After interviewing several individuals from various career
backgrounds, it became evident that the behaviors of ethical
leaders play a vital role with their leadership skills. One must
be able to have the characteristics of integrity, determination,
and respect since they all identify the traits of an effective
leader. It was identified that the person within this position
should lead by example to encourage others to display positive
behaviors within the workplace. According to Rowold (2011),
the leader is responsible for influencing the behaviors of their
followers, so their values and interests are transformed to
exceed their expectations. Therefore, the traits that are
displayed are essential to the assist with accomplishing the
common goal of the business or company. Additionally, there
are various ways to reinforce ethical behaviors which can be
incorporated with rewards, or corrective action if necessary.
Leadership is necessary with the workplace since it provides a
stable working environment to reach the goal of the business
while working together with all employees who are involved
with the process.

According to the questions that we asked to people of various
unrelated career fields, there were three main behaviors that
were displayed among the interviewees, which were integrity,
determination and respect. Although we researched a few people
in different career fields, but we still got the three major
leadership trait approach to promote synergy. People works in
different career fields has a different style. Different people
will focus on different working style, which can adapt them in
different career. Integrity can inspire confidence in others to
complete the task. The behavior of integrity can influence the
positive in workplace, and let the employees know this is their
responsibility. Determination is the desire to get the job done
and includes characteristics such as initiative, persistence,
dominance and drive. Determination can drive the leader to
motivate the followers to make them believe in a vision.
Respect is also another characteristics mentioned from the
interviews, which makes a good ethical leader. People respect
each other can also motivate followers work hard, and it is also
can reflect how important to people respect each other in career
fields. Therefore, all of these three major characteristics are
positive behaviors. All of these three major characteristics can
influence people work hard with ethical leadership.
While note stated directly, many of the interviewees stressed
the importance of transparency. Transparency is in increasing
demand from followers as leadership theories evolve
(Northouse, 2016). Today’s leaders need to be seen as having
nothing to hide from their followers. Recent research has shown
that a transparent leader increases trust in the leader-follower
relationship (Norman, 2010). Leaders who are not transparent,
or have something to hide, are often perceived as unethical
leaders (Norman, 2010). Our research suggests that practicing
managers maintain as much transparency as possible.
Today’s leaders should listen to what their followers are telling
them. If they “rule with an iron fist,” today’s followers will
respond in a negative light. The research provided in this paper
points to a few key traits that leaders need to exhibit at all time:
Integrity, determination, and respect. These three traits are
something the interviews point to as key traits leaders need to
be effective in the workplace. Without them, the leader opens
him or herself up to criticism, loss of confidence from
followers, suspicion of unethical behaviors, and a general lack
of respect for the authority they hold as leaders.

From conducting interviews from various people to find out
what an ethical leader is what we found was that determination
was a vital component in making a good leader. Interviewees
felt that determination helped the leader show followers that
they are determined to complete a task and succeed.
Determination also is the characteristic trait of a leader that led
the interviewees to respond to a leader. But the dying question
remains how does a leader display determination? Displaying
determination can be a hard task because reaching a goal often
includes many roadblocks along the path to a certain goal. So to
display determination in management one must focus a lot of
energy to a certain task to get certain jobs done. Many
managers who are determined often display a firmness of
purpose and also have enough resolve to reach certain goals and
obstacles. Leaders with determination also have persistence,
persistence is the ability leaders have to get knocked down and
constantly get back up, it’s the pursuit to a certain goal that
keep leaders going. Managers who have determination also
possess drive. Most leaders with drive are able to motivate
followers to make them believe in a vision. Managers practicing
determination also include a certain type of dominance.
Dominance has to do with showing followers that they’re the
“alpha” in whatever situation and directing followers to where
they need to be directed. Lastly determined leaders have
initiative; initiative makes a great manager because it’s not just
doing what they’re told, its finding new ways to do more.
Determined leaders are important to getting anything done
because when a leader is determined there may be obstacles
towards a goal but there are also rewards at the end.
Determination and its many characteristics is the most
important trait towards getting goals done.

  • 1. After interviewing several individuals from various career backgrounds, it became evident that the behaviors of ethical leaders play a vital role with their leadership skills. One must be able to have the characteristics of integrity, determination, and respect since they all identify the traits of an effective leader. It was identified that the person within this position should lead by example to encourage others to display positive behaviors within the workplace. According to Rowold (2011), the leader is responsible for influencing the behaviors of their followers, so their values and interests are transformed to exceed their expectations. Therefore, the traits that are displayed are essential to the assist with accomplishing the common goal of the business or company. Additionally, there are various ways to reinforce ethical behaviors which can be incorporated with rewards, or corrective action if necessary. Leadership is necessary with the workplace since it provides a stable working environment to reach the goal of the business while working together with all employees who are involved with the process. Although we researched a few people
  • 2. in different career fields, but we still got the three major leadership trait approach to promote synergy. People works in different career fields has a different style. Different people will focus on different working style, which can adapt them in different career. Integrity can inspire confidence in others to complete the task. The behavior of integrity can influence the positive in workplace, and let the employees know this is their responsibility. Determination is the desire to get the job done and includes characteristics such as initiative, persistence, dominance and drive. Determination can drive the leader to motivate the followers to make them believe in a vision. Respect is also another characteristics mentioned from the interviews, which makes a good ethical leader. People respect each other can also motivate followers work hard, and it is also can reflect how important to people respect each other in career fields. Therefore, all of these three major characteristics are positive behaviors. All of these three major characteristics can influence people work hard with ethical leadership. While note stated directly, many of the interviewees stressed the importance of transparency. Transparency is in increasing demand from followers as leadership theories evolve (Northouse, 2016). Today’s leaders need to be seen as having nothing to hide from their followers. Recent research has shown that a transparent leader increases trust in the leader-follower relationship (Norman, 2010). Leaders who are not transparent, or have something to hide, are often perceived as unethical leaders (Norman, 2010). Our research suggests that practicing managers maintain as much transparency as possible. Today’s leaders should listen to what their followers are telling them. If they “rule with an iron fist,” today’s followers will respond in a negative light. The research provided in this paper points to a few key traits that leaders need to exhibit at all time: Integrity, determination, and respect. These three traits are something the interviews point to as key traits leaders need to

Without them, the leader opens him or herself up to criticism, loss of confidence from followers, suspicion of unethical behaviors, and a general lack of respect for the authority they hold as leaders. Retrieved February 24, 2016. From conducting interviews from various people to find out what an ethical leader is what we found was that determination was a vital component in making a good leader. Interviewees felt that determination helped the leader show followers that they are determined to complete a task and succeed. Determination also is the characteristic trait of a leader that led the interviewees to respond to a leader. But the dying question remains how does a leader display determination? Displaying determination can be a hard task because reaching a goal often includes many roadblocks along the path to a certain goal. So to display determination in management one must focus a lot of energy to a certain task to get certain jobs done. Many managers who are determined often display a firmness of purpose and also have enough resolve to reach certain goals and obstacles. Leaders with determination also have persistence, persistence is the ability leaders have to get knocked down and constantly get back up, it’s the pursuit to a certain goal that keep leaders going. Managers who have determination also possess drive. Most leaders with drive are able to motivate followers to make them believe in a vision. Managers practicing determination also include a certain type of dominance. Dominance has to do with showing followers that they’re the “alpha” in whatever situation and directing followers to where
  • 4. they need to be directed. Lastly determined leaders have initiative; initiative makes a great manager because it’s not just doing what they’re told, its finding new ways to do more. Determined leaders are important to getting anything done because when a leader is determined there may be obstacles towards a goal but there are also rewards at the end.
