Participants will gain an insight into what online student support can look like, and will have an opportunity to discuss the applicability and feasibility of providing such personalised, proactive support to on-campus students. We will also discuss other areas of transformation, such as the challenge of changing academic perceptions of online learning and commercial partnerships, and the transformation of our business processes to meet the needs of a different model of delivering education.

Since 2002 Jisc has been exploring the use of e-portfolio processes, pedagogies, tools and technologies in a range of learning contexts. Here in this workshop we will showcase the findings and key resources from this body of work, with a focus on the results of Jisc-funded research into e-portfolio implementation at scale, including the ‘threshold concept’ model of e-portfolio implementation, and findings of a subsequent study exploring the critical success factors for implementation.
A range of resources will be shared for participants to engage with, including the ‘e-Portfolio Implementation Toolkit’, which aims to enable others to understand issues around implementation and identify case studies that are most relevant to a their contexts; and video case studies showcasing rich examples of practice. Experience from a recent implementation story using the toolkit will be shared.

Learn how University of Nebraska went from 0 FTE, budget and focus on IT accessibility to two years later leading on policy, procurement, training, and tools/resources at the NU System.
The paper addresses two fundamental questions:
As a growing body of schools and districts recognize the need for deeper, blended, competency-based learning environments for students, how must the role of leaders evolve to create and sustain them?
How must leader preparation and ongoing professional development evolve to fully enable teacher and leader success in this new environment? This paper explores these questions by capturing a diverse set of voices – ranging from current practicing principals to representatives from pioneering programs and organizations whose missions address educational leadership challenges. The team reviewed the literature on leadership development and spent a year tracking the progress of high-performing educational leadership programs, talking to practitioners and researchers at conferences and events to learn from others passionate about this work; this yielded dozens of conversations and 50 guest blog contributions to inform the research, resulting in a paper that is a compilation of many voices, perspectives and ideas.

Presentation by Rebecca Ferguson to the FutureLearn Academic Network (FLAN) meeting held at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona on 27 January 2017. ‘What does the UK FLAN research tell us’ looks at 167 papers published by UK universities that are partnered with the FutureLearn MOOC platform. It focuses on priority areas for research, and the pressing research questions that emerge from the current research.

What does the future hold for learning analytics? In terms of Europe’s priorities for learning and training, they will need to support relevant and high-quality knowledge, skills and competences developed throughout lifelong learning. More specifically, they should improve the quality and efficiency of education and training, enhance creativity and innovation, and focus on learning outcomes in areas such as employability, active-citizenship and well-being. This is a tall order and, in order to achieve it, we need to consider how our work fits into the larger picture. Drawing on the outcomes of two recent European studies, Rebecca will discuss how we can avoid potential pitfalls and develop an action plan that will drive the development of analytics that enhance both learning and teaching.
Reflecting on what has happened to Higher Education in 2020 in Australia, in responding to the pandemic, may seem a bit premature to some. But on the other hand, we need to learn these lessons quickly as there are no guarantees moving forward. Thankfully many of us have had reasonably robust technology enhanced learning environments to fall back onto. But let’s face it, this hasn’t always been elegant as it could be. So, reflecting on some of the things we have learned in 2020, it is worth distilling some thoughts as we move in to 2021, particularly around TEL and the funding environment for HE. Let's do a SWOT and see what others think too.

Learning — to some it is the sound of chalk on blackboards,
the search through stacks of scribbled notes, and backpacks
full of heavy textbooks. For others with a less traditional
lens, learning is the summoning of professors with a click
of a mouse, assignments no longer living on paper, but in a

changed considerably in recent years and we don’t expect it
to slow down anytime soon.
Because of the advancement of technology, institutions
are able to reach more students than ever with the help of
quality and accessible online courses. ‘eLearning’, ‘distance
education’, ‘blended learning’, ‘online campuses,’ and other
related programs have grown more prominent in higher
education institutions. According to NCES data, there were
5.5 million students enrolled in distance education courses at
degree-granting postsecondary institutions in fall of 2013.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
