This visit is designed to welcome groups with intellectual disabilities to the Hamilton Public Library.

3. Some libraries are
in their own
buildings.

4. Some libraries
share their building
with other
community
services.
In these special
buildings, I can
visit the library and
go swimming in the
same place!

5. In both types of buildings, I need to
know how to find the front door of
the library.

6. The front door
has the
Hamilton Public
Library sign
and a list of
the library’s
open hours.
When I walk
through this
door, I am in
the library.

7. Some places in the
library are often
quiet. Quiet places
include the
computer areas
and the areas near
the books.

8. Some places in the library are often
busy and noisy.
• Like the children’s area
•Like the Program area
•Like the DVD area
Even the quiet areas of the library
have busy and noisy times.

9. You are always welcome in the
library. You are welcome here
when it is quiet and you are
welcome here when it is busy and
noisy.

10. If I want to know
when the library
will be quiet or
noisy, I can ask a
staff person.
They wear a
library badge.

11. I need to know about the
washroom too.

12. There are three
types of
washrooms at the
library.
•Men’s
•Women’s
•Family

13. The Family
washroom isn’t just
for families though.
It has:
•One toilet
•Sink
•Handrail
•Lots of space

14. The library has all
sorts of interesting
things for me to
read, listen to, and
watch.

15. I can read books in
the library.
•Non-fiction
books are true
•Fiction books are
stories

16. I can also read magazines in the
library.

17. I can even borrow books and
magazines to read at home.

18. I can borrow
DVDs and Blu-rays
from the
library to watch at
home too.

19. I can borrow video
games from the
library to play at
home.

20. I can even borrow
music CDs and
audiobook CDs
from the library for
listening at home.

21. I can also use
the computer at
the library, but I
need to
remember to
bring my library
card!
