A2 Evaluation - Question 2
1.
2. ALBUM COVER AND MUSIC VIDEO
The combination of our album cover and music video is effective as there is clear synergy between the two.
Both share bright vibrant colours, seen in the sunset featured in the album cover and the lights in the funfair
scenes of the music video. This connotes feelings of excitement and eagerness. The landscape depicted in
the album cover is a city centre, linking to the music video as the performance sections are filmed against a
graffitied wall – something commonly found in busy cities. The location where the photo was taken was
around the same area where parts of our music video were filmed – directly linking the two. Indie themes are
presented throughout our music video, such as the ‘band of brothers’ vibe presented between the actors we
got to play the artist and the costume choices we made (plaid shirts, skinny jeans, denim jackets). Our album
cover is also very typical of the genre, showing a landscape which is distorted in some way. This is also found
in Tame Impala’s album art for ‘Innerspeaker’. Both our music video and album cover share typical indie
qualities, making them work effectively together.
3. MAGAZINE ADVERT AND MUSIC VIDEO
We use the same image we used for our album cover in our magazine advert, meaning that again the
ideas of vibrancy and light are followed through to our magazine advert. The synergy between locations
and landscapes are also emulated in the magazine advert. We included the line ‘Includes Girls Girls
Girls, On Our Way and Goldrushed’ to directly link the title shown at the beginning of our music video and
the lyrics of the song we used to the magazine advert. We used the same font (Perpetua Titling MT) In
our magazine advert, album cover and music video to relate them all to each other and keep the flow.
Having one side of the advert being lighter with vibrant colour and the other being dark, with the circular
shape in the middle suggests the passing of time from morning to night, something you also see in our
music video as the narrative lasts over a day, from morning to night. This combination is effective as
they are subtly similar, making our work appear more professional.
