Key Terms
Definition
College
Any staff member who holds the responsibility for supervising, coordinating, and managing the overall planning and implementation of the field experience-training course at the college level. This may include any of the following: Head of Department, Field Experience Unit or any other staff member in charge of such matters.
Faculty Member
A member of the teaching staff at the college who is assigned authority and responsibility of supervising and evaluating the training of the student.
Student
Any student that is eligible to apply for the field experience-training course.
Training Organization
Any institution that has been approved by the college to provide practical training to students in their field experience-training course.
Field Instructor
A representative working at the training organization who is responsible for supervising, training and evaluating the student throughout the training period.
The Training Unit
Refers to the structure defined by the College responsible for overseeing the training affairs and the implementation of the training plan.

Overview
Prior to commencing the assessments, your trainer/assessor will explain each assessment task and the terms and conditions relating to the submission of your assessment task. Please consult with your trainer/assessor if you are unsure of any questions. It is important that you understand and adhere to the terms and conditions, and address fully each assessment task.
Written work
Assessment tasks are used to measure your understanding and underpinning skills and knowledge of the overall unit of competency. When undertaking any written assessment tasks, please ensure that you address the following criteria:
· Address each question including any sub-points
· Demonstrate that you have researched the topic thoroughly
· Cover the topic in a logical, structured manner
· Your assessment tasks are well presented, well referenced and word processed
Active participation
It is a condition of enrolment that you actively participate in your studies. Active participation is completing all the assessment tasks on time.
Plagiarism
Plagiarism is taking and using someone else's thoughts, writings or inventions and representing them as your own. Plagiarism is a serious act and may result in a learner’s exclusion from a course. When you have any doubts about including the work of other authors in your assessment, please consult your trainer/assessor. The following list outlines some of the activities for which a learner can be accused of plagiarism:
· Presenting any work by another individual as one's own unintentionally
· Handing in assessments markedly similar to or copied from another learner
· Presenting the work of another individual or group as their own work
· Handing in assessments without the adequate acknowledgement of sources used, including assessments taken totally or in part from the internet.

Student Appeals Procedure
1. BRIDGWATER COLLEGE
ACADEMIC APPEALS
STAGE 1 - Student and Lecturer/Assessor
We aim to treat all students equitably in our handling of the assessment process. If you feel
that you do not agree with the assessment decision made by your lecturer/assessor, you must
explain the reasons for to the lecturer/assessor concerned, as soon as possible (preferably as
soon as you have received the assessment decision) and within three working days of receipt
of the assessment.
The lecturer/assessor will consider your case and provide an immediate response (within three
working days). This will involve a clear explanation of the assessment decision following a re-evaluation
of the evidence.
If you agree with the decision then an appeal need not proceed.
If you do not agree with the decision reached then you need to state that you want to take the
appeal to Stage 2 by informing your lecturer/assessor within 3 working days and complete the
Stage 2 Candidate Appeal Form.
STAGE 2 - Student/Lecturer/Programme Manager/Lead IV
The lecturer/assessor must forward all assessment records and the Stage 2 Appeal Form to
the Programme Manager/Lead Internal Verifier within 24 hours of the appeal being stated.
The Programme Manager/Lead Internal Verifier will reconsider the assessment decision by
evaluating the evidence and records; the lecturer’s rationale for the decision, the opinion of an
independent second assessor. The Programme Manager will complete Section 2 of the
Appeal Form and provide the candidate with the reconsidered decision within 5 working days
of receiving the appeal.
STAGE 3 - Appeals Panel
If you are not satisfied with the outcome it may be necessary for the Appeal to be brought
before a small Panel, consisting of at least one senior member of staff not previously involved.
The decision of the Appeals Panel is final.
The External Verifier cannot become involved in the Appeals process except in an advisory
capacity.
