2. Aluminum castings play an important role in products for a wide range of industries.
These include aerospace, military, electronics, medical and dental instruments and food
and dairy applications, to name just a few.
It is a material well-known for its high
strength-to-weight ratio, which makes
aluminum an ideal material for countless
casting applications. Heat treating can be
employed to give it greater strength, ductility,
corrosion resistance, and machinability.
3. Aluminum Grades Used in
Investment Casting
Aluminum Alloy 319 -- 319 contains around
6% Si and 3.5% copper and is often used for
general low cost uses because of its excellent
casting and machining characteristics.
• Ultimate Tensile Strength -- 27,000 psi
• Yield Strength -- 16,000 psi
4. Aluminum Grades Used in
Investment Casting
Aluminum Alloy A356 -- This alloy has higher
strength and ductility than 356 because the
levels of impurities are lower. A356 aluminum
castings cost a little more but are great for
machine parts, chassis parts, along with other
structural parts requiring high strength or
pressure tightness.
• Tensile Strength -- 38-48,000 psi
• Yield Strength -- 28-36,000 psi
5. Aluminum Grades Used in
Investment Casting
Almag 35 (Alloy 535) -- The aluminum alloy 535,
better known as Almag 35, is a lightweight high
strength aluminum magnesium alloy that doesn't
require heat treatment. Almag 35 offers excellent
corrosion resistance, machines well and is also
dimensionally stable making it great for products
such as instruments or marine aluminum sand
castings, as well as other uses.
• Tensile Strength -- 40,000 psi
• Yield Strength -- 27,5000 psi

7. Benefits of Aluminum
Investment Casting
Investment casting of aluminum enables the
casting of complex-geometry parts, with shorter
lead times, greater alloy flexibility, tighter
dimensional tolerances and better surface
finishes, resulting in near-net shape parts that
require less machining and other processing
than other aluminum casting processes.
8. Benefits of Aluminum
Investment Casting
Avalon Precision Metalsmiths offers lost wax
aluminum casting services for customers
across the U.S. from its foundries in Cleveland,
Ohio, and Markesan, Wis.
9. Benefits of Aluminum
Investment Casting
