2. Latin name – Croton tiglium
English name – Purging croton
Family – Euphorbiaceae
आयुर्वेदानुसार –
पयााय – द्रर्वन्तीबीज – जयपाल – जेपाल – दन्तन्तबीज – तिन्तन्तीीलल
र्वर्ा – ललतर्वष
Category – Organic Irritant poison
Habitat – It is found in abundance in states of Assam, Bengal
and other parts of India.
3. Morphology
• The tree is small and evergreen; it meas ures upto 5-7 meters in
height.
• Branches are small and hairy.
• Leaves are 4 to 10 cm long, broad, egg shaped etc.
• Flowers are greenish-yellow.
• Seeds are oval, dark brown with longitudinal lines and are small
sized and yield crotin and crotonoside.
• The oil (derived from seeds) is brown, viscid with unpleasant odour
and acrid and burning taste.
5. Toxic part-All parts of plant are poisonous but seeds
contain maximum conc. Of poison
• Active principle:
Crotin (toxalbumin)
Crotoniside (glycoside)
Crotonoleic acid
Crotonol
6. Mechanism
•It irritant to skin and mucous membrane, CNS
depressant
•Toxic albumin in nature.
•It is antigenic ,it aggulates blood cells.
•Causes cell destruction i.e.Hemolysis

9. Treatment
As per Modern Toxicology:
•Stomach wash by charcoal
•Demulcent
•Symptomatic management
• IV fluid, blood transplantation
• Emetics
• Morphine and atropine

ं तसिया युक्तं दतर्ना सह यः तपबेि्।
घ्नन्तन्त बीजतर्वकारस्य तनर्वृतिस्तस्य जायिे ।।
(अनुपानमञ्जरी)
•र्तनया, तमश्री और दही – इन िीनों को तमलाकर दें।
•क
ु छ न तमले िो थोडा-सा र्मा पानी तपला दें।
•2 से 4 चार्वल की मात्रा में अलीम न्तिलाकर ऊपर से घी तमला दू र् तपलाने
से भी दस्त बन्द हो जािे हैं।
•तबना घी तनकाली छाछ भी लाभदायक है।

12. Postmortem appearance-
•Mucosa congested, softened, inflamed, erosions,
fragment of seeds may be present
•Dilatation of heart, pleural Hg, oedema of Liver, kidney
spleen and lung

13. Route of administration=
•Skin-Inflamation,

•Oral-Irritation and inflammation in mouth & throat blisters formation

• GIT – Irritation, burning, sensation, blisters in stomach, nausea
vomiting diahrrea (bloody stool then watery stool), dehydration.
• Trachycardia = BP goes low, hypotention (below 100)
• Patient collapsed
•Coma
•Death
14. Purification = Ashuddha jayaphala seeds were cleaned to
remove the physical impurities & then washed with water &
dried in shade per day.
After this it is subjected to swedana using milk in dolayantra
for 3 hours.
