Madeleine F. Green is vice president for international initiatives at the American Council
on Education (ACE), a membership association of 1800 member institutions and
associations. It is the major voluntary coordinating body for U.S. higher education. Dr.
Green has served as an ACE staff member since 1974 and as vice president since 1987.
She currently oversees ACE’s international agenda. Dr. Green has written numerous
articles and essays on management, leadership, and international issues in higher
education and is the editor or co-author of five books. Her most recent publications
include Internationalizing the Campus: A User’s Guide (2003) (with Christa Olson);
“Joining the World: Internationalizing U.S. Higher Education,” Change Magazine, May
2002, and “Internationalizing the Campus: A Strategic Approach,”International
Educator, Winter 2003. Green has authored a number of research studies on
internationalization and is co-author of the monograph series On Change (American
Council on Education, 1999-2002).
Dr Green serves on the board of trustees of Juniata College (PA), the Forum on
Education Abroad, and the International Association of Universities. She previously
served as a trustee of Sweetbriar College (VA) and Wilson College (PA). She holds a
B.A. magna cum laude from Radcliffe College/Harvard University, and the M.A. and
Ph.D. from Columbia University, both in French literature.
