4. SYNOPSIS
In this project report, I am supposed to design a light fixture. To design a light fixture I first have to study
about what actually a light fixture is. I also have studied about the various types of light fixtures and among
them I have chosen wall sconces to be designed. In the further pages, you will find how I have designed a
light fixture i.e. wall sconces by transforming a shape and using it in my design and also following the
elements and principles of design. The detailed drawing, orthographic projections, the assembling and the
rendered views are there in this project. Along with that the materials required and the type of light which
will be used in this fixture is also well defined.

5. INTRODUCTION-LIGHTING
Lighting or illumination is the deliberate use of light to achieve A
practical or aesthetic effect. Lighting includes the use of both
artificial light sources like lamps and light fixtures, as well as natural
illumination by capturing daylight. Day lighting (using windows,
skylights, or light shelves) is sometimes used as the main source of light
during daytime in buildings. This can save energy in place of using
artificial lighting, which represents A major component of energy
consumption in buildings. Proper lighting can enhance task
performance, improve the appearance of an area, or have positive
psychological effects on occupants.
Light is defined as the electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths
between 380 and 750 nm which is visible to the human eye.
Electromagnetic radiation, such as light, is generated by changes in
movement (vibration) of electrically charged particles, such as parts
of ‘heated’ molecules, or electrons in atoms (both processes play A
role in the glowing filament of incandescent lamps, whereas the latter
occurs in fluorescent lamps). Electromagnetic radiation extends from
Γ rays and x-rays through to radio waves and to the long radio waves.
This is often referred to as ‘the electromagnetic spectrum’ light is
indispensable to life on the planet and consequently affects humans
and other creatures alike. Notably there are important physical
effects through the interaction of light with our skin and our eyes
leading to the ‘warm’ (red light) and ‘cold’ (blue light) sensation as
well as the side effects through our accommodation to the periodic
changes each day and with the season which contribute to the
regulation of activity/rest cycles.

6. INTRODUCTION-LIGHT FIXTURE
A Light Fixture or Luminaire is an electrical device used to create
artificial light by use of an electric lamp. All light fixtures have a fixture
body and a light socket to hold the lamp and allow for its
replacement. Fixtures may also have a switch to control the light,
either attached to the lamp body or attached to the power cable.
Permanent light fixtures, such as dining room chandeliers, may use a
wall switch to turn them on and off; as such, these fixtures may have
no switch on the fixture itself. Fixtures require an electrical
connection to a power source, typically AC mains power, but also
battery power for camping or emergency lights. Permanent lighting
fixtures may be directly wired. Moveable lamps have a plug and cord
so that they can be plugged into a wall socket. Light fixtures may also
have other features, such as reflectors for directing the light,
an aperture (with or without a lens), an outer shell or housing for lamp
alignment and protection, an electrical ballast or power supply, and
a shade to diffuse the light or direct it towards a workspace (e.g., a
desk lamp). A light fixture can be categorized broadly into three
categories-

• Special purpose
• Fixed

7. DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
In This Project I Am Supposed To Design A Light Fixture.
I Have Chosen Wall Sconces To Be Designed. To
Design The Light Fixture I Have Taken Inspiration From
The Shape Rectangle With Curved Edges And When I
Sliced It From The Center Vertically The Shape I Get Is
Being Used As My Design.
