4. What is acupuncture?
Now, you might be asking yourself right now, “What in the world is acupuncture?”.
Acupuncture is a traditional healing technique which has its origins in ancient
China. It is nearly 3000 years old in its time of practice.
Acupuncture involves applying and inserting small needles in specific points
on the body, only skin deep.
Once applied, the needles help relieve the pain and/or pressure that you are
receiving in that certain area.
5. • Although the actual technique is dated to be about 3000 years old, the
philosophy behind it (Daoism) is over 8000 years old.
• The predecessor to acupuncture needles were stone knives used in ancient
China around the Old Stone Age to heal people (10,000 years ago).
• In the New Stone Age (10,000-4000 years ago), the stone knives became
fine needles and were made from bamboo and bone (as found from
excavation sites in China).
• There is no known sole founder or creator of acupuncture.
• Throughout history, from one ancient Chinese dynasty to another, the
technique of acupuncture were expanded on and improved. There are also
many ancient texts and records of acupuncture, including one from the Song
Dynasty (year 960-1279) called The Illustrated Manual on Points for
Acupuncture and Moxibustion.
• Acupuncture has survived for over 3 millennia and has continued to be a
method of healing the body for many around the world.
6. How does it work?
According to traditional Chinese medicinal theory, the human body is kept healthy by the existence of
yin and yang, two opposing forces. If yin and yang are balanced, you are healthy.
Everyone has a life force or energy called “Qi” flowing through their body. The uninterrupted flow of
Qi helps keep the yin and yang balanced.
Sometimes there are blockages in the flow of Qi in your body and can keep your energy from flowing
through accurately, causing unbalance of yin and yang and pain or illness of the body.
7. How does it work? (continued)
You have more than 2,000 acupuncture points on your body that connect with numerous
pathways. These pathways are called meridians and they consist of 12 primary meridians
and 8 secondary meridians.
The meridians flow Qi throughout your body and through your internal organs.
The purpose of acupuncture is to relieve pain or illness by unblocking disturbances in the Qi
flow of your body.
8. THE PROCESS OF ACUPUNCTURE
Say that you’re having some pain in your neck. You’ve gone to the doctor and chiropractor
but see no avail. You probably have a Qi or energy blockage around some pressure points
on your neck.
John’s Acupuncture can fix that pain in your neck in no time!
First, the affected pressure points are determined and examined.
Next, the pressure points and meridian(s) affected are applied with needles. The needles
are harmlessly pricked through the skin of the point and left there for about 20 minutes.
This will unblock the interruption of Qi flow in your neck and re-balance your yin and yang.
YOU WILL SEE RESULTS ALMOST IMMEDIATLEY AFTER YOU PROCEDURE.
