The Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies (AIMS) at Miami University examines how digital technology transforms traditional fields of study. AIMS offers a variety of curricular options for students including minors, co-majors, and international programs. A key part of the AIMS curriculum is the capstone practicum Armstrong Interactive, where students work in teams on projects for paying clients.

The goal of D-TRANSFORM (http://www.dtransform.eu/) is to implement a training program for leaders of European universities (presidents, vice-presidents) focusing on the major role played by digital technologies and Open Educational Resources (OER) in the necessary transformation of their institutions. The premise is that e-education (digital pedagogy and training) can become a strategic tool for European universities, enabling them to be pedagogically more effective, more cost-effective, more attractive and able to meet the needs of the professional world with regard to youth training and life-long learning.
This webinar focused on a comparative survey between Spain, France, Italy and the United Kingdom on public digital policies and Dr. Szucs presented an overview on the business models for opening up education – Sustainability of MOOCs, OER and related online education approaches in higher education in Europe. The presentation also aimed to answer the question of whether Open Educational Resources are a lever for digital transition of higher education.

The joint venture between the academic research on learning technology and industry along the past decade shares similarity with the gold rush: great effort for a too small outcome. From all the energy spent, “acadustry” has emerged; a chimerical community of practice, merging academic and industry objectives and traditions. The relevance and fruitfulness of this new community is questionable. This presentation will suggest revisiting the orientation of the eLearning research policy, taking into account the differences in nature between academic research, R&D and actual production and use. Among the priorities of policies to discuss, the following will be mentioned: (i) an incentive to reach a research consensus that complements the standardization effort; (ii) a strategic alliance between industry and research at a basic level for a common and enhanced understanding of differences and commonalities; (iii) a new balance between long lasting support to research, especially for pan-European initiatives in the context of ERA and in line with the current FP6 Networks of Excellence, and competitive calls focussing on specific actions. At a thematic level, this presentation will outline the lessons learned throughout the past decade and express a view on research priorities from a foundational and applied perspective.

The Ibero-American Science and Technology Education Consortium (ISTEC) is a non-profit organization comprised of educational, research, industrial, and multilateral organizations throughout the Americas and the Iberian Peninsula. The Consortium was established in 1990 to foster scientific, engineering, and technology education, joint international research and development efforts among its members, and to provide a cost-effective vehicle for the application and transfer of technology. Learning delivery in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) is
being reshaped before our eyes, thanks in part to advances

In order to understand more about the ever-evolving
relationship between technology and learning, we spent time
speaking with six of the UK’s leading learning technologists
working within HEIs.
In a series of interviews exploring current practice, changing
needs and key trends, we were able to establish how digital
devices are being used in universities and how cutting-edge
technology can continue to compliment a sector experiencing
fresh emphasis on collaboration, creation and innovation.
This introduction to social media for business was given at the open house of Miami University's Armstrong Institute for Interactive Media Studies. Presented by Glenn Platt and Peg Faimon, AIMS Co-Directors. The presentation was a "teaser" for a two-day workshop on social media marketing and online community engagement.
"Brand As API" is a conceptual framework for understanding new opportunities in branding. This model was unveiled at SXSW Interactive in March 2012 (though it was first presented in a raw form at a P&G GBS Summit in April 2011) and will be detailed in a forthcoming book.
This presentation was given at Miami University's "Winter College" where alums return for lectures. This one hour lecture was targeted to an audience that did not know much about Twitter and wasn't sure why they should care about it. It is largely the personal case for using Twitter, though it references Jeff Bullas' arguments for the business case. It also uses arguments and examples from Clay Shirky, Twitter, and others. The last part of the presentation is in response to a request where the alums submitted a list of interests, and I found twitter resources to match those interests - hence the long list of links.

The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
