In 2014, Essential Access Health surveyed LAUSD school-based Wellness Centers; gaps in current knowledge and practice related to inclusive clinical care of LGBTQ patients were identified. In 2016, we implemented staff trainings to improve LGBTQ-inclusive services. Based on training evaluation, areas for further technical assistance were identified, and used to develop online training resources. This presentation will discuss tools and best practices for implementing trainings on inclusive care.

The theory of reasoned action (TRA) and theory of planned behavior (TPB) models predict behavioral intentions and behaviors. The TRA model from 1967 examines behavioral intentions rather than attitudes, and the TPB added perceived behavioral control in 1988. The models assess behavioral, normative, and control beliefs that influence attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control and ultimately behavioral intention. While effective in explaining cognitive factors influencing decisions, the models omit external demographic and personality factors and may not predict behaviors with long delays between intention and action.

Reaching Boys and Young Men with STI Prevention Messages

Minnesota’s Chlamydia Partnership and Health Plans Work Togethert
1) Chlamydia rates in Minnesota have been rising, reaching 319 cases per 100,000 people in 2011. Traditional strategies of screening and treating infected individuals have not been able to substantially reduce the rates.
2) In response, the Minnesota Chlamydia Partnership was formed to take a more comprehensive, community-based approach to addressing the epidemic. They developed a statewide Chlamydia Strategy focusing on five strategic areas.
3) Health insurance plans in Minnesota have initiated a three-year program to improve Chlamydia screening rates among providers. They are working with local public health and communities to implement the Minnesota Chlamydia Strategy.
