .
6. 3) WHY GM0 ALFALFA :
As we know that nowdays population
increasing day by day due which there is deleption of
nature resource ,which different kind of problem to the
human health like kidney problem,cholesterol .asthma
,lack of vitamin,iron calcium and mineral .Inorder to
solve these big problem we need big amount of Alfalfa
which is only possible when it is GMO not by naturally.
7. The most important reason of ALFALFA is that
it is known to have its roots growing up to almost thirty
feet into the ground .Hence,this plant tends to bring up
the minerals from the soil that is not usually available
at the surface .
Third reason is that Alfalfa is fourth largest
crop in the United States, behind corn,soybeans and
wheat and is valued at around $8 billion ,It’s grown in
around 200 million acres in every state in this country
and is mostly used to make hey feed to dairy producing
cows and horse.There are several other important
reason of Alfalfa.
As we known that in these world every things
has its Advantage and Disadvantage .If any thing has
Advantage ,ofcourse that thing has Disadvantage but
might be less or more like “If day is there than there is
night also”.Likewise ,ALFALFA has it Advantage and
Disadvantage .
8. 4) How modified ?
As we know that all genetic engineering
is done by Biotechnology company ,Monsanto
genetically engineering the Alfalfa plant to be able to
resist Roundup herbicide.
It was modified by invading an alfalfa
plant cell through the use of E.coli bacteria gene into it
DNA that will allow it survive expose to Glyphosate and
Roundup Reading alfalfa which resist the Roundup.
9. 5) Advantage :
a) Nutrition:
Alfalfa is also called “nutrient food “ by Nutrition Research
Center describes. It consist more protein than in plant ,ALFALFA
is rich in all kind of vitamin like A,B1,B6,C,E and K as well as
calcium ,potassium,iron and zine.
b) Anti-inflammatory products:
A test of inflammation was done at National Taiwan
University Department of Bio-Chemical Science and Technologly
in Repulic of China and found that ALFALFAS sprout were less
likely to have increase inflammation .So,it consider as Anti –
inflammatory product.
c) Immune system:
As we know that Immunw system main system of our
body .Alfalfa has promise for the treatment of autoimmune
disorder and it was support by Natinal Taiwan University in
Taipei,Tawian and pubhished in the march 2009 issue of
“lupus”.They have took Alfalfa Sprout ethyl acetate extract to
test auto immune disorder .Finally they Concluded that Alfalfa
has potential for treatment of autoimmune .
d) Antioxidant Effects and Potential Radiation :
Alfalfa has antioxidant properties which is good for the
protection of cell from x-ray and other different kind of
radiation.A research was done of Alfalfa and other two herbs
and it was found that Alfalfa reduces the free radical , it result
was published in the January/February 2008.

As we know that high Cholesterol lead several serious
medical condition such as heart disease and stroke which death
of the patient .A study was done at and founded that Alfalfa
reduced 30%of Cholesterol for a period of eight week.
ALFALFA seed (GMO Alfalfa) which resist

chemical on the plant ,time , labor ,money on weeding .

Organic farmer and consumers argue that the GMO
plant will cross-pollinate will the Non-GMO“Contaminating” the
organic crop. Only effectively one percent of the total Alfalfa crop is
organic ,these risk of cross –pollination .
If the organic Alfalfa contain any traces of GMO,then it lead
to:
1) Fewer organic Alfalfa crops.
2) Fewer organic dairy farmers and higher prices.
3) Less organic meat.
4) It can make skin more sensitive to the sun .
5) It has negative effect on Pregnant.
