This document describes the Active Network Group of Emergency Life Savers (ANGELS), a community-based ambulance networking and prehospital care initiative in Kerala, India. ANGELS aims to enhance pre-hospital emergency care to reduce mortality and morbidity from trauma and medical emergencies. It operates a single emergency response number (102) and provides ambulance services, emergency medical technician training, and public awareness programs. ANGELS has received national and international awards for establishing one of the best community-based emergency medical service programs in Asia. It has trained over 40,000 people and helped strengthen emergency response in hospitals, airports, and other institutions across Kerala.

urban areas were trained in various parts of
Kerala
• The doctors and nurses of 4 hospitals in
Kozhikode district
• The entire staff of Calicut international airport
were given FRPC training in 2011.

54. • Volunteers at Sabarimala were trained by ANGELS
this year. The effort came into result with the
reduction of mortality considerably by the timely
basic life support given.
• Five day training was conducted from May 12th to
17th at Trivandrum in association with UNDP and
Trivandrum Corporation for nearly 250 lay public
from selected wards.
