George Nissen and Larry Griswold invented the modern trampoline in 1936 by adding coiled springs, a frame, and safety mats to create a rebounding device. They went on to found the Griswold-Nissen Trampoline & Tumbling Company. Trampolines are now used in gymnastics, diving, circus acts, and other sports for training purposes. While trampolines provide exercise and fun, they also carry injury risks that have led some medical professionals to advise against their use.
