Al-Armor, LLC provides protective textured coatings for
aluminum alloys that eliminate all the problems typical of
state of the art coatings for aluminum. The novel
features of Al-Armor coatings include the following:
Al-Armor has a metallurgical bond to age hardened aluminum alloys,
but coating deposition does not damage the mechanical properties of
the substrate.
 Al-Armor has bond strength similar to alloy tensile strength (>13,000
psi) compared to mechanically bonded products with typical bond
strength of about 2000 psi for other commercially available coatings.
Al-Armor contains only aluminum and aluminum compounds, so the
galvanic corrosion problems that are characteristic of state of the art
coatings are not possible. Thus, Al-Armor coatings have corrosion
resistance as good (C22) or much better (CZ) than the substrate.
ASTM G-77 sliding wear test results demonstrate that the Al-Armor
C22 product has 12X better wear resistance than uncoated alloy 6061 at
3.6 Kg load.
 Al-Armor can be manufactured in a variety of
surface finishes with measurements ranging
from 500 µ-in to 900 µ-in for the CZ product
line and up to 1200 µ-in for the C22 coatings.
