ACCELERATION
ACCELERATION
Acceleration is defined as the rate of change in velocity
of a moving object per unit of time. The change in
velocity can be achieved in three ways:
a.by increasing its speed while traveling in a straight
line;
b.by decreasing its speed while traveling in a straight
line; and
c.by changing its direction even while traveling at a
constant speed.
Formula:

where vf is the final velocity and vi is the initial
velocity.
The unit for acceleration is m/s2.
PROBLEM 1
A car travels at 90km/h. What is its
acceleration in 3 hours if it started
from rest?

How long will it take a driver to bring
a jeepney traveling at 50m/s to a
complete stop if its acceleration is
-0.005 m/s2 ?
PROBLEM 3
Michael is driving his sports car at
30 m/s when he sees a dog on the
road ahead. He slams on the breaks
and comes to stop in 3.0 seconds.
What was the acceleration of
Michael’s car?
PROBLEM 4
As a car comes to a stop, it slows
from 25 m/s in 2.8s. Find the
acceleration of the car.
PROBLEM 5
•A car starts from rest and
accelerates uniformly over a time of
5.21 seconds for a distance of 110 m.
Determine the acceleration of the
