ADP PAYROLL
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The purpose of the ADP Payroll Migration project is to improve the timeliness and accuracy of payroll
operations. This project meets Avinger’s need for improved efficiencies across all departments by reducing
payroll cycle time and minimizing staffing required for payroll operations.
Similar types of implementation projects, the new system, and the solution provides expertise in the form of
an implementation partner.
- Payroll migration project plan
- Initiate the project
- Undertake a detailed fact finding and planning exercise
- Execute the stages or phases of the project

DELIVERABLES
Activities which the project team wish to additionally emphasize are (Features of a Successful Payroll
System Implementation):
- Project communications (including communicating with employees)
- Clearly defined objectives and success criteria
- Data cleansing (assuming data will be migrated from the legacy system)
- Production of user guides and other documentation
- Training for the users who will be involved in acceptance testing, pilot and parallel running tests
- User Acceptance Testing of end-to-end processes, inclusive of interface testing
- Data migration for parallel and pilot running
- Solution expertise, with an emphasis on knowledge transfer (skills) from consultants to staff
- Solution training and and running payroll in parallel (two payroll periods)

Success Criteria
Critical success factors are conditions and resources that must be present and available for the project
to be successful. Because these factors typically pertain to commitment of project resources, so that it
can take mitigating action. The critical success factors that have been identified for this project have
been organized into separate, but interrelated, categories as listed below.
• Personnel - people are open to a new process, and there is a willingness and ability to change.
• Processes - the timeline is aggressive and requires prompt decision making.
• Technology - the infrastructure is in place for data conversion, development, training, testing, and
prototyping
• Assumptions - the scope of solution functionality, data conversion, and interfaces have been
correctly defined
It’s about applying “Manufacturing Principals” to convert Business “ASKs” into Products and Services

Project Management
This project will follow the standard project management implementation methodology, which is organized
around five phases:
1. Project Planning and Preview
2. Analysis and Design
3. Configuration and Development
4. Testing and Training
5. Deploy and Optimize

Project Implementation Approach
We will implement a simple, minimally modified, “vanilla” implementation based on ADP best practices.
We will adapt to the new system through configuring the software and changing business processes. As
Avinger grows, the new payroll system will grow to our changing needs.
Key points adopted are:
• Undertake a phased implementation
• Vanilla implantation approach is endorsed at ALL levels
• All levels of the project are empowered to make decisions quickly
• Steering committee evaluates and endorses new policy as needed
• Leverage ADP configuration and expertise
• Immerse users in testing and data conversion

Next Steps
• Schedule Project Kick-Off
• Project Team (Roles and Responsibilities)
• Deliver Key Deliverables / Commitments (SLAs)
• Accelerate Decision Approval Process (Issue Resolution)
• Communication, Documentation and Training Strategies
• Rationalize Enhancement / Process Improvement Requests
• Identify Business Challenges (pain points) or Opportunities for Improvement
