This document discusses the confusion that existed regarding terminology used for menstrual disorders in women. It summarizes the new guidelines developed by FIGO's Menstrual Disorders Working Group to redefine and reclassify menstrual disorders. The FIGO classification system called PALM-COEIN provides standardized terminology to improve communication, research, and education. It defines terms like abnormal uterine bleeding, heavy menstrual bleeding, and post-menstrual bleeding. The hope is this new universal classification of menstrual disorders will end the confusion that previously existed.
