- Aetna reported increased revenue and income for the second quarter and first half of 2005 compared to the same periods in 2004. Total revenue for the quarter rose 12.5% to $5.5 billion and income increased 43.3% to $409.7 million. - Medical membership increased across all categories, with commercial medical membership up 7.7% to 14.2 million. Revenue growth was driven by increased premiums and other income. - Benefits expenses also rose due to higher health care costs, though these increases were partially offset by $55 million in favorable development of prior estimates in the quarter. - Operating margins increased in the health care and group insurance segments.
