alcoholic items.
• Since growth opportunities are few compared to
existing business, many members of the industry
endeavor to diversify their offerings to better
compete and gain share.
• They may pursue lucrative distribution
arrangements and/or acquisitions to expand their
operations, product portfolios, and geographic
reach.
Non alcoholic Segment
• Non-alcoholic beverages are broadly segmented
into soft drinks and hot drinks. Soft drinks
typically contain carbonated/non-carbonated
water, sweeteners, and flavoring ingredients.
• Soft drinks market segment includes carbonates,
juice, bottled water, ready-to-drink tea and
coffee, and sports & energy drinks
• On the other hand, hot drinks market segment
comprises of coffee and tea.
Non alcoholic Segment -Global
• The global nonalcoholic beverage market size was
valued at USD 967.3 billion in 2016. The market is
anticipated to grow at an estimated CAGR of 5.8%
from 2017 to 2025 owing to factors such as rising
disposable income, population growth, and
changing lifestyle.
• Increasing concerns regarding obesity and health
awareness are expected to trigger the growth of
functional beverage and bottled water product
segment, while at the same time limit the
demand for carbonated drinks.
Non alcoholic Segment-Indian
• Non-alcoholic beverage market in India, evidently similar to the
global scenario, is dominated by two giant players in the beverage
industry: Coca-Cola Company and PepsiCo, Inc. These companies
combined together account for around 60% of the carbonated-
drinks market in India. In the meanwhile, fruit-based beverage
market is dominated by players including Dabur, Parle Agro, and
HUL.
• As per market research, the non-alcoholic beverage industry in
India stood at US$2.5 billion in 2015. The market is estimated to
grow at a CAGR of over 17% in between the period from 2016 to
2020 to reach US$4.9 billion by 2020. The following figures depict
the growth of non-alcoholic beverage industry in India from 2011 to
2015, and the estimated growth from 2016 to 2020.

• The brewers, vintners(wine merchant), distillers,
importers, distributors, and retail or online
outlets that sell or serve beer, wine, and distilled
spirits.
• The alcohol beverage industry generally follows a
government regulated three-tiered system of
manufacturer, distributor and retailer.
• The alcohol beverage industry, as any other
industry, works and develops as business, with
shareholder’s interests as the leading dictum.
Alcobev Industry
• Alcoholic Beverages Market was valued at
$1,344 billion in 2015, and is projected to
reach $1,594 billion by 2022, growing at a
CAGR of 2.1% from 2016 to 2022
• Asia-Pacific is the leader in alcoholic beverages
market in both volume and value terms, and is
expected to continue leading the market
through 2022.
Alcobev Industry
• In terms of value, distilled spirits segment is expected
to grow at a CAGR of 2.4% during the forecast period.
• In Asia-Pacific, India is estimated to be the fastest
growing country, in terms of value, growing at a CAGR
of 2.4% during 2016-2022.
• Supermarket as a distribution channel occupied around
one-thirds of the global market share in 2015, in value
terms.
• China accounted for half of the Asia-Pacific alcoholic
beverages market in 2015, and is expected to grow at a
significant CAGR of 2.3%, in terms of value.
Alcobev Industry
India represents one of the most compelling spirits opportunities
in the world.
The Indian total beverage alcohol market is worth £5.3b and is
forecast to grow at 8-10% CAGR in value over next 5 years.
A favourable demographic dividend with an increase of 270m in
the working age population by 2030 is good news for the alcobev
industry.
19mn new Indian consumers enter the legal drinking age each
year; 1bn+ within 10 years. So the economic and demographic
opportunity is extremely attractive.
Alcobev Industry
• India’s alcohol industry is the third largest(China, Russia) in the world with a value
of $35 billion. The industry is divided into three categories: Indian Manufactured
Foreign Liquor (IMFL), beer, and homemade liquor(Country liquor)
• Whiskey dominates the IMFL category, and India has the largest whiskey industry
in the world. (growth rate of 11.9%)
• India-based United Spirits Limited’s McDowell’s No. 1 is the most prominent
whiskey. Its Royal Challenge and Bagpiper are also popular. Other prevalent
whiskeys include French Pernod Ricard’s Imperial Blue, Seagram’s Blender’s Pride,
and Royal Stag and Japanese Beam Global’s Teacher’s.
• Rum is the second most common spirit in India. India-based Mohan Meakin Ltd.’s
Old Monk is popular.
• Gin and vodka also comprise the IMFL category, growing in demand among urban
youth and women. Bermuda-based Bacardi’s Bombay Sapphire gin and U.K.-based
Diageo’s Smirnoff vodka are top products.
